I am not for one second suggesting we don’t play Carrie and Viney together but I think Viney plays better when he is the main man. He seems to go to a high level. Have we ever had a better Captain and Vice Captain than this pair?

It is Saturday morning, the sun is shining, I am off to see my Granddaughter play basketball shortly and the Dees got up in a thriller. I am at peace with the world. Now an admission, 15 minutes into the last quarter I thought we were dead. I had given up. Wonderfully the team had not what a win.

I thought JVR did a reasonable job of the back up ruckman.

And a better balanced side. I have been following the Demons since 1960. IMO we have never had a better leading from the front captain than Max Gawn. For years I have bemoaned the fact that we never had a player who by his will could dragged the team to victory. He has in the past done it and repeated it last night. IMO the greatest captain we have had.

This morning I find myself swimming against the tide. I will be supporting Freo today! Why because I hate the Pies way more than the chance of an earlier pick in the draft.

How stupid is the VFL concept that produces all these byes? So often players dropped or coming back from injury cannot play because of this terrible system. My dad told me many years ago, good sides win when not playing well. We are far from GF form but we played a lot better last night than the previous couple. Gawn is not playing well at present honestly if he was not the captain and his name was Joe Blow he would be dropped after last nights game and the previous couple. Our mid field plays a lot better when the bun is in the centre. It won't happen but imo Max needs a rest.
