  1. Now that’s genius. Make it happen.
  2. Fabulous. Let loose all red and blue critters from the woodwork!

Sports equipment business in the parental family as well. They’re good people. All the best post footy, Dom, and thanks for your service at the Dees during a tough period. Will always remember his big last quarter snap from the southern Punt Rd. corner at the MCG when we beat the Hawks for the first time in whenever. Hope he can get around the boys now.

This is interesting. Jack’s going no.1, regardless of him deserving it, immediately fulfilled an elite talent narrative. Bailey Fritsch on the other hand missed the draft and went through VFL. In his first season at Casey, he was kicking goals, sometimes bags. When I first saw him, I couldn’t believe how a kid that bizarrely skinny wasn’t just getting pushed around, and then back to the lower leagues. Given his physiognomy, Fritsch is a really rare talent, but obviously came in with virtually no pedigree and admittedly very low expectations. For mine, he’s a more naturally talented footballer than Jack Watts. No disrespect to Jack, his best will always be something I think we never saw and for all the reasons outlined in this thread.
  5. The Bulldogs get a gifted run from the umps, that’s a statistical fact. The other fact is that there will be an overt correction on their free kick differential this weekend because it’s been a big media story. The AFL/Umps are nothing if not reactive to media influence. Not suggesting they lose the free kick count, that would be ridiculous, just an obvious correction, particularly in forward 50. Weightman may not get any.
  6. They did it a few weeks ago Redleg, similar injuries, and in Geelong. You never know.
  7. Alan Partridge would be proud.
  8. Is it though?
  9. Fair enough too, even if he’s basically a front-runner.
  10. So, pretty reasonable then…..
  11. Not without a haircut, he won’t. Just ask Luke Jackson.
  12. The wet’s made this a bit of a mullet wrestle. (here all week)
  13. He’s had 5 free kicks, 4 goals from them, and I reckon he vaguely deserved one of them.

    What?!
  15. Meaningless anecdote, my Phys-Ed teacher in Auckland in late 70’s was Easton’s dad, Phil. He was the Australian triple jump champ at the time (followed his love to NZ). He was never called Mr. Wood, just Philwood. True thing.

Viney won 5 free kicks, and gave none away (next best was one 3, then all 2’s and 1’s). He was better than solid. Played his normal uncompromising inside game that demands oppo attention (for which he was rewarded) and makes life so much better for Tracc and Clarry. Didn’t overplay his role, was a perfect team-oriented effort. I reckon he’s reset from his 2 week holiday…..a blessing in disguise.

For mine, exactly what I’m saying about Greene. The Jack Viney incident is best recent example. No arguments, no Dees blinkers, he got what he deserved. Gee, he was good last night, though!

On the umpire contact issue, I remember seeing a smiling Christian Petracca put a matey hand on an umps shoulder once - a bit like a Teddy Bear brushing fluff off a pillow, and wondered if the media would comment on it - just because. It’s all about context, and the context of Toby Greene’s wasn’t good.

Yep. And yet, media marshmallow matters.

Neale’s was just desperately (too desperately) trying to get the umps attention. Toby’s was intentional physical intimidation, which (to me at least) is patently obvious. He just cannot help himself, much like the elbow fend-off that reversed his free kick. I feel for the kid, because he’s clearly got embedded issues with aggression control. They can’t and won’t let his contact on Stevic pass, and they shouldn’t, but it’s sad for Greene that he just keeps offending. We see the same in other players….Sicily, Hawkins, even Jack Viney, where anger gets the better of them, but Toby Greene’s is less internally regulated, and unfortunately for him, mostly comes off as threateningly violent.

On first crack, Morris, Johnson and Dal Santo were all talking ‘how many weeks’. There’s no way he’s just getting a fine.

He’s not going to be swayed, Watson11, he doesn’t rate Nibbler because he can’t, for reasons known only to him.

And the inability to rate his value objectively would be your problem, not his.

You’ve just gotta be joking. His decision-making and disposal are easily top 5 in this team. Have another look.

He’s the player no genuine ‘team’ wants, a self-obsessed twirp with talents way below his own estimation. And yet they keep picking him. He’s the guy you ditch to improve culture.
