Why Jayden Hunt must be the sub
Hunt, subs...this thread really should be called the Hunt for Red and Blue September. I'm also concerned that the French might get even more upset if they think the decision as to an appropriate sub has in any way lead to a breakdown in French-Australian relations.

I've got nothing. And somehow, I suspect I've drafted a clue. And it's not helping me!

Earthquake...a bad omen
This thread was started with the intention of being a light-hearted distraction. Can I suggest if you want to discuss the merits or otherwise of Melbourne's lockdowns, protests or the media that you take that debate elsewhere? In the meantime, the rest of us will enjoy the leadup to the most significant game in MFC history since September 1964.

Why Jayden Hunt must be the sub
Apologies if this has been mentioned in another thread, but on 7 News last night, there was an unexplained and unsubstantiated comment which seemed to suggest that Hibberd might not play. I think it was Tom Browne, but there was no explanation as to why that comment was said. Did he mean that Hibberd might be in doubt with injury? Or that Hibberd might just be unlucky and replaced with Hunt? Or was he just making stuff up? Who knows.

Flying the flag
I gave all my old MFC scarves away years ago. If only I'd thought ahead more...

Brayshaw, with Hunt going to the wing.

Why Jayden Hunt must be the sub
Decisions like this are where coaches earn their money. The hardest part won't be the choice made, but telling those on the fringe who miss out. Players like Melksham, J Smith, Hunt and Jordon are presumably all in contention for the medi-sub spot (assuming the same 22 as played last week are selected). Three will be disappointed and will need to be told in an empathetic way why they've missed out.

Demonstone's GF WTF Ultimate Cranium Strainium
Not only did none of them play in a winning Melbourne Premiership team, but after this weekend, that answer will still be correct.

I like the desperate search for attention by including six separate hashtags hoping that perhaps one might capture someone else's attention.

Earthquake...a bad omen
Anyone living in Victoria likely felt an earthquake about 15 minutes ago. Apparently 5.6 on the Richter scale with its epicentre 33 km south of Mt Buller. But that last fact is not the omen. Perhaps others may also recall that on Brownlow Medal night 2000, Melbourne also had a minor earth tremor. And how did that week work out?

Using the GF to raise money for good causes
I've also decided that if the Bulldogs get more free kicks than us I shall make a donation of $10 for every free kick differential to Seeing Eye Dogs Australia. And in the unlikely event we win the free kick count, I shall donate $10 per differential to the Lost Dogs Home North Melbourne.

Flying the flag
This photo was in a tweet just posted by the club. It's apparently Margaret River. Have to say that it does look photoshopped. They woudn't do that would they? (For example, what's that short white line under the wheel?)

"Jurrah’s mixed feelings ahead of Dees’ grand final" - Age article
That's not how I remember it. I was given the impression that he was fully supported by the club after he left. Was that a smokescreen put up by the club or am I remembering it wrongly?

The thing you’re most tired of hearing
Well, the good news is that win or lose, "57 years since our last flag" will be heard no more. Although 58 years is going to wear thin very quickly.

I think people from the left think that "cancel culture" is a right wing term and people from the right believe it's left wing terminology. I'm actually sorry I used it, not because of the discussion in this thread which I think is worthwhile, but because I think it's a faddish term which will eventually cease common usage. And for that everyone, whether left, right or from the extreme centre, will eventually be grateful.

GF Umpires
Is "umparanoia" a word? If so, it's to be found here.

GF Umpires
This is not about the umpires per se, but what's with the line "Foxfooty.com.au understands Stevic will officiate..." after having explicitly stated in the previous paragraph that Stevic has been appointed? Very dodgy journalism...but I guess that's the norm these days.

There is a need to be very careful here. None of us will ever know the true story. Was it self-defence? Was it protection of property and not racially based? Did it even happen as described? There are always risks with a cancel culture approach, especially when the facts have been lost or, conversely, exaggerated by the effluxion of time.

The thing you’re most tired of hearing
I've now got an image in my mind that's going to be hard to remove of Hugh Laurie prancing around with a teddy bear he calls 'Rosebud'. That's my workday ruined.

In which case I'll donate again after we win in 2022, too.

Range Rover. And the other thing I'm most tired of hearing? Facile special comments.
