Or 'Showtime' ha ha ... the horse ended up landing out first combined trifecta and we may look back in a few years (after cleaning out all the betting agencies!) as a reminder of where it all started. 'Ted' works of course. Nicknames are normally bestowed upon so we'll no doubt come up with something ... yours (Wadda) has just stuck hasn't it? The Zephyr race is a tricky one by the way ... a small field but trying to figure it out is not easy.

The Skip works and if you keep coming through with the goods (Showtime) it will be an apt nickname. I've got the easy bit going 2nd ... First & Third choices are tricky with regards to possibly taking a chance on a winner. I'll have an interest bet with the Zephyr race too ... time to study up. Maybe a First4 so I can include the Dan? 2-4-6-6?

As you and others are no doubt aware Wadda, I like my trifectas so was very happy with the return yesterday. The more the merrier I say and I like the idea of having multiple chances to win. The combined expertise works for me. There's a decent Group 2 sprint race at Doomben next Saturday that I've identified but I'm happy to go with another race if we want to continue the exercise. Sha Tin is my personal target next Sunday with 3 big Group 1 races (1200m, 1600m & 2000m) A number of the World's best horses are running around so that gets my attention. If we go again do we keep the same tipping order after our success yesterday? @Demon77 acting as 'The Skip' to finish off the bet worked. There's a nickname in the making!

And well done with 'Sprightly Lass' @binman Needed a win after so many misses ... Osborne Bulls will give us 2 from 4 if it salutes.

Yep .. a good start D77 The trifecta effectively paid about 3-1 for the full outlay and if Le Romain had have held on it probably would have paid a fair bit more. Full marks to the winner though - Trapeze Artist is some sort of horse. Good pick with 'Showtime' mate ... I can honestly say I wouldn't have included it if it was just me. The team wins first time up.

Seabrook wins for those who have followed the horse ... El Dorado Dreaming was a good thing beaten. Couldn't get a run for a long way in the straight and then flashed home.

I have boxed our first 3 and also had a go at the First4. I much prefer to bet on the Group 1 WFA races over the classic distances ... it's where my main interest lies with the thoroughbreds so I suppose that stands to reason. As an example, I haven't had a bet in the next race (The Champagne Stakes) for the above reason. Too hard

There's a few favourites going down D77 ... Nature Strip just got beaten by a bolter
  9. Macca replied to Toorak's post in a topic in Other Sports
So Far Sokool had every chance but never really threatened. Had no kick like it did at its last start.
  10. Macca replied to Toorak's post in a topic in Other Sports
It looked the winner at least twice ... and then did a Tom! As you said D77, there's plenty left for the afternoon

    So here are our 4 best bets (best available odds) ... Randwick Race 3 No.2 Dothraki $3.50 Randwick Race 5 No.4 So Far Sokool $4.80 Caulfield Race 7 No.11 Sprightly Lass $4.20 Randwick Race 9 No.7 Osborne Bulls $2.50 And our trifecta at Randwick Race 7 W/2/3 .... No.10 Trapeze Artist W/2/3 .... No.2 Brave Smash W/2/3 .... No.1 Le Romain 2/3 .......... No.8 Tom Melbourne 2/3 .......... No.11 Showtime 1, 2, 10 / 1, 2, 8, 10, 11 / 1, 2, 8, 10, 11 There some value there and best of luck to all!

Yep .. the pressure is on you D77 ha ha! But hey, some are at their best under pressure so fingers crossed. I actually reckon it's a good way to do it ... I like the fact that you've got 4 horses earmarked too. Of course, if our first 3 run in the first 3 then it will be all academic.

Doesn't look like we'll get much rain in Sydney so I'll commit to my win choice in our trifecta race (The All Aged Stakes - Randwick Race 7) I have to give Brave Smash another chance ... back to the 1400m which is somewhat ideal and the way they're saying the race will be run suits the horse as well. Drawn 5 which is not a bad barrier at the distance (at Randwick) So here's how the configuration sits so far (3 - 5 - 5) ... Win/2nd/3rd Trapeze Artist Win/2nd/3rd Brave Smash Win/2nd/3rd ???????????? 2nd/3rd ??????????? 2nd/3rd ??????????? So it's over to @binman for the other winner and then @Demon77 for the other 2 horses that can get into the placegetters. Good luck!

Best bet ... Randwick Race 5 No.4 So Far Sokool (4.50) ... was extremely impressive at Bendigo a couple of Saturday's ago running a very slick time over the 1400m - streeted its rivals. This race isn't an overly strong one and the horse has drawn a good gate (4) ... the 1.80 on offer for the place might be the safer bet in a multi but I genuinely believe the horse can win.
  15. Macca replied to Toorak's post in a topic in Other Sports
The trainer of Trapeze Artist (Gerald Ryan) was quoted as saying that the horse is ideally suited to the 1400m and could run even further up to a mile and maybe even 2000m. Could be some sort of horse if that's true but at the same time the horse has been touted as being worth up to $40Million at stud. There are a few horses in the All Aged Stakes that can run great races and on their day, they'd be hard to catch. Trapeze is currently $2.40 for the win and the next best is around $9.50 and more. That seems to be too big a gap.

I've been told by a few who are right into Ice Hockey that the secret is to only watch the puck and not the players or the play. It's hard to do at first but after a while you'll see the puck more. Saving that, technology might come to the rescue that will make the puck stand out.

That is an excellent find nb ... I've listened to 4 of the 8 episodes so far and it is first rate and very enlightening.

I believe @Wadda We Sing has already picked Trapeze Artist to win so you & I need to come up with a winner each binman. As you mentioned, there are a number of possible winners and the 1400m can be tricky at Randwick.

And the weight difference put people off the 2 class horses in the race ... but as David Hayes has often said, over the sprint distances, the topweight class horses can carry the weight and still run blistering times and beat the lightweights. The big pools too make a big difference ... I like to have a go at the overseas Group 1's occasionally but the dividends for Trifectas aren't great. Barrier draw tomorrow for the All Aged. All important too as there's a quick 300 metre dash to the first turn over the 1400m at Randwick.

Ha! And boxing the top 3 has just become an option ... punters lament therefore eliminated! I'm reminded of the Newmarket trifecta which I got ... my 3 on top finished 1, 2 & 3 and it paid well over $200. 3 top horses too - Redkirk Warrior, Brave Smash & Merchant Navy. I'm still surprised that it paid so well.

They are running around for a bit of money at Caulfield on Saturday ... 2 x 300k, 3 x 250k & 2 x 150k what with the Inglis/Vobis qualified horses. Some good fields and 'Nature Strip' is back running along with 'Cliff's Edge'. In other news RSN had former jockey Wayne Treloar on this morning for a fascinating interview ... for those who are interested you can listen here

Ok then D77... and I'm happy for you to have the 5th pick seeing you've missed out on picking a winner. That seems fair to me. I might just wait a bit though ... there's rain forecast for Friday & Saturday up there. I won't be too late though as I don't want to hold up the works. Wadda's choice Trapeze Artist can win from anywhere in it's current form and it won the Expressway Stakes on a soft5 back in early February. I suggested 3 - 6 - 6 because of the potential size of the field and therefore the possibility of a decent dividend. But the field might drop down to 13 or 14. 3 - 5 - 5 works as well and we're sorted after 5 picks aren't we? Your good self, binman & myself pick a winner whilst D77 has 2 goes at the placegetters. If we as individuals choose to include another horse we can do so on our own volition. So 3 - 5 - 5 it is yeah? Full dividend cost $36 which is more palatable and workable.
  23. Macca replied to Toorak's post in a topic in Other Sports
3 - 6 - 6 would mean 6 picks in total. It will probably make more sense in the morning for all of us - my brain is hurting with all these numbers flying around. A trifecta 'nightmare' is on the cards. And you guessed it - Tom salutes!
  24. Macca replied to Toorak's post in a topic in Other Sports
I reckon the person who picks 4th should get the 5th pick ... we need all contributing D77. Your expertise is needed. Think of it this way, the first 3 come up with 3 possible winners and then the onus goes onto the 4th contributor. A bit like the 'Skip' in foursomes. Except that person then has the 5th pick as well. And then the 6th pick is up for grabs - maybe a consensus vote?
  25. Macca replied to Toorak's post in a topic in Other Sports
In Group 1 races a horse like Trapeze Artist just has to be included but come race time we might be barracking against it such is the nature of the punt. It's all about the money but if Trapeze salutes we'd be hoping for some value for the 2nd & 3rd placegetters. I've seen many trifectas pay very well with the clear favourite winning. As for Tom, he'll almost certainly be running on especially if the jockey can find a good run for the horse. It gets into the finish a lot of times (against good company too)
