Not quite. He's not qualified to be a free agent based on a service, if Melbourne were to delist him then yes he would become a free agent and go wherever he wants. If Melbourne have offered him a contract which it seems most likely seen as he wasn't delisted, then a trade must be completed for him to move. If no trade can be completed then he can nominate for either the national or pre-season draft where anyone can pick him with their pick.

There's also the issue with overlaps for grounds, using the Round 23 fixture from this year there are 2 games scheduled at both the MCG and Etihad. No chance of moving either Richmond or Melbourne to play at some other venue to avoid a clash.

It would be nice if the AFL players retained the same number for VFL it would make identifying players a lot easier. Anything greater than 60 should then be allocated to VFL players.
-
I also imagine majority of the 6k in attendance are more likely to be Adelaide supporters rather than Melbourne, a lot of Adelaide fans in the Alice. I'd rather have 2 extra games in Melbourne even if it is at Marvel/Etihad, gives local supporters a chance to attend that doesn't set you back in excess of $500 in airfares.

So we played 24 players tonight, obviously we have to reduce that down to 22. Think Frost and Wagner will be first out, then T Mac for Pedersen, Lewis for Maynard, then Harmes is probably in the side for one of Fristch/Bugg or Hannan. Going to assume that Viney will miss round 1 but it's a good problem to have!

James, he's got the premiership experience which has done wonders for us in the past.

Classic derail, thread titled Josh Kelly but there's discussions of at least 6 other players in the same thread.
-
He's going into his 4th season, restricted free agency is 6 or 7 years.
-
He's not a free agent so you have to trade. Either that or he walks out on GWS and you hope he makes through to you in the preseason draft which is no chance.

If their cards are being marked then why are they getting contracts? People have said Garland is on his way out, yet he got a 2 or 3 year contract extension at the end of last year. Dunn is contracted next season, I have no issue with someone who is coming out of contact spending the rest of their time at Casey but if you have another year to run its absolutely ridiculous.

This is highly underrated, Hunter virtually played CHB for the whole season and kicked 29 goals.

I hope he didn't get that scoop from Mission!

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER

Really impressed with the kid, he doesn't play like a draftee with 0 AFL games to his name. He attacks the ball, hits packs, chases, tackles even managed a couple of sausage rolls yesterday. He's not slow either, we've all heard the type about Petracca... if he shows the same as what Oliver has shown in his 3 NAB games then we've got ourselves a couple of gems. -

It works just like the AFL Draft, picks starting from the bottom placed clubs to the top. The benefit of finishing low is that if an out of contract player wants to move then you can avoid having to trade for them if your confident that no other team will pick them up first. Basically Carlton can get anyone that is out of contract and offer nothing to a players current club if a player wants to go to Carlton. -

I don't agree with with that Matt Jones wasn't a liability but I get what you're trying to say. At no stage this year did Matt Jones as an individual cost us a game, when we lost and he played poorly he usually had 8-14 mates with him that played poorly. -

Zaharakis' best is probably better than anyone on our list, but for what he offers he would cost more than what he's worth. Personally I find him overrated, he plays 4-5 excellent games a year and the rest you wouldn't even notice that he played -

He might of but then Mission injured him, he'll be right to go in 4 - 6 weeks. -
The problem with Riley is he far to often goes for these charging rugby style tackles, yes they're going to hurt the opposition, but they don't prevent the player from getting rid of the footy as they're arms are not pinned.

Cross is worth another year whether he plays seniors or not, him being a backup/playing coach at Casey would be valuable to any new mids we draft this year.
