If we pick up Byrnes and Knights as FAs, that would probably cancel out losing Riv and Beamer as FAs. ie. no second round picks for Riv and Beamer. That's roughly the way the AFLs FA points system works.
I can't help but wonder why Port are considering trading Butcher. He was seen as the future of their forward line less than 12 mths ago. I'm thinking perhaps his body is shot somehow. No doubt, our medicos will do their due diligence and test him out first. We don't have a great track record with managing chronically injured players. If not, Hogan sounds like a good option.
Other than that, I really like your thinking DrD.

I dont know about joining Geelong, they dont look top 4 standard anymore
With Rivers, MacIntosh and perhaps Caddy, they look pretty formidable to me.

On a side note, I was very interested to hear Craig talking about how they got someone from the military to sit in the box with them and analyse how the hierarchy works, and whether it's an organised system. Very good outside the box thinking from the Dees.
Hope he's good a ducking under flying headsets, telephones, pens and the odd punch directed at the plaster wall. All events that happen in coaching boxes.
Perhaps he'd like a job as the midfield coach.........

Morton for Albett?
No deal. Not attractive enuf. ABLETT and H Bennell would clinch the deal.

I feel comfortable with Neeld's call on this guy. He would know him backwards, having worked closely with him at the Pies. I'd also like to think that he's chasing Wellingham hard.

OP not comparing apples with apples. Simple as that.
We are what we are, that is a struggling list, poorly developed with limited FD resources (until this year). It will take more than just half a season to turn around the good ship MFC.

Does anyone else believe he has given us a few tips under the table for this upcoming draft seeing as how important this year of picking up guns is for us?
If he does give us a few tips under the table, then he not the sort of person we would want put in charge of our recruitment. That would be incredibly unprofessional and a breach of his current contract. Would you trust him not to do the same to us in due course?
No, Taylor is better than that and will join us when his contract expires or before if released from the Pies earlier.

It's not about the girl, have another glance at who the player is and the caption
Really, I would never have cottoned on! Who is the bloke again?

Here's one for all the people who want Chappy at our club next year.... (hint, check the caption)
She looks like a short Allison Janney (CJ in The West Wing)

Go Hawks send this Sydney mob back where they belong without the cup.
I am Brown and Gold for the next 6 days
You will be OD when WYL chucks you in one of the Werribee ponds!

Our midfield has been rubbish ever since he left.
Apologies to Jonesy.
Awwwwww........ what about Beamer last year? 19 Chas votes? What could have been if he slimmed down and bought in as Neeld demanded, eh?.......
(awaiting a barrage of abusive posts....)
Sam Mitchell over Thompson and Cotchin for mine.

Interesting that the AFL have talked about drug and alcohol testing coaches and staff in light of the Crossica admission. Wonder if this might make the Duck change his mind?

Did like hearing Darcy calling Shoenmaker "so dumb!" for reversing the free to Hawthorn.

Any relation to Paul?
It'll be a long hot summer for the Dees...

Interesting that in one week's time, the city of Sydney could have the top side and the bottom side in the comp.

Like him loathe him, agree, disagree. he had one asset that I did like. He wasn't bound to any master. He said what he thought, right or wrong. That's rare.
Of course, it would help if he did a bit of research to back up his claims. Otherwise, he looks equally as foolish as Mifsud. You would think if you heard what he did from Mifsud that he'd make a few phone calls (particularly to the Melbourne indigenous players) before reporting the story. That should not be rare.

Fierce AFL critic Grant Thomas to walk away from footy
Thomas wants to focus on business interests, the story claims.
Also mentions the clash between he and Mifsud when GT reported that Neeld treated indigenous players differently. Mifsud supposedly told him the (false) information in confidence.

I rate him in the same class as Tom Scully.
So he's done sweet FA in his two years at GC except cause a lot of stress?
Only kiddin'

Port have had quite a few major issues and events that could also see it put in the too hard basket, which many in the media industry (FWIW) have put us in. While not parallel, there are current similarities with Port to MFC of the last 12-18 mths.
Low on cash
Low membership
No coach and assistants on thin ice
Struggling to keep star players (but Boak re-signed)
Death of someone within the club
Low on ladder
Add the AFL taking over their licence from the SA State comp.
Port have not yet had the type of scrutiny that Neeld received this year, or events out of the blue, such as LJs court case or the Energy Watch debacle. However, my point is that these things add up to destabalise a club significantly and high quality coaches, players and administrators may be very reluctant to join up.

I think good assistants who see themselves as 'career' coaches are far more discerning nowadays. They know that no matter how good they think they are, that an awful 2-3 years at a struggling, poor club can effectively kill your career.

Does not help our Viney 2nd round cause at all.....
GC would be after Carltons first rounder.
If they get it they will bid for Viney to replace Caddy and bump up the pick they get from Carlton.
But isn't F/S bidding completed before the player trading period even begins?

Good lord, if Sheeds can get another gig, then ND certainly can at half the age.

Growing up, I just thought this was normal and that Melbourne was one of the best-supported clubs.
You've been living in a dream, unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately). I went through primary and sec school being the only one wearing Dees colors. I fear for my daughter.
