So I’m finally watching a bit of the replay on my lunch break (thank you Covid for this WFH win!).
And one thing I really love is how well we play as a team. I watched a few teams on the weekend yelling and abusing teammates for bad kicks which I thought was so poor.
In contrast we support one another, we group together and chat and make decisions on the field. We don’t attack, we don’t point fingers and we don’t let anything phase us. I think that is a sign of a really good team that trusts the process and trusts one another.
For example third quarter, we just took the lead back. ANB gets BB and Fritta together for a chat to point our positioning. This is a guy who last year was on the trash pile and he’s now setting up forward structures. Just wonderful to watch.

Interesting. I thought it would be one of the team rules of every club not to do that. Years ago Richo was suspended by his own club for a match because he did that.

    His head offends me.
Have hated him ever since he said we were soft.

To be fair to Port they were running on fumes with the amount of injuries they had. I think the conditions suited Brisbane better, plus home crowd, and to me they were very disappointing.
Poor skills. Looked lethargic for a good portion of the game. I know Zorko was injured but their midfield looked slow. I wasn’t blown away, and this is from someone who thought the Lions would be our biggest threat this year.
Port are Port. They do a lot and then they fall apart like a cheap suit in finals. See also Geelong.

Zorko (getting old), Lyons and Berry isn't an A grade midfield.

Petty and Lever come back for Salem and Tomlinson, suspect Smith will get a run playing Salems role over the next month.

IMHO Smith can't play the Salem role ... He did really well v Doggins, but his disposal and decision making is not particularly good, unlike Salem who is elite.

Ding-dong battle between Oscar and Tom in the vein of Carey/Jakovich, Lockett/Silvagni, Flower/Greig or Hart/Knights. Should crack 90,000.

Oscar did well.  Good on him .... seems like a nice guy. I hope he has a good season*.

    *excluding the match/es against MFC.

That's my take, although it was his 3rd game. He worked hard but didn't show enough to say that he belongs at AFL level. May get some more games as a sub, but can't see who he replaces in the starting 22. He's put himself ahead of Chandler in the pecking order.

Agree with you mo64. I can't say that I share the enthusiasm of other posters who rated his game highly. But, obviously, I hope he succeeds.

I agree that Kade Chandler looks a long way short of the required standard.

  6. May will obviously line up on Naughton. But Petty is the best match up.

Not sure who will line up on English when he is on the forward line. He doesn't pose much of a threat (famous last words!) so perhaps Lever who usually gets one of the weaker forwards, or Smith who can play on talls.

they will never be a real club; they'll always be a franchise

they may have success in the future but that doesn't change that they're an invention of head office who are primarily there to increase the tv / streaming rights coverage value and - theoretically - expand the code into northern markets

interesting to see that he's actually only signed for an additional two years; the original contract that was reported as mooted was for five more years

These extensions are invariably only for 2 years ... (Trac was an exception.) It keeps the club 'happy' but keeps the player's options open.

Can’t understand the lack of love for Langdon. He is not rated by any “experts”. He is such a vitual cog for us.

He was heading towards AA, but wasn't quite as good after missing a match with concussion. The back half of the season wasn't as good. He's one of my favourite players.

    What a legend.

he always played hard cricket wise and played even harder off field.

if you play that fine line with taking stuff and crazy diets it puts you at risk but I reckon it’s better to have a life lived to the fullest than a life hardly lived

Better to die on your feet than live on your knees?

Burst on the cricketing field like a fire cracker, built and sustained his skill until his figures speak for themselves. Inspired so many. Off field he was always outrageous but honest forthright and acknowledged his weaknesses.

He did live life to its fullest and while short did fill it with more than most do over a longer period.

    Leaves a legends legacy.

condolences to those closest to him.

Indeed .... he lived 5 lifetimes (with all their ups and downs) in his 52 years.
