Might just be me, but if I was a freo fan I wouldn't be feeling optimistic of him staying after reading that.

Some interesting list management decisions coming up. We currently have 36 listed senior players and 6 "A" rookies. We can have any combination of 37 and 5 or 38 and 4. Not sure if there is a difference between Cat B vs Cat A rookies in terms of max length on that list. If it's the same rules then AMW can stay for a 3rd year while KFW can remain for a 2nd. D Smith is playing in his third year so a decision will have to be made there to promote or delist. K Turner has unfortunately been injured all year but perhaps may be given another year. In an ideal world, Jordon (reported that dees want to keep him earlier in the year) and Woewodin get new contracts. With D Turner to be promoted to the senior list in 2024, that means it's highly likely all of Dunstan, Melksham and Hibberd will be off the list. I think D Smith will probably not get a senior spot unfortunately. In this above scenario, that makes... Out: 3 x senior listed playersr, 1 x "Cat-A" rookie In: 1 x senior listed player (D turner) We would then have 34 senior listed players and 5 "cat-A" rookies As it stands, that would give us 2-3 senior spots for the national draft and 0-1 on rookie spots depending on how we choose to fill the list. Of course it gets complicated with potential trades of contracted players like Tomlinson, Harmes and Laurie while Jordon may yet leave as a free agent.

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition
Nascent replied to adonski's topic in Melbourne Demons
Still mad at Hawthorn for losing to Richmond. -
I have zero Intel sadly. Just trawl the footy forums like most here. @Chook in Perth is the poster to listen to but don't think they visit this site much these days. There are others here with seemingly good Intel as well but doubt much would get leaked re trade and draft targets just yet.

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition

Absolutely it could. Also discussion around North getting the ability to pre-list Sanders and Callinan. I think it will be one or the other. -
Perhaps a player or two might come in via trade?
-
Change it to West Coast giving back their future 2nd and it might be more reasonable.
-
I'm not advocating for extra assistance to North but nearly beating 2 very average teams isn't a convincing counter-argument for those that are. Eagles won a flag only 5 years ago. No chance they receive draft assistance.

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition

Ultimately it comes down to contract price, length and some unknown formula the afl uses that factors in age and god knows what else. Since those are secret, they can disguise draft assistance with a first round compensation pick quite easily. I will say that Frawley had played nearly twice the amount of games and earned himself an AA jacket. McKay is not the same quality and hard to see a team spending upwards of 800k per year on him. -
He's kicking was much improved in this game. Strikes me as someone that works hard at his footy. Surely we'll pick him up late or as a rookie.
-
I don't mind the idea but we have JvR now who is similar in that they're both slightly undersized, but have good athleticism and can crash a pack. The wild rumour of Oscar Allen that @adonski referenced would be perfect. Otherwise Naughton or a King twin are the established forwards I would go hard it. Wouldn't mind Todd Marshall either. Can't imagine any of them being available though.

Gentle reminder that Kozzie was drafted at pick 12 standing 171cm. Nick's had a far superior 2 years at junior level. If you want a mid, agreed he's probably not your guy. Outside of Reid though I'm not convinced we will find the star mid that you're after. McKercher and Sanders probably the best mids to follow, but hard to get a good gauge when they played against such weak state teams that primarily filled their midfield with bottom agers. My view is that players like Watson are infinitely harder to find.
-
I get it, but still think he needs to be in the conversation. If we end up with GCs pick a Watson, Duursma combo could be on the cards.
-
Pickett and Watson starting small forwards. If one or some of Chandler, Spargo or ANB miss out so be it.
-
This kid deserves his own thread now that the championship is done and we look to have a top 5-6 pick. 170cm small forward for Eastern Rangers, he kicked the most goals of the championships with 14 in 4 games. He is explosive, dual sided with excellent skills and has a good aerial presence as well. Jason Taylor said when drafting Kozzie that its hard to find genuine small forwards. This could be a golden opportunity to give us the most exciting and dangerous forward line in the league. Wouldn't surprise to see him a Roo after Reid and Walter have their names called out however.
-
Even better
-
I agree. We also beat them and the best team in the comp. Geelong think they're the danger... No. *Can someone please photoshop a mfc jumper on Walter white.

Where can you view the full list?
-
Roos are a real wildcard here. They could get draft assistance either through the pre-listing of Sanders and the massaging of McKays FA compensation if he leaves. McKay leaving could leave them with either picks 2 and 3, 2 and 11, or 2 and 19. (Compensation being immediately after first pick, mid-first round, end of 1st round) If they can pre-list Sanders and Callinan through draft assistance I can't see the AFL massaging any FA compo and will most likely net them an end of First round or 2nd round compensation pick. So pick 19 or pick 21. They have a lot of capital to play with here including a valuable future 1st which will appeal.
-
Whatever the case is, we have to get it perfectly right as there's not much wiggle room left before finals. A re-injury now would be catastrophic.
-
Agree with some concerns around Duursma, hoping for a strong end to the season because the talent is there but consistency is lacking. I think we shouldn't sleep on Watson. I'd have him in a heart beat and would make our forward half so much more dynamic.
-
Reid Watson Mckercher Curtain Duursma Sanders Caddy My preference is for Reid. But if we can somehow land 2 of the players underneath him then we are also laughing. Depending on how we view the development of Adams and D Turner, I could see O'Sullivan being on the hitlist as well. No doubt a bolter will come into first round calculations at some point. Looking at later picks. Archer Reid is a watch for me. 203cm forward that could compliment our list well. Would need to see some consistent performances in the back end of the u18 year with gippy but finished the championships ok for VC. If we want some more run out of the back half then Luamon Lual could be a good 2nd round option as well as Harry De Mattia. Midfield depth could have George Stevens as an option. Big bodied mid, not overly quick sure, but is probably one of the best kicks in the draft which would be a nice point of difference for us in the middle.
-
If you listen to the AAA video Barrett even says that crows should be in the finals and sitting 5th or even 4th. I'm convinced he lurks on here and enjoys trolling us.

Might be a trick of the camera but Jefferson looks like he's put a bit of weight on in his upper body in particular.
