  1. Tony Jones said on Ch.9 that there is no guarantee that Daniher will coach beyond the Essendon game on Friday. I hope for the club's sake that he does.
  2. When one door closes, another one opens. This is our chance to make a real change at the MFC, wipe the slate clean and start again. I'm sad to see Daniher go, because he has always been a good servant of this club, but I'm so excited by the prospect of starting fresh. This is our chance to do something big. I just hope the club really makes the most of this opportunity.
  3. Anyone in favour of Demonland taking over selection till the end of the season? I can see Newton pretty much captaining the side for 10 rounds if that was the case!
  4. To be fair, we'll have new facilitles soon, but yes I agree that if anything stops Voss from coaching us, it would be the fact that we're not well set-up. Still, I hope Melbourne is on the phone to him right now, finding out his plans and getting in early. They will no doubt interview him, but what happens after that is anyone's guess. At the very least, I hope he becomes an assistant (he might not get any better offers).
  5. There is always a risk of that happening, but IMO Davey loves the club more (I'm sure he loves Whelan more ) If anyone is going to lure him away, it would be his brother, not Neale. At the end of the day, Daniher's favourites are mostly senior players, who by the time Daniher is ready to coach again, will most likely be finished anyways.
  6. Nobody here has any inside knowledge into who will coach us next year. I think Ratten would be in with a chance... from what I heard anyways
  7. No he shouldn't. What's the alternative here? One of our assistants takes over for 10 rounds, and the outcome is still the same. Let's face it, none of our assistants are cut out to be senior coaches, and nobody we want to coach next year is ready to step up in 2 days. From now until the end of the year, this club will pretty much be coached by the players anyways. We'll get to see who REALLY wants to play for the jumper and who puts in the effort. For his part, I hope Daniher plays the kids, and gives everyone an opportunity to prove to whoever coaches us next year, whether or not they deserve to be at the club. Daniher is doing the honorable thing by not leaving us stuck without a coach until the end of the season. He should stay and do his best and let the club concentrate on finding a good long-term replacement for him. We've got a good head-start which is the main thing.
  8. I am in shock, as I certainly didn't expect it to happen so quick. I heard nothing all day as I was at work, but I am not at all surprised that Daniher did the dignified and honorable thing. This is truly the end of an era, and everyone should feel a touch of sadness that someone who has given their all for 10 years is leaving. I would like to thank him, as despite everything, he has done his absolute best for this club, and right till the end has put this club first. His time has most certainly come and I'm thrilled that the club will part ways on good terms. This has been one horrible season, but 2008 begins today as far as I'm concerned.
  9. Not to mention that Collingwood, who are coming along VERY nicely this year, have played a fair amount of first gamers and youngsters throughout the season. I don't always agree that playing the youngsters is giving up or tanking. If by playing them you are replacing average players who don't bring a whole lot to the side, apart from experience, than there is nothing to say that you're any less of a chance to win games.
  10. 7 females! When did this happen?
  11. Meh, get Mickrocks to do it... I'm too lazy to be adding up numbers! And what exactly was said on SEN?? Are we famous?!
  12. Argh... All my repressed memories are flooding back. Thanks for that! <_<
  13. Anyone thinking he might call it quits? I know he has another year left on his contract, but if he's out for the rest of the season, he might think twice about continuing. Would be terribly sad for someone who nearly broke the consecutive-matches record to be forced out of the game with injury. Sad and ironic. For anyone who is interested: A hernia is a protrusion of a tissue, structure, or part of an organ through the muscular tissue or the membrane by which it is normally contained. A hernia may be likened to a failure in the sidewall of a tire. The tire's inner tube behaves like the organ and the sidewall like the body cavity wall providing the restraint. A weakness in the sidewall allows a bulge to develop, which can become a split, allowing the inner tube to protrude, and leading to the eventual failure of the tire. *ouch*
  14. I'll take a guess.... Bartram, Moloney or Rivers?
  15. But he won't be available in two years time. We need to take him now, or we'll miss the boat (yet again). Look, there are definite negatives with Voss, as with any other candidate. He lacks coaching experience, true, but he can learn on the job. I'm happy for him to make mistakes along the way if his path ultimately leads to success. I don't think there is an issue with him playing alongside most of our players, if anything, he'll be very aware of their style, what they do and don't do on the field etc... He won't have any sort of emotional attachment to them, or to the club. He'll coach purely with his head, not his heart. He'll demand respect because, as you've said, he's fresh out of the game, and nearly everyone on our list has played against him and/or admired him while growing up. He won't let anyone take a backwards step, he'll recognise who can and can't lead the team, and nobody would look him in the eye if we get smashed. I don't want a nice, cuddly coach if the only thing they bring to the table is experience. Experience hasn't helped Daniher, it hasn't helped Pagan either. There is a lot to be said for innovation, for taking a risk, for doing things your own way. Voss wants to coach and feels he's ready. He doesn't strike me as the sort of guy who would pump himself up for no reason. Unlike the MFC, he walks the walk, not just talks the talk. Take a chance, bring him on. What's the worse thing that could happen? We finish 15th? Oh hang on...
  16. Not sure that Carlton can afford to pay out Dennis, especially when, considering how crap they are actually are, they haven't performed too badly this year.
  17. If I was one of those people who threatened to not renew their membership if things are not done to my liking, I would threaten that Chris Connolly at Melbourne means I won't be buying a membership. Unfortunately, we're not in a position to hold the club to financial ultimatums, but we're not in a position to get Connolly either. I'd rather keep Daniher, if that's the option we have.
  18. Fashion merchandising/ product development. My god we get off topic easily... Sorry to hijack Newton's cause!
  19. Not yet... mine start on Friday! I've got a couple more exams to go too, but as can you see, I'm studying real hard at the moment Michael Newton intrigues me far more than the Australian Standards of fire hazard labelling for children's nightwear and such.
  20. It's refering to your age now. We've done this sort of poll before, but the results will be very different now. For one, there is already 2 females posting here. That's one more than last time! <_<
  21. I'm busy at uni (don't let the fact that I'm posting instead of listening in class fool you )... you do it! <_< In all seriousness, I can't access emails on uni computers. I'll formulate the letter if someone else is happy to send it.
  22. Mail it to Sam's Mailbag and they may pick it up from there?
  23. Selection of Newton might come down to Neita's fitness. I'd love to see them both play alongside Robbo, Bate and Sylvia, but I don't think we'll go that way.
  24. I hope they give Moloney, Rivers and Bartram the rest of the year off. What's the point in rushing them back, given their injury problems, when the year is already gone? None of them are fighting to stay at the club, as when fit, they are quite clearly in our best 22.
  25. I voted: Another footy site, but it's a two-fold story. I used to read Bigfooty, and the place disgusted me. I then heard about Demonland through a friend who posted both on Bigfooty and here (old forum), and the rest is history. I've been reading/posting/moderating this site for what feels like a lifetime. Thank god we lost our post count when we moved to the new setup, or I would probably be up to about 20,000 posts by now!
