  1. I expect highly disciplined behaviour from all players from the moment the pre-season starts till the final siren on the final game blows. The rest is their time. I find the 24/7 gossip driven media scrutiny is offensive and detrimental to young men having experiences young men need to have. Added to that the self righteous critiques of people's character that starts from an assumption of guilt etc... and it all gets ugly quickly.
  2. Hence the Zoolander reference... i.e. self obsessed and stupid.
  3. Afternoon! Sweet so he would have been able to get in a nice 4 hour cat nap and no one would have been the wiser (if his buddy had missed the pole). I'd agree with you if it were pre-season or season proper, but this is their junk time, the Irish game is an ALF media circus/joke so for the 8 weeks between end of season and start of pre-season Col can do as he likes... I'm not a fan of having a team of Sculliesque wowsers, obscessing about their blood sugar levels and judging the social activities of others in their down time.
  4. Colin has always reminded me of a character from Zoolander. Young men on holidays drink and let their hair down with their mates. Pious media and the zealots at AFL house need to get a life. This story is actually "Colin Sylvia, having realised he'd had too much to drink, asked a mate to drive him home. Unfortunately they hit a pole. Despite waiting at the scene for 1/2 hour for the police to arrive, Colin decided it was prudent to get to bed in preparation for his training session later in the day. The AFL commended him on not driving while drunk and the MFC stated that Colin was free to live it up during his holidays but that come 31 October stringent team rules would be in place...".
  5. Hate to say it but your analysis is not statistically valid because the data set is so small. In addition, the conclusion you draw from your analysis simplifies the possible reasons and ignores those reasons that don't support your conclusion. For example, I could just as easily conclude, from your analysis, that Darwin games do deplete teams but not sufficiently to have top teams lose to lesser teams. To get a better sense of the impact of playing in Darwin you need more data and to view it against what would have happened anyway... Interesting stuff be good to have a close look at situations where the two teams were evenly matched (i.e. ladder position) and see if the team that had just played in Darwin broke even or not.
  6. Unfortunately Tom appeared to fill the deep need MFC for have for a true champion, and like women scorned* we despise his betrayal more for the hopes we had invested in him. So I figure this Monty Python clip best describes Tom in my eyes " ".*apologies for the lite misogyny
  7. Any club with uncontracted players who have not been bent over by GWS already, will endlessly discuss their immanent deflowering. Richmond will have Malthouse lurking to take over if Hardwick stumbles ( or even if he doesn't)... Collingwood may find the magic of the past two seasons deserts them... West Coast back to the pack as the older players struggle. Brissies woes takes Voss to the edge. Blues to realise last year was as high as this group will take them and start to eat themselves.
  8. I'd include Watts and Dunn in the midfield group to add size and grunt when appropriate. I'd even consider if he could get his engine right.
  9. I'd be happy to see Tapscott return to HFF and use his long precise kicking to Clark 30m out directly in front. Move Green into the half back as UB suggested...
  10. I think we should off load the players you mentioned, then hold our hand till next year. This would give the coach time to meet and work with the team for a year, introduce his game plan and re-assess with a strong hand (3 first round picks) in draft 2012.
  11. No chance (if ever there was one) on Fev with recruiting Clark. Simply don't need him. Gotta focus on the midfield now.
  12. I think Mark Neeld has a game plan that he's wanting to implement at Melbourne and with this recruit he's moved a big piece into place. Essentially Mitch Clarke at FF offers the following: - the midfield a quick get out of pressure kick deep into the forward line (moloney will love this). - the big lead up option to the 50 m (aka Cloak and Daws) - provides our small forwards with a roving target at the feet of Clark - free up Watts and Jurrah with 2nd and 3rd tall defender on them. - allows Watts to play higher (in the midfield) when required - allows Jurrah and Petterd to find space and avoid tight contested pack marks, also gives him a good set of shoulders to climb... - allows us to develop Gawn, Lucas, and Fitz at Casey properly without having to play them early. I'm sure there is more... Big get
  13. Half forwards are midfielders these days, and Petterd, Howe, Watts all play that roles (of midfielder) well. Jurrah need to get stronger in his tackling or most likely play as an outside /winger type when not deep in the forward line. I'd like to see a true small forward in that forward line, i.e. Wonna or Davey. I'd also expect to see Sylvia and Tapscott playing HFF at times as well. Potent if we can get them all firing.
  14. It seems trade week, like our season, will be a roller coaster of optimism punctuated with depressing doses of disappointment. That said, we'll dust our selves off and have a crack at the next opportunity, and with another three days to go we are still a chance to achieve a good result in this trade week...
  15. I think that the mini-draft next year will be more likely to reap better results for our compo picks as the main draft, being stronger and uncompromised, will have few clubs prepared to trade away a top ten pick for a U 17 yr old... hence our compos will have greater currency. MN and TH have been reading Micks new book...
  16. Don't mind that we keep our powder dry and play our compo picks when it suits us in the future. Move on and up.
  17. With likely priority picks in 2012 to Port GWS are not able to guarantee they would get first pick in 2012.
  18. The pick that the Cats traded to Gold Coast FC is the mid- round one selection that can be used in 2012.
  19. Given that GC got their compo pick from the CAts (for Ablett deal) doesn't that mean the GC's first round compo occurs after the Cats (i.e. not GC or GWS) and given that the Cats are likely to finish higher than MFC for the next few years, that our Compo pick would be worth more??
  20. I suspect GWS would have doubts about priming the MFC to have O'Meara, Crouch and Viney arriving in 2013... Their (and their AFL paymasters) entire build and business plan is premised on GWS being near a premiership in 5 years when the next TV rights are up for grabs (same for GC) and facing a MFC midfield with those three additions (in addition to what we have) would cause them to pause and spread the picks elsewhere.
  21. With the 500k salary we'd have paid Scully we should be in a good position to "overpay" a quality 22-24 yr old mid or large forward who wants to come home to Melbourne... get them to do a Luke Ball and demand their club trade with Melb (us offering pick 12) or they will nominate for the draft with only MFC able to cover their contract needs.
  22. I thought Jack T rocked. Gutsy move starting the show solo and the boy can dance... nice one.
  23. If Jack V can attack and extract the ball like Kerr was doing against the Blues we'll be a far better team for it.
