Should we trade for some 26-27 year olds?
Deetective Sgt. Taggert replied to ICU2 Jerry Jerry's topic in Melbourne Demons
It think the idea is for our current group of yuong kids to grow old together. Your suggestion while understandable in light of current performance would be going against the whole point of the 'rebuild' policy. Can't see getting anything of value from the suggested trades either. -
Is anyone else concerned about the impact of dropping so many players at once? I guess it couldn't get any worse than last week...or could it?
-
I wonder if the recent MFC review came to a similar conclusion...
-
In: McKenzie!? Can't see it happening and would prefer he gets a run at Casey but given most otherm players haven't he could be a chance to slot straight in if fit
-
I remember the criticisms of Collingwood's game plan during that period, in particular the pundits were being critical of their pursuit of attack on the wings rather than through the corridor. It's hard to back Bailey after efforts like Thursday but I don't think the game plan or the coach is necessarily the problem as others have illustrated (snoopy)

HOLD YOUR HEAD UP JACK WATTS

Drunk himself stupid? At his age it doesn't always take much alcohol to make someone a bit drunk or at least appearing drunk due to the dumb stuff most people that age do. Maybe he had only three beers and starting getting a bit rowdy - big whoop. -
Really? Not at all? Not saying that I'm advocating for random acts of violence on the field, but more a willingness to be a bit more physical on the field. Although Brad Miller in his early days does come to mind and he copped a few suspensions before removing that aspect from his game so it can be a fine line to tread
-
Interested to note that if he does please guilty and accept the reprimand he is ineligible for the rising star award but I couldn't care less about that anymore. Based on what we've seen to date this year I think this kid should be promoted to the leadership group next year for showing a willingness to dish out some agression that has been so sorely lacking from our annointed leaders
-
Another thing, didn't the leadership group get together last year following the Hawthorn loss in Round 1 and agreed to put in a much better effort that saw us almost beat the eventual premiers and then win three games on the trot?
-
Good Call, the leadership group certainly doesn't appear to have drawn a line in the sand in regards to next weeks game as yet. We probably shouldn't read too much into whats said at a press conference, but you would like to hear something a lot more definative than 'hoping' for a more competive effort from the captain.

Tonight is the turning point for the MFC.

Agreed -
Collingwood? Really? I feel like I'm watching a soccer match whenever I see Collingwood play but don't ask me why...
-
Listening to him talk just before the start of the third quarter did it for me...I thought he sounded weak and unconvincing without the slightest degree of passion

Yeah (finally) showed some courage going back with the flight (and getting crunched) a couple of times. Shame he didn't take a couple more marks inside 50 and kick a few more goals but then he (and the other forwards) hardly had a chance. I wonder if he feels less pressure away from thousands of melbourne fans at the 'G scrutinising his every move? -
Haha Melbourne Youth Choir - love it and can't help but have the image of the boys singing those lame christmas songs...

Tale of the what...? Keeping us in suspense?!

I said something similar in another post - that the next two weeks will be more telling of where we are at because in reality we were never in with a chance against an in form Eagles with their experienced premiership players up and about again at Subi especially given they beat us at home last year when we had some form. Still can't see it making much of a difference though but will try my best to wait until mid-season before giving up... ...if only Watts had taken a few more of his chances to take a mark inside fifty and kicked a few more goals then I could have drawn one positive from that game. Jack Darlings peformance just rubbed it in our face...
-
I was willing to defend Bailey until tonight. I want to wait until at least mid-season to make a final call but not sure if I can hold out that long. If this game was a one off you could forgive it but every game this season has been unconvincing and lacking in intensity especially in the first quarters. The next two games against Adelaide and North will be more telling than tonight I think though because I was always expecting at least a 4 goal loss tonight given they beat us at home last year when we had been in some form (but obviously expected a better showing than that poor display!)

We are Essendon last year
Deetective Sgt. Taggert replied to ICU2 Jerry Jerry's topic in Melbourne Demons
You beat me to it! WAs planning on starting a similar thread myself -
It was actually pick 12 that we traded for Moloney and Richmond used it to draft Danny Meyer (since delisted and rookie-listed by Port Adelaide making it back onto the senior list this year) - I think we did alright out of that one - the only other player below that with much currency was Travis Varcoe. Although the loss of Scott Thompson for pick #13 (Bate) in the same trade period was probably not to our favour.

Where are we REALLY at right now ??
Deetective Sgt. Taggert replied to plg31ni's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes the next few years are critical, although I don't feel threatened by GC. They will probably sneak a premiership in at some stage but I think they too will face raids from other clubs once the money runs out or end up with salary caps issues like Essendon post 2000-2001. -
Caroline Wilson writes on alleged "tension" at the MFC
Deetective Sgt. Taggert replied to M_9's topic in Melbourne Demons
Interesting theory there. I wonder if our unexpectedly dominant performance against Sydney that day (plus our ability to match collingwood twice last year) might have scared a couple of clubs that we might disturb their plans for AFL dominance over the next 5-10 years. It was Eddie who first leaked the Tom Scully as yet unfounded rumour was it not? One can easily pick and choose evidence to support a theory but I don't doubt that this could be a factor at play in some of the stories we've heard this year
