  1. "if I was Jewish I doubt I'd see the left as compassionate." So we have gone from vast side of politics described as left to the "Academic left". And bearing anti Israel sentiment equates to lack of compassion. How didn't I see that ?
  2. Flannery has not been averse to smearing other scientists for their supposed political beliefs. Speaking of the highly regarded Richard Lindzen, a Professor of Meteorology in Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he said; ‘the problem with Richard Lindzen is his politics is to the right of Andrew Bolt and Genghis Khan.' Now there's a rating !
  3. Jewish political sentiment spans the complete spectrum from left to right - being both Jewish and a paper reader I find your attempt in one glib line to try to categorise Jewish opinion as ignorant at best. Ignoring the rather wide divide between mainstream Israeli opinions as opposed to the Jewish diaspora, apart from general opposition to both far left and far right opinion, "Jewish opinion" is no less diverse than opinions held on most issues in Australia.
  4. Care to explain this little pearl ?
  5. Its interesting, after the initial Neeld euphoria on his appointment, I did wonder how the players could "believe" because from early on I was struggling. With Roos, he just keeps the message simple and seems to have the equal measures of tough, approachable, disciplinarian, but likable and friendly and it is not difficult to get swept up by him.
  6. I will have a word on Neeld. He came from the Malthouse camp and whether we like Malthouse or not we can't deny that he can coach - runs are on the board. I don't think the problem with Neeld is that he didn't have a game plan or an idea of how he wanted the team to play. His problem was he couldn't deliver/sell the message or get buy in.
  7. It seems an exercise in upsetting supporters to me. If it is not a big event ( which training usually isn't) and they will charge a very small fee - then why even bother doing it. You will collect a small amount of money for a fair amount of angst.
  8. No difference at all. The first two were potential unfulfilled and Toumpas is unfulfilled potential. I have seen far too many draftees that "will be jets"...that "will be elite" that have fallen way short of the mark. My confidence is more upbeat than ever. I still maintain that whilst some of our drafting has been questionable we have failed miserably to develop these youngsters. I am feeling confident that this new coaching and development panel will produce with our draftees.
  9. I am so old I remember MFC practices matches on the G - red team vs Blue team and you could hear the echo through the stands everytime the ball was kicked.
  10. no way...no how... I am not denigrating Fitzy but a fit Dawes in 2010 had the football smarts that Fitzy doesn't possess yet. Talk to Magpie supporters about him and they will say he played a pivotal role in that premiership year - helped them keep structure. My knock on Dawes is that he is not a great contested mark. The biggest plus for me on him is the amount of contests he DOESN'T get beaten in. He is a contesting machine that at worst halves most of the contests he is in. He runs to good spots and provides good options. He was doing this in 2010 and can do the same for us if fit ( the big "if") Fitzy doesn't have this as yet - he is still very raw - he well may havein the future but IMO Dawes matured earlier than Fitzy has.
  11. Morton will be a jet... Gysberts will be a jet... I have been burned one too many times. When I see wings on Toumpas, with flames shooting out his backside and him breaking mach 3 then, and only then will I declare him a jet.
  12. Is it just me ? If Blease is to be successful he needs to use his greatest weapon - that is his blistering pace and ability to break a line - I would like to see him out on the wing not in the forward pocket. ( he needs to do all the hard things as well to be successful...run without the ball and create pressure)
  13. Like me...you have been burned too many times. I am "trust but verify". Love what they did with the Tyson/Salem pick 2 trade in theory.....lets see how it turns out in practice.
  14. I just have a wee problem with "lock him up and throw away the key". It is a sad fall from grace. There are cultural issues and he has broken the law and will be dealt with. Call me a bleeding heart, and yes, each person needs to take responsibility for their actions but I feel a sense of sadness when anyone ( be it black, white, green or blue) makes poor life choices for whatever reason.
  15. I two have a soft spot for both of them because unfortunately I am attracted to bright shiny objects that ultimately have very little substance behind them. I am so hoping to be proven wrong on both of them. ( Watts also fits into this category)
  16. One of the (many) knocks on Neeld is whilst we acknowledge that all our stats were horrible compared to other teams, I read that our contested to uncontested ball ratio was out of whack - we were not getting enough of either but for the amount of contested ball we got we did not nearly get enough uncontested. This means that we had too many going to the contest and if we did manage to get it we either had no one spreading ( or we just turned it over). I think that is the point that RPFC was making with Clisby - that he showed he is willing to work hard and spread. I also agree that Jones doesn't get enough easy ball as he should be getting.
  17. My ex mother in law came from a displacement camp in Europe post World War 2 and initially lived in a 3 tiered terrace slum in Carlton. She passed away two years ago and I think I caused it by showing her the going price of one of the terrace " slums" in Carlton today.
  18. Still trying to digest the whole ABC is crap viewing. Two comedies this year - upper middle bogan - which was amusing but the show that followed - it's a date - written by Peter Helliar was really funny. A serious question RF - do you actually watch ABC at all to make a judgement. The reason I ask is much of their programming can be a little off centre and the only way I know if it is any good is by giving it go. I am surprised by how much of the ABC I like watching.
  19. You could put Roos out of a job with those simple solutions. On Morton - some players just cant put on bulk - its that simple On speed and agility - if it was only that easy that getting a sprint/agility coach would fix the problems.
  20. I'm with you - it comes down to this age old argument - recruiting vs development and I am keen to see if Roos and co can develop some "lost talent" into good footballers.
  21. I don't consider myself a coward but unless someone else's physical safety is at risk I will look to walk away from fights. You can call me what you like but to punch each other in the head over trivialities never made sense to me. However Not being a drinker may have something to do with my stance.
  22. Apparently May didnt see the punch coming. Don't you think that an elder of the club should do what he can do diffuse a situation not throw punches ?
  23. I am a fervent supporter of same sex marriage. Why shouldn't [censored] people have the same right to be as miserable as straight people. edit - how could that word be censored????
  24. even in 2014 there wont be a mandate - The libs have got to rely on whackjobs. you are right about all being tish - i wish there was one straight talker in politics...alas and my knickers are so knotted from footy that it is cutting off my blood supply
  25. - I understand players who look to get the best contract they can but they need to perform in return. When you are paid the big money you need to perform. In his last contract that didn't happen. And in that last contract some unsettling traits appeared - getting soft suspensions and also going less than 100% at the ball ( I never expected Aaron to be in and under but you do recall Bailey saying that there was an incident that Aaron himself wouldnt be happy about - that wasnt an isolated incident) - disagree vehemently with your second point. Some players try harder and put more in than others. You can see intensity and desire in some players and you can see it absent in others - that was rightly questioned in Aarons final years.
