What about round 1 and 2 picks for Dixon and Bennell. We would be taking a risk in Bennell, but as a package I think it's a pretty fair deal. Both worth around middle of first round picks.. Another young key forward to push Dawesy out and outside speed which is crucial to our team.. We have next to no spread outside of the contest (Vince, Jones, Viney, Brayshaw all contested kings) It fixes our list age profile (we have no 23,24,25 year old players due to rubbish drafting)...

Too right. And the bigger issue is the fact the because Edwards wasn't concussed he's only got one week. It absolutely shocks me that it requires a player to get concussed for the correct penalty to apply. That had far far more potential to injure than Steven Mays yet he's got a third of the time. The consistency may have improved in the MRP, but it still doesn't mean theyre not consistently rubbish outcomes.

That's poor management. I didn't say you don't try and win the game- the Geelong game proved that, but if giving your best player a one week rest will reduce the aggravation of a niggle or a stress significantly, you're completely idiotic to play him. You must be WYLs sibling with those capital letters and screaming player management means mediocrity.

I'd disagree entirely. The two games Jesse has been withdrawn from have been the Hawks and the Cats at Skilled. Realistically I think the FD has decided to rest him in games we are most likely to struggle in as him being there wouldn't affect the outcome. As a supporter, I'd far prefer to see him miss those games and play against Carlton, St Kilda, Bulldogs etc- games we are far more likely to be in up until the final siren. It worked conveniently in the end as resting against Geelong leading into a bye meant he'd get two straight weeks to recover before a Darwin game by only missing one game & as we know, we ended up winning without him. Even better. Furthermore, we also need to remember he is the sole focal point forward of centre on a team that relies on him heavily. The impact on a big bodied key-forward is enormous as is, and the fact he is 19 only exacerbates that issue. My initial disappointment when he is pulled from games and I have about 70% less confidence in us forward of centre is quickly restored when I realise mature decisions are being made on this young kid no matter how important we all know he is. There is no longer a 'messiah' mentality and it bodes well to ensure his body can take on the rigour of full-time AFL football going forward.

For mine, it purely comes down to risk analysis. 150 years ago, people caught stealing bread for their malnourished families were punished by being shipped from Europe to Australia as convicts. The harsh punishment surely deterred the majority leaving the only ones to commit the crime as the men/women who thought it was life or death. If they got caught, it was worth the risk as they would lose their family if they didn't attempt it. Today, we are flooded with stories and articles about the justice system letting down the victims at sentencing and furthermore overcrowding is seeing current criminals released before their due date so to speak. I don't for a second think people are committing crimes knowing they'll only receive a lighter sentence, but the fear factor is no longer there. Whether you believe it was right to execute the two Australian's in Bali or not (I was strongly opposed), the principal of it, is that you can nearly be assured no-one or very few will be doing it again. The punishment was brutal and the fear factor is now in full force. Hypothetically, if these one punch kills from street fights came with a locked in 20 year jail sentence, would I get to the level of intoxication I do currently? I've seldom been in a fight but if I saw my friend involved in one currently, I would run in and get involved as that is my fight or flight reaction.. Whilst obviously my intention would never ever be to put someones life at risk; would I run in knowing an accident will have me in jail for the rest of my life? Would there have even been the scuffle in the first place if there were stricter penalties on crimes? I believe in many ways with Nasher in that simply, the law isn't having the desired effect it used too. People are relying on their principals and values to make decisions, not on the fear of penalty.

We fall into this trap everytime. After drafting Scully and Trengove I remember reading the 'will we compete for a flag in 2015?' threads. It just heightens the disappointment when a snag comes up in the road. I don't think we'll play finals next year, but if we make the same growth from our 2014-2015 team, it'll certainly be enjoyable to see what the team is capable of on its day.

Wouldn't be against giving him another season tbh. He's almost playing the best footy of his last 4 years and there's still plenty of room on this list for leadership. If the younger guys surpass him next year, great- play them; but in the interim he is appearing a crucial part of this team and would be proud to get him to 250.

Correct. Don't forget he was also played forward by Neeld for most of his last season, was looked completely uncomfortable being out of position. Whilst I enjoyed beating him, I hold no negative feelings towards him; he always had a crack in the red and blue.

After such a good coaching performance last week Roos has been belted today. It's embarrassing how Ebert is open at the back of the pack at every single clearance!! I hope Goodwin is far better with alternate plans within games because twice GWS first, when adjustments need to be made in game, Roosy sits on them. Not good enough and I'd want a lot better performance next Monday

Held nothing against him for retiring. Family comes first in all walks of life, so good on him for giving the club notice. That said, he's now essentially a mature age recruit. About 3 or 4 get drafted at best every year and most are behind 2-3 really good years of lower level football. Dom never tore up Casey, and quite frankly IMO, he would need just the same development come next pre season as any 18 year old we pick up- yet he would be 22. I would be extremely surprised if Melbourne picked him up and am pretty confident, there would be next to no interest elsewhere from how far back he will be coming from. More importantly, I'm happy for him his family stuff is on track and his love for football has returned; I just don't expect him to be plying his trade in the AFL

Absolutely fantastic night last night to be a Dees fan. I've never liked Tigers supporters and watching them blow their rockets when Griffin took two great marks and than what ensued truly made my weekend. Onto the topic, did anyone at the game find it a little odd that the pre match service was done so early? 7.20 I believe it started for a game time of 7.50. The ceremony was completed and I felt the amazing atmosphere and the passion an ANZAC service creates was completely lost when following it, it went into the warm ups. Watching the Coll vs Ess game, I see they did it the way I presumed most would be done, warm up first than into ceremony and national anthem and afterwards straight into the game itself. Not a huge gripe, just wondered if anyone had found that a little odd? Go Dees.

This is a Ralph article so who knows what to believe but let's not forget he was playing Tasmanian league and no club was looking at him until we took a chance on him. Scully leaving hurt because he was number 1, but he never owed us anything we were just lucky we had pick 1, anyone would've taken him. Pathetic attitude players have these days and I wonder how Frawley etc could even look Jones in the eye. It's an interesting one. As a kid growing up, I didn't rate myself as a footballer, but I was excellent at talking rubbish and getting in opponent's heads. A lot of the time, you knew before the ball had even been bounced as soon as you said the first thing to them, you'd already won the mental battle and they were running around the ground thinking what a sh*thead I was, or how much they wanted to give me a cheapie as opposed to worrying about the game. There is a genuine art to being good at it and I've heard an amazing story about how Travis Cloke spent a whole game chasing Jordie Gysberts around threatening death after Jordie told Cloke a story about his sister while he was taking a set shot. On that, there is a line. With respect to Clark, there is an enormous difference between a sledge of 'no wonder you're depressed, you're s**t' for example and someone commenting saying 'when are you going to walk out on this club you traitor'. I see absolutely zero wrong with the second one, and someone who is easily put off their game emotionally could take the 2nd example to heart and let it affect them. I think that's what has happened and Hawthorn have well and truly got in his head. To me, I see nothing wrong with that example and given we know Clark is quite an emotional guy, I think he's taken it the wrong way. The Hawks wanted a reaction, they wanted him off his game, and the fact Mitch pulled out Selwood after the game to discuss it with him means they did that. Should he be sledged for his depression?- absolutely not. Should he be treated with caution because of his depression?- Absolutely not. If he isn't fit to face the game and the challenges that come with it, he is entitled to put himself on the injury list, miss a week or numerous other things. That said, I have no idea which of the two examples the Hawthorn players used, and can only hope it wasn't the first.
