WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES
pantaloons replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
As far as I can gather, if Rivers and Geelong can get the paperwork together, he'll go there. It's not dependent on this deal. Unless of course Melbourne wanted to trade him. If we still want this Pedersen chap then we may need a better pick than 58 to satisfy North. But let's be honest, what would I know? I'm hardly going to spend my free time during the winter eagerly watching North games, and as such, couldn't pick Pedersen out of a lineup and that kind of makes my views on his abilities irrelevant. That said, pick 118 should do. -

Tim, I'm still hoping for quite the clean-out! It's up in the air at the moment because we don't know what compensation picks if any we'll be getting, whether any of our free agents will sign elsewhere, or whether we'll trade someone for a pick, but as it stands our live selections are 4, 58, 64 and 82. As I say, I was nit-picking, and would have liked to see a later pick coming back our way, but it's neither here nor there. We've paid overs, but I wouldn't give the deal back if it meant losing Dawes. He'll be an important part of our structure and leadership, and I'm more than happy to have him. It's also good because we've still got 10 days to work on other deals. Good times. -

Welcome to the MFC!! Good pickup for us. Just to nitpick, the late pick exchange is ordinary. The Pies now have 17, 18, 20, 39 and 45. They won't be using 76 so that could/should have been thrown in, but whatevs. We now have a centre half forward. -
I'd really prefer to see next year the system changed so that compensation is handed out only for the loss of very good players. I'll take it, but I don't think we deserve any compo this year for losing players we've left uncontracted for the sole reason that we felt they were surplus and we'd be happy to let them go in return for compensation. The Saints losing Goddard is a good example where a team should definitely be compensated, but when we start wondering what we'll get for Lynden Dunn, there is something wrong with the system.

If it is Dawes for 20 and Petterd, as others have noted, Ricky isn't a massive add-on. I would perhaps see if they'd be keen to add pick 76 or something along those lines. They'll have five picks before that and probably won't use it anyway. It could end up being our third or fourth live pick. -
Actually, there's a free agency period at the beginning of November for delisted players.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DAVID RODAN

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/magpies-not-sure-of-luring-hawk-young-20121013-27jqd.html "Wellingham's trade from the Magpies to West Coast in recent days and the pending departure of forward Chris Dawes - most likely to Melbourne - open the door for Young. Delisted Port Adelaide veteran David Rodan looks certain to be thrown a lifeline by a Melbourne-based club, with Melbourne and his former team Richmond both linked with him. The Demons also remain keen on North Melbourne's tall utility Cam Pedersen, with a deal likely some time next week. But that may not happen until the Demons organise a suitable trade for their prime target, Collingwood's Dawes." -

Dawes has to agree to any trade, hence why he went through the process of selecting his preferred destination. A trade scenario with a team other than Melbourne would only eventuate if Melbourne and Collingwood couldn't agree on a suitable trade and Dawes was open to going elsewhere. Probably about a 2% chance. -

It's been talked about for a couple of weeks, at least on here, that he'll be delisted. If we were keen, he'd come via delisted player free agency in November or the PSD. Zero trade value. -

Hawthorn would be cracking open the champagne with that deal. Young's a FA and compo for him surely wouldn't get close to 20. -
I don't know if this guy can coach yet, but with his GM skills he would be unbeatable in Madden.

That's more than a little over the top though. Pick 20 is more than fair. If someone trumps that offer a la Melbourne with Clark last year then we can reevaluate. He's marginally better than Ben Holland, who we got for pick 20. -

Since Dawes is over in the US, I'm hoping we see him on ESPN shortly announcing that he's taking his talents to the MCG. -

It's gone 10pm Pacific Time over in the US. I expect an answer from him in the next couple of hours or not at all today. -

He is a cripple. 28 games in 6 years is an absolute joke. If I wanted someone to play 4.67 games per season I'd bring Byron Pickett back to run through and injure four people a match. -

Is that code for Melbourne rolling on Jared Rivers? -

I choose not to, but it's a very good trade. Saints fare best getting a ruckman for a dime a dozen midfielder with 3-4 years left, but it's an excellent effort. Dawes hasn't indicated where he'd like to go though. If that Gysberts trade went down, there would be riots on Jolimont Terrace. -
Wants to prove Melbourne wrong. Good luck with that.
-
At the time I wouldn't ordinarily have taken pick 12, but Port Adelaide weren't interested so that severely hampered our ability to get the best deal. With that in mind, Adelaide's offer was fine.
-
This is not about me making up my mind. It's about Morton's trade value being so low that there's no point trading him. We'd be better off delisting him next year and not clogging our list with the slop we get in return for him if this thread is any indication of our return.
-
It's a lot of sticky tape.

The people have spoken. Less than 1% of people who have completed this poll believe we should trade pick 4. As for that proposed deal, GWS would take that and run to their lawyers to make sure they weren't going to be guilty of grand larceny.
