In the Pre-Season Draft the clubs dont use the draft picks but are allowed to contract any uncontracted player provided they are willing to pay the player the requested contract terms. The 1st pick though will be Richmond followed by Carlton then Melbourne and so on.

I think that the greatest player to wear 30 would disagree with your assessment. John Beckwith was captain/premiership player and coach of the meblourne football club was by far a better player.
