  1. I'd be buying Aiden Riley - a nice little speculative share that should be quite cheap at this stage.
  2. non government
  3. I am a product of the private school system. I was also a pretty handy footballer until I injured my foie gras.
  4. A little snippet in todays paper - Champion data has a new indicator - "pressure indictor" ( can't remember the exact name of it) - it measures tackles, near tackles, chases and corralling. Guess who's currently rated no 4 in the tall forwards ? - not bad considering he missed the first month of footy and limited preseason. Anyone who thinks that Watts has played better in any of the games that Dawes has played in this year is kidding themselves.
  5. Actually Tambling got a bit of a beating in the press purely based on him being taken before Buddy ( and being half the footballer)
  6. my first football boots were a pair of moulded plastic/rubber Ron Barassi's. I have just recently been to walk again normally 45 years later after wearing those implements of torture.
  7. Although he is heavily scrutinised, I don't think that should detract for the simple fact that IMO he is not doing enough. However he really does get more attention from the media than most and TS is the first that comes to mind about a player that really has not produced and hasn't faced the harsh spotlight that JW receives
  8. Alright Dr Hogan - you believe in accountability from the medical/fitness staff ? I'm glad you value accountability so highly. Please be accountable for your posts and list the avoidable injuries over the last fews years and exactly how they were left to get worse over time.
  9. A serious question. Can anyone remember a high pick draftee that has come under as much scrutiny as Jack Watts.
  10. I don't think it is him.
  11. nah...too much logic there for me....I'd rather go with incompetent medical staff.
  12. You rely on Stats to have a Watts v Dawes debate ? Firstly one plays CHF the HARDEST position on the ground. The other is a floater. One draws the best defender in the opposition team - the other doesn't. One is constantly presenting - the other doesn't One flies for marks all the time and does not grab many but is rarely outmarked and is always bringing the ball to the ground. The other is 3cm taller and is rarely in a marking contest. One shepherds, blocks, clears paths and the other does not go into a hotly contested situation. One is constantly putting in defensive efforts, chasing hard to man the mark so there is no easy exit - the other jogs. Pedo's best work has been as ruckman but to me he looks better when not rucking in the back half rather than the forward half. Frawley was pretty fumbly Saturday night - but has been good up forward. He is an All Australian footballer - I expect him to be good
  13. Sell it and get buy in. Game plans and styles of play aren't that complicated or hard. I'm not even so sure that the defensive mindset of Neeld is that much different to Roos. The difference is that players are responding to Roos where Neeld was basically given the middle finger.
  14. We have been burned way too many times. Lots of false dawns.
  15. no...no he didn't
  16. I see your disgusting and apologist and raise you "elite" and "bleeds red and blue"
  17. Again I am no defender of Watts - but your argument is - they said it was going to rain, my jumper is wet, I must have been in the rain. Frawley drops marks, Dawes drops marks and neither of them are scared of contact. Happy to pot Jack Watts when he pulls out of a contest and when he doesn't go in hard enough but unfair to pot him for what could purely be a simple lack of concentration. ( and yes - that shouldn't happen and he should have clunked that mark) double edit - I have watched enough of Bryce Gibbs to know he is no fan of the physical
  18. I just need to go on record as saying ( and I agree with all you are saying) that at the time of drafting we did not get it wrong in most instances ( Gysberts, Cook and Strauss are 3 exceptions that were wrong at the time as they were taken way too high according to the drafting science of the time) but so many have gone wrong for all the reasons you highlighted. I listened to Dermie and he was talking about what it takes to really be successful - and he highlighted Port Adelaide. He was talking about being "elite" ( overused word) in every aspect of the club and he was saying that that is what PA are. He gave the example of Matt White from Richmond being one of Richmonds best runners and not in the top dozen at PA. Is it any wonder the Wines has been such a revelation. Yeah - he has lots of talent but he has been thrown into an environment that makes it so much easier to thrive. Then that idiot AM this morning was talking about the way we were playing defensively and how boring and horrible it was and if we are going to lose at least we should be entertaining to get more customers through the gate. I don't want our boys to be taught to be entertaining - I want them taught the right way to go about winning. For this reason alone, although I despair at not winning games I can at least see ( I think I can) that Roos is only interested in setting us up for a change in culture that will bring sustained success
  19. yet it took him to 2012 to start doing it.
  20. Twisted and perverse ? With all the science around drafting and JW ( with NN) always touted as number one ? When all indicators point at draft time to him being equal first ? An interesting discussion - How do you get to be a number one draft pick ? - I presume because all the indicators tell you that the player is better than everyone else. So as a club do you take the player that is considered the number draft choice ? Because it is apparent that being touted as the best of the bunch is not always the case. OR would you do what WYL suggests - all these indicators need to be ignored - WYL keeps banging on about Toumpas over Wines when EVERY indicator had Toumpas as the better choice. Same with Dustin Martin over Scully and Trengove. I actually agree with you that I he was always touted 1 or 2 and I understood why we picked him. I don't rear vision mirror and bemoan who we could have taken because we wouldn't ( and shouldn't) have done it differently at the time. We only should have done it different in hindsight. I do however bemoan Jack's output.
  21. me too ! He is a gem.
  22. I am forming a new group called "MOWINTW-E". ( most overused word in the world - elite) Has his good days and..actually ...he doesn't have many good days...watching him he has good 15 minutes and then does nothing for the rest of the game. With the service he has been getting from one of the best midfields in the comp for the best part of his career he should be more than elite - but he isnt.
  23. Interesting you should post that to prove your point. Watch through it again and fairly close to the beginning it has a graph on his athletic ability and it rated his speed as average. I think he has nice first 5 metres and really good evasive skills but I don't think he is lightning quick.
  24. We are talking about kids taking time to come on. I agree that picks 53 like Tommy Mac are speculative but first and second round draft picks are comparable.
  25. Elite ahhh no... But has been in the system 2 more years than Watts. His breakout year was 2012. As to your edit - No one said anything about comparing number one draft pick ( and JW didnt pick himself as no 1) - but again - go back to your history of the day - widely suggested that if Hawkins had not be a F/S pick he would have gone first round. Michael Hurley, from the same draft came on quickly but has been just OK since - he has actually gone progressively backwards since his first couple of seasons. Vickery was number 8 in that draft - ewww. I am no defender of Watts but you made the statement asking about other kids who have taken this long to come on.
