  1. No you're not wrong MD ... a troll from post #1 but 'it' has been here before It gets by for a time because those who haven't seen it before get caught up in the bs I genuinely feel sorry for the bloke though. A sad individual who must lead a very lonely life. Needs help and medication He'll hop into his phone box soon enough

Best Bet Flemington Saturday R2 No.1 Star of Eden 6.00/2.00 Handy sort of double at around 30-1 or more (with a boost) Promises to be a top day at both Morphettville & Doomben with value about, right throughout each program Excellent program at Rosehill too along with the Andrew Ramsden feature @ Flemington (the winner gets automatically included in the Melbourne Cup) Good luck punters!

Group 1 replays from the last 2 weekends (including the overseas G1's)
  4. If the Norm Smith was awarded retrospectively then RDB might have won at least 3 and Percy Beames 3 as well Most know about the exploits of Ron Barassi but Beames was named as our best player in the 3 flags of '39 to '41. As a rover he kicked 6 goals in one GF, 4 goals in another and 2 goals in the 3rd win (whilst dominating as an onballer)

And 'Zaaki' looks like another more than decent import too ... won the Hollindale in fine style beating a crack field Doomben Cup next up you'd imagine Gorg. Definitely one to follow after Saturday's performance And Explosive Jack won well (SA Derby) despite being 3 wide without cover for a lot of the race. A real good horse but because it's a colt, we may not see the horse for too much longer. Worth a mint at stud already Been getting a few winners overseas of late ... that Racing Post tipster knows his stuff! 3 winners last night thank you very much!

Feels a bit too good to be true? Personally, I can't wait to see what our overall W/L record against the better sides ends up at (Port, Lions, Dogs, Swans & Eagles to come) Of course we've beaten the Cats & Tigers so there's 2 notches on the belt It's certainly unfamiliar territory (being on top undefeated) so maybe that explains the subdued reaction Our reaction would almost certainly be different if a large percentage were expecting a big start to the season At a guess I reckon 85%+ of the supporters were apprehensive about our chances this year. Finals a real possibility but 16+ wins? We need to finish off with 9 & 6 record to get to 16 wins. And that type of record to finish off the season proper doesn't seem all that difficult from where we sit right now
  10. For the majority of the game (60%-65%?) we were 2nd to the ball (or played from behind) so thus the opposition were able to win the ball too easily whilst we gave away numerous free kicks. At times we looked quite clumsy So we were lazy whilst the other mob came to play. A let down from the great win against the Tigers but we took too long to get going I reckon if we were playing against a better team we would have played better In the end our class shone out but we certainly made hard work of it Better to blast the other team out of the water and then spend the rest of the match working on different plans of attack ... that's what the great teams do Bank the points but learn from it

    Jack Miller!!!
  12. Jonesy needs to win back that 'yard of pace' that he's lost. Age waits for no one but with the help of lots of sprint training he might just get that yard back He'll never be as nippy as he once was (and that was his strength) but he could get a bit of nip back through sheer hard work His skills are fine and his endurance is ok as well. It's the pace of the game I truly hope he gets his form back and gets back into the team If not, it's been a damn fine career. 300 games is some sort of achievement

Re the Cats What goes around comes around. They got a bit of luck against the Lions so suck it up Cat fans. Taking their foot off the pedal last night is the real reason they didn't win (Scott said as much in his presser) Mind you, in that earlier game the Lions didn't turn up in the first half so they only have themselves to blame (as well) Again, that's the 'real' reason why the Lions didn't win that particular game But as DZ said on the previous page on this thread, the initial call was almost certainly touched off the boot so the 'actual' ruling in the end achieved the same end result - no mark As for the HTB at the end ... we see plenty of ball-ups in that scenario so again, no biggie. Didn't look like he had prior anyway. Another grey area that carries with it divided opinions Fair result all round in my view
  14. 9 free-to-air in the first 13 games Saints, Cats, Hawks, Tigers, Swans, Blues, Bulldogs, Lions & Pies Cable or streaming ... Freo, GWS, North & Crows Was predicting 8 of 13 but that was a hopeful wish. And as you stated t_u, the 2nd half of the season promises more of the same ... if we can maintain our form Anyway, 9 from 13 free-to-air games would definitely be a record in my view. If it had have happened before it would be a standout memory A fantastic result all round

That's where the value is Gorg. We've been up all season but have started slowly a few times and the ground & conditions might bring the 2 teams closer together (somewhat) It's in Tassie as well and we might not have things our own way We might see a margin around the 25 - 35 point area. $1.26 for 40+ doesn't appeal unless there's a value pick elsewhere to boost up the multi odds I've settled on a same game multi and got about 37-1 all up. So only need the small outlay to win well
  17. Macca replied to Macca's post in a topic in Other Sports
North might bring their best in Tassie and we might be slightly off our game Demons 1-39 is paying $3.25 ... a multi with 3 other legs and 20-1 could be had. Or a same game multi?

The Sydney carnival is done & dusted but the Group racing continues on in S.A. & QLD as well as the big Group 1's from overseas. The Kentucky Derby will be run this weekend along with the 2000 Guineas from Newmarket My preference are '2-race' doubles in the overseas Group 1's unless my fancied runner is at each-way odds The links to the overseas racing will take you to the Racing Post site where the regular tipster there is quite good - full odds & tips appear the day before the race (i.e. Friday's if the racing is on the Saturday) Morphettville - G1 Robert Sangster Stakes Morphettville - G1 Australasian Oaks Eagle Farm - G2 Queensland Guineas Eagle Farm - G2 Victory Stakes Churchill Downs - G1 Kentucky Derby Churchill Downs - G1 Turf Classic Stakes Newmarket - G1 2000 Guineas Newmarket - G1 1000 Guineas

  21. Is there a chance that someone can post up that Max Gawn onslaught through the square virtuoso? As it was happening I was muttering out loud 'What the hell is going on?!!!' A bloke built like Max isn't supposed to play like that. It was impossibly brilliant I'm not sure I've ever seen a greater team-lifting effort. You couldn't help but be inspired if you were a fellow player Amongst numerous other highlights that was my standout moment. Set the standard and we were never going to lose from that moment
  22. Awesome!!

Yeah, you too Gorg along with anyone else here having a dabble! Got 'Ahead Start' & 'Mr Tee Kay' up early so a good start at least! And if all goes well tonight as well (as well as Richmond having a bit of an off night) we might just salute. The line is a bit skinny but it's nice to know that the bookies are giving us a bit of kudos!

So we can put a full stop on the whole idea ... 3 days later it's done & dusted (3 Days of the Condor football style ... replace the battle for the oil with a Super League and all it's up front money) The other factor was that there were so many other stories attached to the main story. Millions of fans traumatised only to be put at ease as if it never happened And even though the guts of the story lasted less than 3 days, there will be books written about the super-mini saga. A lot happened in a very short space of time Juventus refuse to concede or give up on the idea ... they are carrying €385m of debt as of June 30 2020 but they do have large revenues. But that revenue is also dependant on Champions League income and they are currently lying 4th on the Serie A table (2pts ahead of Napoli & 4 points ahead of Lazio) Nervous times ahead for Juve So that large injection of cash bankrolled by JP Morgan in the failed SL venture would have been more than handy Real Madrid are carrying a debt of €354m, Barca €488m, United £455m & Spurs £604m Of course, that debt can be managed with large income streams but because of Covid, the debts have increased a great deal due to the loss of income from the crowds that can't attend the games The big clubs have been hit hard where as the smaller clubs that are more dependant on Broadcast money are getting by as the broadcast money has kept flowing
  25. Macca replied to 45HG's post in a topic in Other Sports
lol Could easily have happened that way GV although I was imagining that the SL players would have been allowed to play in World Cups but maybe not the domestic or Champions League for the Super League teams (or players) So being a theatre-watcher with big time soccer I was half-hoping the league got going just to see whether it could work or not ... plus, West Ham could have actually been able to win something! (the ulterior motive) The SL games could have been taken all over the world including here in Oz 18 regular season games with crossover finals would mean that the teams would only meet a maximum of 3 times. And each game would have been a big match-up. Allowing for derbies here's how I would have broken up the 12 teams (season 1 with 4 other 'big' teams to be added to each group) Group A: Spurs, Gunners, Chelsea, Real, Atletico, Barca Group B: United, City, Reds, Milan, Inter, Juve Or, all the teams from England could be in the same group with all the Italian & Spanish teams in the other group But a season with the SL clubs only playing a minimum of 18 games is way less than half the amount of games that the teams play now However, each of the teams could have played another 10 games against each team in the opposite group (bringing the regular season up to 28 games) Again, all potential big match-ups. The issue with dead rubbers in the last part of the season would still remain though. Despite the strength of the teams there would still be 2 wooden-spooners. But they (the SL hierarchy) were almost certainly banking on the teams playing in the domestic leagues as well (settled through the courts?) ... another 38 games plus all the cups But would the SL clubs play full strength teams in the domestic leagues? ... far too many engagements for that to happen The whole concept was full of holes
