I can remember David Schwarz used to play that way, towards the end of his playing days anyway. Four games, two very very good two very very terrible, my demons !!
-
I like it and I am not religious or a RC reject. But yes I feel our pain !

I have been asking myself the same question since 1966, once I was old enough to go to game by myself. Pity i missed watching from 55-64, bummer... cannot see myself changing now ! Go Dees

I watched on a very small screen. I understand that we lost and many here are critical of the players. Well I must say I don't think it was their problem, It was wet and we picked the wrong style of play for the night. The failure was from the Coaching side, the Selectors, the Football Department and anyone who did not think to look at the weather report in the paper or on your phone. We all have the rain radar app ! and the weather apps !! And picking 7 changes, no wonder we played average football. They should have been rotated a few games ago, not all at once. Its not whether they are AFL or VFL standard, they are what we have. But the management of these players and the older guys like Jones and Jetta, and even TMac, its abysmal. The strategy and direction of this group or who ever is charged with doing that work is where the problem lies. We have the talent we have the fitness, We don't have the FOOTBALL SMARTS, I guess that's where or what the learnings are. Need a freshen up for next couple of weeks. Any way not as upset as last week, but we still left the intensity and effort, FAR TOO LATE.

A lot of changes, good, but would it not have been better to rotate some of these players 3 rounds ago !! Seems like deckchairs on the Titanic doing it all at once, !

Question for anybody We are playing at Cazaly's stadium again, does that mean we stayed up in Cairns ? or did we fly back down then up again. How much did that cost compared to staying up there Does anyone know or even care anymore ?
-
If what you say is true, and I do not dispute it. then there is a clear responsibility on the football department and selectors to get the side fit, mentally right, energised, and ready to play. And not to play against a side that have had far longer Time to relax and prepare in place. Arguments should have been had with the AFL over this totally unfair or even playing field. out coached and out thought. Again. let alone playing a quarter and not scoring a goal!
-
Joeboy I can often find reason in your analysis, I can even reason against you. but tonight Joeboy. can only agree
-
If. They can pretend to Coach and the players pretend to care and play. I can pretend to care about the MFC. I think Goodwin has taken the team as far as he is capable. Thank you

Well good night children.....

Another quarter without a goal, how many more before Goody quits ?
-
It would be totally embarrassing beyond what I could stand if we made Finals and played like this !!
-
Noticed this thought he must have been off the ground then he was standing outside a scrum watching
-
Blimey I hate watching on a iphone screen !! at least i see it i suppose Go Dees

Just this totally agree

Well they were Collingwood highlights, so I would really hope so. Was watching myself and thinking where is our come back, havnt seen any of our late goals. not surprising, the pies played well. so it seems

6. May 5. Petracca 4. Langdon (great either end of the ground) 3. Salem (composed game) 2. Gawn (back line intercept marks) 1. Viney (for his tag on Steele) The whole back line played well, OMac, Lever, Hibberd, Rivers, even Jones. I also thought that Spargo, Melky, Brown and Weid, all had important touches or moments. Pickett will be fantastic, creates uncertainty for the opposition. That last half of football was the most intense and strong willed from Melbourne that I can remember. Not greatly skilled perhaps but what a game, and we won a close one.... Go Dees

Ten minutes of carp football. Says it all every week it seems

We did lose most of the day, but IF in the third we had kicked two goals and managed to stop two of the dogs, we would be talking totally differently, FFS its a 4 quarter game even if we are only playing 16 minutes....

Watching on a very small screen, What appeared to me was that the backs did a competent job, the problem seemed to be that the ball came out of our i50 or from the centre with relative ease, therefore getting inside their scoring area quickly or accurately. Sometimes both. Against the pies, our attack seemed to get to the contest, just in time, and win most of the time. Against the dogs, it just did not happen, we got to the contest late. And they were well spread across the ground seemingly without a demon close by. I will read this and other threads to see what more competent observers think of our game yesterday. I can't organise my sock drawer and if you saw my business desk you would wonder how I managed my work for last 37 years, I wonder sometimes. The game style against Collingwood was great, the opposite yesterday, What went wrong and how do we fix it, not to blame anyone just how do we fix it. Repercussions can wait till December. Go Dees.

Wanted to wait a while, calm down then vent. just some points, I did think we could beat Footscray today, if we played like we did against Collingwood, but not to be... I do not think Max would have raised a win, so it was wise to rest him. Although I think St.Kilda will be harder to beat. They usually pummel us ! So we can beat the bottom two sides easily, even a depleted Pieside, but not with today's game plan and effort. We were playing very poorly but still in front at half time, If Fritz, Melky, and Kossy had kicKed straight... The third quarter was as bad as I can remember, For 186 I was heading OS, so missed it. but in that 3rd we were witches hats at training, was it like that. and our coaches did didley squat ! the game was effectively over after that. We still squared the last, almost. I do think Kossy will be a very great player, but now he is ineffective and needs to learn his craft a little bit better, he is too rushed or something. Our backs did OK, given the amount of times the ball was coming down. There was little or no pressure from our half forwards or centre line. There are days the ball just does not bounce your way and today we did not get one bounce like that. Perhaps we did not run hard enough. Bontempelli, not a bad player at all, but who was his opponent, how many times did he get a second possession or goal after giving off a pass or handball. getting it back and the dogs end up scoring. Hells Bells if I can see that it must be bloody obvious . I do think the dogs are a very good side, top 4 perhaps, and the Saints are not bad either. I think we sit 8 or 9 maybe 10th. But that's not a pass mark for our coaching staff, it was their job to prepare our players and in the 3rd they failed dismally. Still, we are still alive, see what next week brings, I hope its better than today.

why kick it to them!!!!

No goals in the third, we cannot kick it to our players and we are being well beaten, a very poor day, Will we review this result ??
