Posters have been whining about wet slippery conditions making all sorts of excuses for a pathetic effort. It was a warm night typical (24 or 25 deg) of Melbourne or Sydney in March with a 15-20k breeze blowing across the ground & bone dry. Not wet or slippery but great football conditions. We fumbled & slipped from the get go mainly due to our ineptness & Swans pressure not the conditions.

IT WAS BONE DRY, PERFECT FOOTBALL CONDITIONS, WITH A NICE BREEZE BLOWING ACROSS THE GROUND & MUCH COOLER THAN MELBOURNE'S LAST MONTH. I WAS IN THE BRADMAN STAND & PUT ON A JUMPER AT HALF TIME
-
I was at the ground. It was bone dry & little humidity.
-
Lacks any desperation. His ruck work at boundaries is non competitive & cost 2 goals.
-
The great irony in all this is that Maynard's father & brother played for Melbourne & Brayden grew up as a Melbourne supporter. And lots of Demonlanders were keen on us recruiting him when it was time for contract renewal.

Duncan Wright vs Brayden Maynard. Similarities?
Cranky Franky replied to Demon17's topic in Melbourne Demons
Some comments about the incident are getting very silly. Maynards actions were reckless & similar to Cripps & Rioli in recent times who both managed to get off due to "technicalities". It was nothing remotely like the Wright/ Somerville incident. The fault rests totally with the AFL & the way the rules were written and interpreted. -

Not looking good. Every year he has some injury issues. Maybe the body is not up to it.

Fully agree. Stan Alves was Captain, Rep player, B&F. Absolute champion & I never saw him take a backward step. Why would someone denigrate one of our champions ?

Salem in the Casey 23 - I don't think so.

Sam Van Rooyen in for Ben Brown on LTI?

Demonland posts are getting dumb & dumber. First a Tim English wild goose chase then this rubbish. Some posters should get a life. -
The BBB posts feels like an endless repeat of Groundhog Day. Every few weeks someone moans about why he didn't retire then someone responds about you have to honour contracts & finally it concludes with the merits of his time at the Dees & value for money.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Friday 26th January, 2024

He was a solid rather than spectacular & has lost yard of pace. Sometimes fails to take the first(and obvious) option & tries to be too cute. His underground handballs are a case in point. -

In other words you haven't the faintest idea so why suggest a mismanagement of running loads ? -

Look it's a sensitive issue and I'm really not having a go at you but it can imply or suggest that after a tragic event people should or should not behave in a particular way. Everyone is different & behaves in a different way after tragedy so whatever they do should not surprise anyone. -

I know people mean well & wish all the best for TM & family but please people try & understand that the last sentence above is totally unnecessary. -

Are you off your meds or maybe still at school ? Tom was actually our best key defender in some of our worst ever teams where the defence was constantly under pressure.- 169 replies

PRESEASON TRAINING: Friday 19th January 2024

You have a short memory. He was terrible in the first 7 or so games & should have been dropped, same in 2022. He got nicely looked after by the selectors. Luckily he came good in the second half of the year & was a solid contributor. -
Dear Romey I don't want to be condescending but please educate yourself about football a bit. Either you haven't watched a lot or else you haven't watched BB play much. He is totally inept in the ruck, embarrassing in fact.
-
Anyone thinking BBB can ruck is clearly clueless about AFL. Ben is totally inept as a ruckman - even Mitch Brown was more competent.
-
Nice speculation but before you write a 3 volume scenario of possible permutations & flow on effects maybe wait until Howes actually plays 1 senior game then maybe see if he will hold down a senior spot before we all get carried away. Howes has had big wraps on him for 2 seasons but so far has delivered SFA although he has been quiet unlucky with injuries. Even at Casey he has been solid rather than eye catching.

2023 Player Reviews: #2 Jacob van Rooyen
Cranky Franky replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
He got sucked in by Finlayson & cost us the Port A game & if he had played in the last final we may very well have won it so 2 stuff ups which cost us big time. I love his attack at the ball but those brain fades were disastrous & I know there is a fine line between controlled aggression & recklessness & Jacob needs to find that balance. -

Spot on. Keep the attack on the ball - lose the bain fades. -

Don't worry. Lots of Demonlanders either make it up, re write history to support dodgy claims or just assert stuff without any evidence 🤔.
