And once Moore claimed 'concussion' in rnd 24 last year for a collision he contributed to and got Kozzie suspended for 3 weeks they, are capable of anything. Could they have not raised it with Adelaide and kept it in house? It depends on what the offended player wanted. If he wanted it taken further then Coll must honour that. If the player was circumspect about it Coll had a choice. We will never know. Once it was brought to Adelaide's attention (Rankine did not self report) they had no choice but to take it to AFL. The fallout from doing otherwise would be grim on a number of fronts.

Just read the AFL is still considering the penalty and Adelaide will have time to mount an appeal. I assume an appeal will be to the AFL Tribunal. If so, there is no hope of a reduced penalty if Gleeson is Chair when keeping any penalty will help Coll final/flag chances. I wouldn't be surprised if Adelaide were to test a penalty in a court of law. AFL would hate that. It could be why there is a delay in announcing a penalty.

Collingwood raised it with Adelaide the day after the game. Adelaide reported it to AFL Integrity unit. The cynic in me wonders whether a club with a history of anti-social behaviours acted in their own interests to reduce Adelaide's chances of a flag and of beating Coll again in the finals. I in no way condone Rankine's comments.

Think I'll wait and see how things pan out.

I also would like to think we can provide a better environment and I think we are much better positioned than North. But unfortunately I see some off-field similarities that may hinder an inexperienced, or even an experienced coach. But hopefully, an experienced coach would have the time and a good chance of 'managing upwards'.

I know zip about Daly so can't comment as a coach. Just like to say that Fagan succeeded isn't an indication Daly might/will. Daly could turn out to be like his predecessor in the Lions GM FD who then became a senior coach, David Noble.

How much further backwards can we go: consecutive bottom 5 finishes !!! Surely, people aren't thinking further backwards!

A possible 5 goal loss hardly fills me with any confidence nor gives me any joy. Nor does the 3 goal loss given our score fest at the end.

If that is correct one wonders where his allegiance lies. Not sure what Jobe brings to the panel or whether he has any experience in selection panels, candidate assessment etc Plenty of other more successful ex players to choose from. Jordan Lewis for one. He has had a couple of similar gigs and knows first hand what makes a successful coach.

imv we won't ever know if the sacking was a mistake. And, the results/success of the next coach are independent of the past. The next coach will be hamstrung for at least the first season because of soft cap limiting assistant coaching/FD changes and contracts limiting list management decisions. And how would his success be measured. Finals Reversing this trend. Win more close games. Scoring efficiency Play 4 quarters. etc I am quietly confident we can make finals next year even tho finals are getting harder; this year 15 wins are needed. imv the critical thing is reversing the trend so winning 13 games and a % greater than 100 will be a success for the new coach. Regardless, it doesn't say anything about sacking Goodwin being a mistake nor does it say Goodwin could or could not have achieved the same results. Time to move on.

Not sure straight sets exit is enough to not renew a contract just two years after a premiership but we may need to agree to disagree on that point. But OK, let's say the Board delayed renewal into 2024. Goodwin had introduced the 'transition' game plan with which we had reasonable results: at round 11 we were 7/4 sitting 4th with a healthy 116.9% heading for finals. Couldn't ask for more than that. To not have renewed his contract by this point would have been very irresponsible. No one could have predicted the downward spiral in the second half of the year.

Regardless of Goodwin's results since the contract renewal or results by his successor there is no way the renewal was a mistake. It was renewed in August '23 after Premiership, 2nd and 4th results. It would expire in '24. There is no way a sane Board would allow that coach to enter 2024 without an ongoing contract. There was no basis to not renew it. Also, in his 2022 contract he left money on the table to not blow the covid soft cap or have to reduce FD staff. The latest contract gave that money back to him, hence the $1m payout. That contract was thoroughly deserved and people who lament the $1m payout could reflect on the circumstances. Given the results at August '23 it could have been tempting to renew for 3 or more years. That the Board renewed it in two year chunks is very responsible.

By saying the sacking was unexpected and there was no indication the Board presentation was for his job is Goodwin writing his own narrative. Ditto, the only reason given was needing a 'fresh voice'. He knows there were other contributing factors some raised briefly in last night's AFL360.
