Melbourne has moved on from Roos
nutbean replied to red and blue forever's topic in Melbourne Demons
We are mid season - no appointment will be made until seasons end. So much still to be done - financial package, possible concession picks, board members to be found, president to be found, admin positions to be filled. Until seasons end no-one is ruled in or out - including Roos. What happens if Worsfold is not recontracted. What happens if Hawthorn go out in straight sets and they move Clarkson on (unlikely) - you dont make coaching appointments before seasons end so therefore you dont make decisions until that time either. Let all the cards unfold and until then all this is fluff and nonsense. we dont move on...we dont move off...we don't discount anyone who we think we might want. -
ADC - you are the king of the conspiracy theory - for once I dont mind where your conspiracy is headed !

I think i could handle a few dull boring wins ( like 300 of them)
-
I find the reporting and commentary by supposed journalist so amusing. 1/ there is a coach in place with under half a season to run 2/ other potential coaches are still under contract 3/ the committee has just been formed 4/ the board and admin has not been finalised The calls for Roos to make a decision..then to move on...to talk to others is premature in the extreme. The timetable is so set in concrete that calls for decisions now lack all semblence of reason and logic. It will happen seasons end - roos or no roos. The only thing that may happen before is Roos may categorically rules himself out. so be it.

I have many strengths - selecting suitable marriage partners is apparently not one of them.

Obviously I am as a good a judge of character in footballers as I am in wives
-
tell that to my two ex wives
-
My take is that at worst, Roos is seriously considering the proposition or he would have put this to the torch " I will not be coaching the MFC".
-
Nonsense - in my case, the first Mrs Nutbean and the second Mrs Nutbean

hypocracy of the highest order. Zero tolerance for anyone bagging players but you have unmercifully sunk the boot into the coach ( now ex coach) - please tell me how it is different bagging the coach to bagging a player ? So you also understand the difference - Moloney was not sacked by Neeld - he may not have been wanted but was afforded the opportunity to look elsewhere and he took an opportunity at Brisbane. Neeld on the other hand was sacked and may or may not get employment elsewhere - to show such lack of respect for someone who has just lost their job is poor form. To draw a simple analogy, how would you have reacted if Neeld tweeted straight after Brent was traded to Brisbane " good riddance to bad rubbish ?". This has nothing to do with how Moloney performed for our club - this has to do with a player showing a lack of class and maturity and taking delight at the demise of another person.

And if Jamar is on big money as I am led to believe he is, we would have to contribute to his salary

I am assuming we just install him. Carlton didnt need a panel to pick Malthouse. Freo didnt need a panel to snare Lyon. I am thinking that we wouldnt need a panel to install Roos.

Our midfield doesnt look better. We need to take off our rose coloured glasses - these three were in our midfield early in the year together and we were still ewwww. Love Grimes but he has yet to string games together and whilst he has at times built up to good form( before succumbing to injury) he has not reached anywhere near A grade yet. Viney is a case of "will be" but expecting him in his first year to really impact ? Nope. And McKenzie has been done to death - he is a tagger with no offensive side to his game. Postscript - we may look better than our current setup but we are still way behind every other midfield in the league even with those three,

Rather than get into a debate on socialism - let me draw the parallel to the EPL where the governing body and their process and structures are fairly unrestricted - there are only approx 6 clubs that can win the title with the balance trying to stave off bankruptcy and just stay in the premier league. Even up and coming teams outside the big 6 dont make bold statements about winning the trophy as they know it is unacheivable unless a gazillionaire comes in and buys the club and sinks trillions into it. Compare this to our league where there are levers that the AFL uses to try and level the playing field giving all clubs some hope of rising to the very top. I know which one I prefer.

Cant agree on Morton - lots of footballer have shown a bit and then not gone anywhere and Morton is just one more. I lean towards RPFC saying we have picked badly but would top that up with the statement that we didnt develop some footballers to bring out the best of their ability. A culture of demanding the best brings out the best. However no amount of demanding would bring anything like acceptable levels on some of our picks.

It's a game off-field as well as on-field. Until a coach says - definitely not interested or I wont be going anywhere next season or I wont coach again then it is all a game.

I have stated that Don lost me on the deal brokered on "tanking" ( thats been debated to death so I am not trying to bring that up again). My reading is that Don is happy enough to pass over the reins - its just a matter of who. Jeff Kennett is "Do'er" but has a history littered with divisiveness. I certainly want the do'er part but not the divisiveness. Its a no for me. I do want to echo some of Redlegs comments on Don McClardy and the board - first and foremost - it is an unpaid position that requires many hours of sacrifice. I will critique the board and comment on successes and failures but will not damn them to the fires of hell as I believe ( maybe foolishly) that they have operated from a position of wanting to do good for our club. We may move them on and label their outcomes as unacceptable which is fair and reasonable but I will not label their efforts the same way.

It doesnt matter what a player wants - they go where they are drafted. The concessions to GWS and GC are now finished so you are now in the draft and you go to whoever picks you. It is like this nonsense of Watts going to Carlton - he is out of contract and if he wants to go to Carlton and we are fine with that then the only way he gets there is if Carlton deals with us. The only other option is for him to roll the dice and go into the draft and then you can be picked up by anyone. The only guarantee you have of getting to a club of choice is if that club ( at present ) is GWS as today and now they have first pick. ( and before anyone goes on about Scully not wanting to play for us - phoooeyy - he wanted the bucks - end of story)

Davey is a wonderful kick and made to look better still because he is one of the very few that can kick. Name the Melbourne players whose disposal is a weapon that creates ? Davey and Watts rarely wastes them - what we need is the ball in both their hands 30 times a game.

Matthews then daylight.. Flower then daylight..

It shows you how far down the gurgler we are. We are the only club that I have ever heard of where the CEO gets the call on who the President is and the make up of the board. We are aware that President and the board hire ( and fire ) the CEO - the President and the board are responsible to the club and its members whereas the CEO is responsible to the board ? I am ambivilent about Kennett coming on board but like everyone else here we are speculating on whether PJ and Kennett would get along.
-
You got that completely ar$e about - The President and the board set the direction of the club and the CEO implements - not the other way around. The strategic direction is set by the board and the CEO implements the direction the board and President wishes to take.
-
You mean there are people out there that wouldnt work with JK ? Who would have thought. I am so divided over the "JK" type person as president as they are the proverbial double edged sword. He would definitely be a crash through or crash leader and the issue with that is whether you are comfortable with the shiny car that he wants to crash through with. He has certainly been pro merger and pro relocation in the past and has been shown to be divisive at Hawthorn. He may do great things for our club but it is the definition of great that is worrying and the cost it comes at.
-
There is a sense of irony around the whole Kennett thing. Many vocal critics of Neeld have damned him for his "crash through or crash" philosophy. Neeld has shown that he knows how to use the stick ( slash and burn) but the biggest question mark over him is his ability to use the carrot and bring the players along with him. In Kennett you have a mirror image. Not saying it is a good or bad thing but you can be sure that Kennett will tip the club upside down much in the same way that Neeld has attempted.
-
We take coaches who played for other clubs, coached other clubs and the same with players. And these guys are doing it for money and we dont question their loyalty. That Kennett would put his hand up to take this position which is unpaid speaks volume. I think you can question what he would do and wouldnt do and thats fine. You can question whether you like his style or not and debate his past successes and failures but the fact that he is a Hawks supporter is a furphy for mine. To put your hand up as he has for an unpaid role as this leads me to believe that he would give 100% and do what he believes is in the best interest of the club.
