  1. This is one of the dumbest threads I have read on here. Lets leave out the here-say. I would be willing to bet $100 that Jack Watts lines up Round 1 for the demons.

Not much interest in that one.He will be there worthy or not!

  2. I don't think they are questions worth worrying about.

Mids look for options first and foremost - they may pick the wrong one, then they may not have the skill to execute, then they might hesitate on the right option leaving them no good options.

I am not going along with this 'ignoring' argument, and I lay the blame for our poor NAB Cup results of the last two weeks at the feet of our mids.

So the reason JW has had poor games is the fault of the Mids!

I am sure Bate will be happy to hear that and is no doubt telling Bailey " boss i would have kicked 6 if the mids did not ignore me.

They kept kicking it over my head!

I will admit They have not been great

however if it is all the fault of the mids then JW,MB and I have another ordinary year ahead in 2011.

  3. Ah isn't it great to have thread about Jack again, rather than the TSS!

His age may be relevant in terms of his ability to take marks, hold his ground in marking contests etc etc but his age is completely irrelevant to the issue of intensity at the ball and man. To be clear my view is Jack has the talent to be a top player, but (and it is a big but) at the moment he doesn't go in hard enough. I reiterate that Tome Scully is as young, much smaller in frame (probably what 12 kgs lighter?) and is ferocious in his attack on the ball. What's stopping Jack following suit - certainly not his age.

Some very good players are not physical I think JW is one of those types.

If he is to be a good player he will be a lead up player who kicks goals or takes good marks

and transfers the ball on well to a player in a position to score.

By 19 I think you have shown your desire to win the ball at all costs you either have it or you don't.

That does mean he will not be a good player it means don't expect him to win the hard ball

    Or burst open a pack.

IMO it will not happen no matter how much bigger he gets.

  4. Jeez, don't read that much into the kicking of our mids.

We don't get it forward enough, and we don't kick to the advantage of our forwards.

So good luck to a 19 year old 196cm CHF...

And yeah, I mentioned his age, at some point it won't be relevant, maybe when he isn't so fracking young...

Leaving aside the fact fact that some footballers make poor decisions in the space of a split second

Why would you ignore Watts to go to a contest? it is not as though he cannot mark or kick well and he covers ground quickly.

    Why ignore him?

    Why bring up his age?

Do you thing the guy with the ball thinks oh he is only 19 I will kick it to him when is 22!

  5. They were quoted in today's Age as being late payments to staff, disregarding medical advice and MFC concerns re Caseys intention to build a large gaming venue. I thought Cameron's comments were very telling as usually he is very circumspect in his comments to the media so obviously there have been some ongoing issues for some time.

Well now we are getting a larger part of the story "longsuffering" thank you for that insight.

There may be more to this than I thought.

Is Fev the straw that breaks the camels back?

  6. A contributing factor to Watts lack of possessions is that he is consistently ignored by other players...

On numerous times against Brisbane he was clearly free and the player with the ball opted to either kick back into traffic or find another target.... A clear example of this is when Jack was free on the fat side of the ground coming out of defense and the player with the ball looked at him turned back into traffic and kicked down the line causing a turnover and subsequent goal to the lions....

You need to be able to get the cheap kicks to build your confidence but his team mates at times are not helping out...

I did not get to the Brisbane game funnily enough I was in Brisbane however if what you say is correct ( I am not doubting your word )

It points to a bigger problem than his ability.

Why are players intentionally ignoring him?

    - They have poor vision

    - They do not expect he will win the ball or trust him to use it properly

or the worst one of all They do not play to him because he is "Jack Watts" No 1 Draftee who gets to much attention.

I have seen this last one before and it can destroy players and team results.

The old attitude of " if he is so good let him go and get the ball himself"

or " why should I make him look good he gets paid twice as much as me for half the result.

I seriously doubt it is the last option but who knows why he is ignored.

I just hope you are wrong but I have seen it a few times last year.

  7. No they're not, They are trying to help out themselves. Shortsighted, poor decision.

He is not actually signed yet to my knowledge

however the decision is made so why not just get on with making the best of it!

We have put our case to Casey.

We will not achieve anything if we just get into a continuing agruement with them.

That will effect the way some of our young players develop.

  8. Based on the figures floating around in the media, we need approx an extra $250k per year to have our own VFL team. If we manage to get 40,000 members - this equates to us all chipping in $6.25 each to make it viable. I for one would have absolutely no problem contributing an extra $6.25 to have our own VFL team. It's just another logical step in our movement to becoming a great powerhouse club again.

Sorry to disagree with you but I find it very difficult to believe that the figure is only $250k.

I believe it is a lot more.

Clubs like Essendon who are not short on cash continue to have an affiliate.

If the figure was only $250k they would have their own team as would Hawthorn and a few others.

  9. It seems this alignment is slowing self destructing.

At the time I couldnt understand why MFC prevented our players

taking part in Caseys' finals campaign.

Our excuse was we needed them to have ops on injuries etc (fair enough)

But from Caseys view, they were a good chance to play a GF.

That for them means more revenue, increased membership. TV exposure etc.

Peter German walked out on the club because of it.

We did the same last year, (2010) we havent done them too many favours

when they need their best side when the finals come around.

We never did that at Sandy, we helped them win 4 flags.

So something is amiss with this marriage.

I didnt want Fev down there, but I can see it can help Casey, it should help

the gate takings (IF he keeps his nose clean, and plays good footy)

But my main concern, 1 bad apple can /could destroy a bunch.

If MFC keep preventing our players from playing finals with Casey,

its not helping them ,then why should they (Casey) continue to tow the line.

it might be a storm in a teacup, or there is more going on deep down.

The big picture is the Casey region, not the scorpions.

They came with the package, but it would be ideal if alliance works.

Its looking like its on shaky ground when they cant see eye to eye.

I would much prefer we had our own stand alone 2nds

I used to make sure I got to the 'G' early to see who was

likely to come up and play seniors, Those days are long gone.

This marriage is on the rocks, time for some counselling.

You make a lot of sense Deevoted.

Lets not throw the baby out with the bath water just yet.

  10. I've always felt that Dunn plays best as a forward target and struggles further up the ground where he has no outstanding attributes. Bate IMO has actually played his best footy as a high half forward/wing where his massive boot gives us an attacking weapon into the F50 but he struggles as a key forward target. Now that our forward line is starting to take shape and we have several targets up there, I'd like to see Bate played a bit higher up the ground again in a Ryan O'Keefe kind of role before I write him off.

On Watts, I missed the Essendon game but thought that he looked ok in the Adelaide matches and he kicked a couple on the weekend. In fact, aside from Maric I'd be interested to know which of our forwards have kicked more goals than Watts in pre-season? Or how he stacks up on goals per game averages. Anyone have the info? I don't doubt the validity of the source but I'd be a little disappointed if Watts doesn't run out round 1.

If he were to put in another game like Essendon he might be a chance to miss out.

But we have carried him through some poor games up till now so why would we stop now.

It is more likely after round one IMO.

A loss to the swans and a poor one from Watts would be the receipe for a game at Casey.

  11. Surely we have too much invested in Casey to break away now?

I agree, one disagreement does provide grounds for jumping out of the arrangement.

If that was the case most marriages would struggle to make it past the first month.

Lets all take a breath and get on with it!

  12. That is a joke isn't it...(i truly hope so!!)

I am not joking we are all getting worked up about things that probably won't happen.

At Sandy and Casey there have always been cases where their team selection took priority over MFC needs.

That is what happens when you have an alliance and not your own team.

Why do Geelong and Collingwood have their own teams?

So they can get their own way all of the time!

We along with most other sides cannot afford one so lets get on with doing the best with what we have.

By its very nature an alliance will always have differences of opinion.

Sometimes that means you have to "suck it up" this is one of those occasions.

  13. Worry ?! It's a scratch match.

yes if we get belted ( which is a possibility based on recent form and our efforts against the hawks in recent times )

It will do wonders for our membership drive!!!!!!!!!!

The Casey thing is a small annoyance, a big loss to the hawks will hurt more.

  14. IMO This is all a storm in a tea cup!

Fev will be there for at the most 1 season, He will not be fit enough till at least round 3 -4.

If he shines he will find a home elsewhere in 2012, problem gone.

There is always the chance he will go back to his old ways and Casey will fling him, problem gone

As for having our own reserves side, no chance this side of five years.

    We simply cannot afford one.

It also appears to me that The MFC have so far got more out of the deal than Casey

The last two years we have left Casey hi and dry with almost no MFC players avialable after they made the finals.

Lets worry about the game tomorrow!

  15. Here is a big prediction Folks

"Campbell will not play a game for the demons at AFL level!"

Reason: big guys with poor injury records do not get over serious Achilles problems easily.

I have the feeling our gamble with him we be a flop.

Probably not a big loss however dissapointing he may not get on the park.

  16. This is crazy talk. We should be backing Bails in 110%

For the next 11 rounds then decision time arrives!

In the same way it does for a lrge number of the players every year.

  17. I believe that Mr Malthouse began his career overseeing a number of female data process operators in a Victorian public service department. This management style may work for the wobble people but I doubt that it would suit a fine club like Melbourne

Oh please get your head out of your posterior!

The guy has coached two different teams in two different eras to Premierships plus a number of grand final appearances.

He got an inferior side into two GF's against one of the best sides of the last 50 years and almost pinched one.

The guy can cut the mustard.

He is welcome any time at the MFC for mine.

  18. explain to me what the other 14 blokes having a bad game has to do with anything please

oh hes 19 then OK let him play like a woman for the next 100 games, I'll keep quiet

No C&B he will be great in 2015 problem is will I be alive to see it!

  19. I hope come mid year we can save this thread and look back at it.

Sure we where pretty disappointing in some important areas, but its the bloody nab cup!

Last year we didnt win a pre season game, and besides round one we had an ok year to standards after finishing last.

Also not long ago carlton won the nab cups and finished Last in the home and away season, so nab cup form really doesnt mean that much to me at all!

    Everything you say is correct.

However I had hoped we had improved on this time last year but it appears we have not gone very Far at all.

    Thats what worries me.

It appears that some of the problems of the last three years are still there eg. over using the ball in defence.

Why you would handball to a play in a worse position than your self never ceases to annoy me.

A close tag on Davey makes him useless.

Slow starts, when are we going to come out fired up from the first bounce?

God I hope you are right "carn the dees" because it looks like a long season to me!

  20. I know it is only a practise match but it may be another long year!

we should have done a lot better remember the Essendaon side had 6 of their best on the side lines.

There is a very old saying "When the going gets tough, the tough get going"

And once again Bennell, Jetta and Watts were not in the hunt. There is a familar pattern emerging there!

I might add they had a few mates. e.g. our captain one of the worst efforts he has put in for some time.

You would thing I would be used to this by now, but I am not I hate loosing to ordinary sides by 39 points.

  21. I've thought the same for a while - for all teams. Makes it a lot easier and gets rid of all the stupid white jumpers! Fair enough for the likes of sydney, freo, carlton, collingwood etc where their secondary colour is white, but would like to see our away strip being red again. Anyway, all been done to death already!

You are right Demonator done to death and I don,t mind the latest white away strip.

You never know it might be red one day and not pink.
