Water Cooler chat...Neon Leon to the Dees on Tuesday
Juicebox replied to StillWoewodin22's topic in Melbourne Demons
I hear what you're saying Rhino, but having a player at that end of their career not only adds experience and knowledge to the side, they also create a bit more competition for spots. Though as far as Leon is concerned... It just isn't gunna happen, but I want whatever was in that water cooler. -
There's your question and answer right there. The very fact he has to plead his case and prove that he has his [censored] together proves that he is no ordinary player trying to be drafted. I do agree though, that if he is good enough he should be given the chance. Also, Fev is at the end of his career and has been given the boot at not one, but two clubs, for consistently stuffing up. Fev & Tuck = Apples & Oranges.

Not entirely sure what the point of this sentence is. ^^ Regardless of anyone's personal opinion of drugs; if tens of thousands of members are forking out their hard earned to support a club, they have every right to have a certain expectation of the players and their commitment. With Travis Tuck it isn't as simple as, "If he is good enough he gets on the list, if not he doesn't"
-
I'd like to see him (Tuck) get another chance and I'd like it to be at Melbourne. The rookie draft is always a gamble, but at least with Tuck we're guaranteed to gain a bit of maturity and experience to our list. I know the same could be said about Fev and Lovett; but personally those 2 disgust me, and regardless of talent, I never want to see them in a Melbourne jumper.

What about when the weather starts to really warm up? Is it beneficial to train in the hottest part of the day? I ask out of general curiosity.
-
"You where obviously prepared to go just about anywhere to get another start, but how thrilling is it to come to a club like Melbourne?" Now that's some fine journalism B)

It's a bit hard to say who should be captain when really, we have no idea what goes on behind close doors. A good captain needs to lead on and off the field, and as irrelevant as some may think, they need to be able to handle the media. The perception of our club is something I believe is important, and that starts with the coach and the captain. Personally I'd like to see Jamar given the job. Seems to tick most of the right boxes, and guys like Trengove, Frawley and Grimes are just a tad too young/inexperienced.
-
"Can one day captain the club."
-
Hey round of applause for Mr Negativity... Suppose you're more impressed by the proposal of being 'competitive'...?
-
I'd love to see Fev get another chance because he is a player I've always loved to hate and watch. I just don't want to see him in a Melbourne jumper. Off-field antics aside, a 30+ year old FF is not what we need.

Max Gawn looks absolutely terrifying.
-
Most other clubs seem to be opting for an emblem similar to those in the NBA and other American sports. I'm glad that ours has a touch of class.
-
The players defended and stuck up for Scully in practically every interview throughout 2011. Now I'm not one to hold or encourage a grudge, but I have absolutely no problem with retribution and hope to see a few of the players rough him up.
-
Tapscott, Jetta, Blease, Bennell and Grimes are all players who never really spent time in the middle, but I would like to see them at least given an opportunity. We're all aware of our lack of 'elite' talent, and whilst I don't think the mentioned players will be 'elite' it gives us a few more options. However the problem with the mids is that it's quantity over quality and I can't really see us matching it with the best (in the middle) anytime soon.

The Waylen (aka Zyrus) Manson Thread
Juicebox replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Imagine, as an opposition defender, trying to deal with the unpredictability of a forward line with Jurrah and Manson. Of course I haven't seen Manson play, but it's fair to say he is unorthodox, talented and worth the risk. -
His disposal by foot is sublime, but I thought his greatest weakness was his defensive accountability. I think it was against Adelaide where he drilled a beauty from outside 50. Aside from the fact the opposition was essentially non-existent that day, was an absolute gem of a goal. I definitely think the Chapman comparison is suitable.

2011 Player Review - # 33 Austin Wonaemirri
Juicebox replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
He had such an exciting first year. Since then he's struggled physically, mentally and emotionally. I would love to see him given one more year to get his body right, improve his fitness and regain some confidence. Comparisons to Newton are a bit unfair IMO. Aside from Wonna's first season, we really haven't had the chance to see him at his best. -
Got a sticky set of fingers and the comparisons to Russell Robertson have well and truly been justified. However, and with no disrespect to Robbo, Howe seems to have a few more tricks up his sleeve.
-
More of a grudge match for Clark and his ex-teammates, as he left the lions to go home. The fact he didn't end up back in Perth might have left his old team feeling a bit dirty on the situation. Either way, if you wanna be opening the season with a blockbuster, the runs have got to be put on the board.
-
He's been one of our best players through some of the most exciting and depressing seasons. Yes 2011 was a stinker for him, but show a bit more respect for the players who have stuck by this club. He could have easily chased the $$ elsewhere.
-
As per usual when a player is available or rumored to be available, my thoughts turn to what they'll be able to offer the dees. Paul Bevan is experienced, honest, tough and versatile. Given the fact we are still such a young team, he's experience and professionalism would not be wasted. I'd personally love to see him on the list. Thoughts? Here's what Longmire had to say: "He always set a fantastic example with his fearless attack on the ball and it would be difficult to find a player who went harder at it than him"
-
Martin does provide the option of going back if needed. But Garland, Rivers and Frawley already provide plenty of height down back. Collingwood have been able to play Dawes, Cloke, Jolly and Brown in the same team. I'm sure we'll manage.
-
More often than not, when I tell someone I barrack for Melbourne the usual reply I get is: "I like Melbourne" or "I don't mind Melbourne" I want the Dees to be hated by other supporters. There is a big difference between hate and respect and until the football community feels either or both of those feelings towards Melbourne, the 'perception' isn't going to change. How that change is going to come about is the million dollar question.
-
I'm rapt that we got him. He'll certainly play a crucial role, I have no doubt about that. But is he now going to be Melbourne's highest paid player?
