  1. I have to ask, you are saying that we are going to give up ND Pick 3 for MD Pick 2. Does that mean that to get the MD Pick 1, the asking price will be greater than ND Pick 3? If so, that means the only team that stands a chance will be the GC with thie ND Pick 2.

If that were to happen, GWS will have pick 1, 2 & 3 in the ND.

Are you deliberately fcuking with my head?

I reckon that's a shoe in. With some sort of confidential agreement on JV in the 2nd round. GWS happy, GC happy, MFC happy.

Three current players into the red and blue next year:

    D PEARCE

    A CORNELIUS

    J RUSSELL

Why? Because they represent best available for our needs that actually are prepared to come to the Dees. The big name RFAs or FAs seem to be recommitting or looking for teams within a 'window'.

Felix, we're you talking about current players or young draftees as well?

  2. Will finish top 5 in the Bluey (not that there is considerable competition for top 5)

Played 22 games this year, should not be on the outer.

Would stabilise the back line to have him alongside Chip, TMc, Watts, Strauss, Nico and hopefully Garland and a speedy HBF with good foot skills. Our back line has been a strength for the last few years until Riv and Garland went fwd when Clark went down and we had no other alternatives.

Would like to see him signed for 2. Plenty of others should go in the clean out before him.

That is, unless he want to go as a RFA.......

  3. I hope that Rivers and Garland move back to where they belong - the back half. Our defence looked rather under manned when they were forward of center. But in order to do this, we will need (at least) another forward...

Actually, I'd like to see our back half stocks settled again, with Chip, Riv, Judy, TMcD, Strauss, Nico and another hard running HBF with good foot skills. Defence has been one of our few strengths going back over the last 3 years. chip and TMcD looking very lonely in your OP.

  4. Hardnut the counts at 4 we are required to delist 3 players. This is hardly a mass exodus at this point.

You would think that Bate, Dunn, Bennell, Joel Mac, Bartram, Gys, Martin, Morton and perhaps Rivers And Davey might also be in the mix to get pushed, want out or be traded..... regardless of value or contract status.

Not saying that they should stay, but that's A LOT of players. And we gotta replace them with someone (preferably with experience) who want to come here.

No point putting Joe Blow from Manangatang reserves on the list just to fill a spot. We do have to fill the numbers with quality, or it will be much more than Neeld's career collapsing.

*queue reply post claiming Joe Blow would be better and put him at CHF*

  5. The fact is at the moment we only have perhaps six players that are up to it. These are Clark, Jones, Howe, Sylvia, Grimes and Howe. None of them will be in newspaper top 50s at the end of the season. Another two or three guys (Blease, Trengove possibly Watts might make it). So that means we need to find at least 13 AFL standard players. There is a long way to go!

    James Frawley says hi.

  6. Yeah, in charge of list management. Nothing to do with recruiting. Not sure what your point is here.......

TH manages the players list, he worked alongside BP to help oversee the ins and outs of players to the club. He sits in on all the recruiting meetings and contributed to the list strategies under BP and Bailey. He's about the last remaining of the significant contributors during that time, is my point.

  7. Interesting thread.

I think there may be a variation to the two types of MFC players: players who are unfit and have no tank.

This player can have skills and/or attack on the ball, but make a mess of it due to exhaustion.

Gys, Blease (early), and Martin have shown to be lacking in fitness and struggle as a result.

Obviously fittness can be worked on, but may take 2-3 preseasons to get up to standard.

  8. For the record, rating NicNat higher does not mean that we got the call wrong, which is what you asked in your poll. Whether we made the right call on draft day has to be judged on many factors, only one of which is the relative ability of the two players. I maintain that we made the right call for the club, and even if Watts is never going to be another Buddy Franklin, he is going to be a valuable player.

I'm sorry RMax. Reason and logic are not permitted on this thread. Mods, issue a warning to this poster please! Not enough ridiculous content.

  9. Forgot to add Couch and Magner.. they fit the bracket!

For the time being. Can't say they do much more than try hard and put themselves on the line (which, of course, is admirable). They are not particularly skilled enough for the longer term. Poor disposal and questionable decision-makers.

Do believe the others mentioned show some early promise.

  10. No, I'm talking about the attitudes of preciousness of elitism, that was born out of the time.

Harry Hopman never allowed that comfort to infect his hard edged winning attitudes & when it showed itself (arrogance) in his charges he'd quickly wipe it out by giving them the dirty jobs like scrubbing the toilet floors. etc.

To me Norm Smith was the same as best as I can remember him from the TV.

The Army washes all this individualism out of the training soldiers psyche, To turn them into a reliable team.

I wonder if the MCC Northern stand are largely a collective of Comfortable Individuals who infect with comfort & security our young players & wash away the dirt the Grit & the fire in the Belly.

Who in the Northern Stand would you follow thru a burning building, or Follow into a gunfight in a War?

It's like the hardened boxer who has enjoyed his success so much,,, he has his house, has his car, has his family, but has lost the fire in the Belly to go on.

And if he does he will likely get Hurt.

Because the 'Focus', that comes from the 'HUNGER', that comes from the desire to be the best, has been Quenched.

    MEDIC! MEDIC!!!

  11. Gotta say it DL, you are really stretching a long bow to compare all of those sports. And what does the MCG have to do with the discussion? Do you mean MCC?

I'll tell you what, I'll agree that all MFCs problems are a result of what happened 50 years ago (and cricket and tennis, if you like. How bout lawn bowls as well?) if you'll agree that Neeld and the coaching/fitness guys could not care less for the last 50 years (maybe with exception of last 18 mths or so) and are solely focussed on change now and in the future?

That's what I care about, not Checker Hughes. With no disrespect to Checker.

  12. As I said it is relevant because it's the culture of the club that softens everything that comes into it's comfort zone.

Most people who come in fall into the comfortable security trap of the MCC/MFC.

It has been since it's inception, & as I said it stopped with Checker Hughes, (who renamed the club as one tool to help change the pastel colors) And checker taught Smith who eventually got to carry on that torch.

    Until has was Got.

Our best footy since was in the late 80's - early 90's,,, after Barassi/Jordan + Barry Richardson, Dick Seddon, Ray Manley, etc rebuilt the side/list into a battle hardened one thru the kids coming in. + Sean & Jimma, Bails, Balls, Yeates, etc, etc. Prodigy's of Jordan & Barass.

That hardened team withered after another 5 Yrs or so.

We still had a good list thru the 90's, BUT, where oh where did that intensity & professional hardness go? We should have blasted the opposition away.

But we IMO were comfortable in Hollywood boulevard.

Beaming you up now, dee-luded. Stop trying to resist! 2012 is calling.

  13. Since when does the number of posts affect the legitimacy of the point being made ?

Nothing, as such. Unless, however, that poster goes mysteriously quiet after putting the cats amongst the pigeons. Sounds to me like a journo sniffing about for baseless info that he can then write as truth. He'll get plenty of that on Land, at the moment.
