Ultimate Footy - Norm Smith League
Mad_Melbourne replied to Old Man Rivers's topic in Melbourne Demons
It honestly looks like that but I honestly thought players like shuey, sloane, hartlett were under 21 but they just turned 21 so I guess that is why it came across like that, so I'm happy to proceed with the u21 being out of the 100 I just don't have one on my list haha Correction I have caddy -

I personally would think the mixture of it all would be the best, 2 players of your choice, one over 100, one under 21, the under 21 could be of any number so if you get lucky anD have a good young player you aren't hindered by him being top 100 Although this seems selfish because on inspection there are only four in the top 100, I think Mitch wallis, Anthony miles, days on hepell and David swallow. And I have swallow. Edit found heppell -

I like the keeper idea, But I like starting fresh at the end of theyear! I do hate the fact that people are throwing away their season for a keeper player, Or two keeper players and I think the largest flaw in it will be seen over the next few weeks with players who get their keepers not showing interest in the game anymore! Jlh has no reason to look at his team until draft day, as he has his four keepers! He has no reason to trade, no reason to fix his line up because he has already accepted the fact he no longer has a season. He has officially tanked -

Just hit me a response, converse with me, so I can sort out some options, I have three weeks where discussions can take place as I am looking to bring in the trade just before my next match haha -

You forgot broughton haha and I'd be picking Deledio and Franklin I think I agree that the two keeper system is a much more fair system, as I said it still doesn't stop teams giving up once they have got their keeper players, I will use jlh as an example again, his stats will suffer with his acquisition of Kennedy and Murphy, with hodge also being injured his numbers will be worse having lost peddles. And now he has his keeper players, he won't be even slightly interested in any other trades, and can effectively log off uf until next year -

I agree, although I am in a strong keeper league position, my favorite part of the competition is draft day, I am always intrigued by what people take and how lists form after the first selection phase, with 4 keepers in each teams it basically makes it harder for teams to climb up the ladder next year aswell because the top teams usually have the top players. I like the minute to chose players and I like the early confusion of which player to take, and trying to organize a drafting strategy and how players like From my list josh Kennedy at pick 102, crameri at 150. That is the best fun of ultimate footy, I think aswell a team who does finish In 16th would not mind starting from scratch with draft picks of their choice! Also though I like how the keeper league does keep people interested in trading, but it still means that people become less and less interested in their own results anyway like jlh and his trade for Murphy and Kennedy, who wont play in his team this year so he lost his best player and best stat getter in return for zero, meaning he doesn't need to check his team anymore if he has locked away his four keepers, which is why I think a relegation idea is good! Splitting the league Into two leagues of 10 top half of the ladder, bottom half of the ladder, top 2 move up bottom two drop, could work to keep people interested aswell. -
Ah perfect i seemed to recall an article saying someone was elevated due to the lti of Jetta, thanks for clarification

All I want to know is whether the keeper league means there will be trading done over the summer period, it somewhat ruins the thinking of the situation, and drafting all up! But it seems fun, having said that I'm happy because I have Watson, Kennedy, Franklin, Deledio, broughton, crameri, swallow, all arguably keeper players, but none are injured so why would. Want to trade them off? For the keeper system it is basically designed for players like Marc Murphy, who this season may not be much good but next year will be good! It does mean though that players down the lower end of the table will have a bit of a struggle to find keepers because why would coaches let go of their better players who will win them matches? -
sorry cant have too many wins that way

We had a few simple ones we missed aswell, they really only had 4 more shots on target than us but it wasn't like it was spent mainly in their forward half, I think we deserved to win. -
Does this mean that one of maybe and nicho are unable to play this week as they were elevated for the long term injury?
-
I disagree with a few of your points, footy is usually won through defense, hawthorn, collingwood, Geelong, stkilda, 4 teams played in grandfinals, hawthorn clarkos cluster was a defensive set up, collingwood press, Geelong are near impossible to score against, and stkilda were the team with the least points against. Midfield does play apart but footy is won through the backline. Midfield is next and then forwards, the forward half is the easiest half of the field to play as you have to present rather than stop. The ball is coming to you not your opponent, and when you have players like pendlebury, hodge, dal santo, ablett kicking the ball to you it makes life pretty easy! It doesn't mean that the most exciting players are up front and they definitely get recognition, but other that north with Wayne Carey I don't really think many teams won grandfinals on the back of a forward.

So every team gets to keep four players? Or do top teams get to keep less? Also does this mean trading is on over the summer break? Wouldn't have a sniff of any of my trade offers, only got one response and that was ages ago! Having said that he didn't respond to any of my trade offers early in the season either Ah well, also broughton in on the trade market if I can get a defender and a midfielder, reasonable trades will be looked at I don't want Blake robbo -
Starting to play some good football aswell! Liked his game on Saturday night, gave it a good crack, if he kicked that set shot it would have been awesome! He is another one of our swing players, can play anywhere, took a few kick outs, took a mark inside 50, definitely helps the make up of our team
-
Tackle stat is a lot to do with luck aswell, he is always applying pressure and chasing but sometime you are just half a second off, 7 tackles is a very old effort in a half, but I think that for Dunn the pressure acts are what he is best at

I dont like the keeper idea either, i think the best idea is to have a bidding system on the draft again and sort it out like that, or have the people in the comp who finish lowest get to pick which draft pick they have! Just quietly though, my mob is getting some good numbers, 13 goals by buddy definitely helped me out this week! Come into the break after a few good wins and hopefully over that period I get a few players back from injury which will add to my selection dilemmas! oh and new ladder leader, my troops are currently getting the job done, they are off to boxing camp, which has been a great initiative from the leadership group, hopefully no injuries occur during the 3 weeks off! -
Thank goodness grimes didn't play in the back line, he is a midfielder, finally gets played as one with watts and macdonald playing back there
-
Gun, he is a jet, and not only does he provide dash and something offensively, he negates his opponent and does the one percenters
-
I think neeld brought it up as Moloney started to talk about playing a different role, it somewhat seemed like neeld was trying to shut him up
-
But your point was that because Hurley rag dolled rivers you would take him ahead, I was stating that based on last nights performance I would take watts ahead of Hurley. Based on career as a whole currently Hurley is ahead of watts Based on skill level watts is ahead of Hurley Based on body size Hurley is ahead of watts Based on potential watts is ahead of Hurley It just depends what you want in a player for your opinion of who you would rather. A 196cm, 90 kilo lad, with 2.8 20 m sprints and precision kicking and good decision making, does seem like someone who I would want on my list.

Surely he was saying it in a little bit of jest -
Watching jack watts clean disposal, quick movement and smart decision making when using the ball, based on last nights performance of watts and Hurley, I'd take watts over Hurley, 10 times out of 10, and that's not a slur on Hurley! I am a Melbourne supporter, and Hurley is if not the most overrated player in the league, he is definitely one of them! Any time he got near the pill last night the commentators were up and about how he just did the greatest thing ever, nearly every time the ball fell out and we got the turnover! Hurley was ineffective and useless last night, not saying that he is always, but he was!

Sellar is an honest goer, tries very hard and is supremely fit, big body and looks coachable! Fits a role and played well, always provides a contest

I guess this season it's a bit of take what you can get haha, at least the Arak will help you forget a poor performance from both Melbourne and a Balinese grandma -
