Lack of defensive pressure pure and simple. We recruited Maric and Strauss as “elite kicks” but they rarely found the ball. Need footy ability first which should include ability to kick straight. Salem T McD’s round the body kick (and miss) v GW$ from maybe 40 nearly straight in front was symptomatic of our collective woes. Cannot understand it. PS. It is a bizarre and seriously sad state of affairs when a team sitting top of the ladder* plays with zero confidence going forward, and with set shots inside 50 *all kudos for the defensive unit for getting / keeping us there.

Yes, we will play finals which will be a surprise to many but FFS if anyone at the club is in any way satisfied with that then we will never ever achieve the ultimate. Sad fact - nobody can find form at VFL at the moment or IMVHO in the foreseeable future.

I am thoroughly sick and tired of hearing that results elsewhere are not favorable to MFC when we have the world at our feet and our destiny entirely 100% in our own hands, yet blow games like Hawthorn, Colonwood, Adelaide. GW$ was, if in isolation, almost excusable and certainly explainable. Although I just love what Jackson brings to the ruck esp centre clearances he is looking fatigued (yes, I know, only 2 weeks pier mid season break) and I am starting to come around to “resting” him particularly given that VFL looks highly unlikely, again. Is it worth giving Daw a week or maybe 2 as back up ruck? I look forward to a refreshed Jackson for the run home.
