Incredible insight from Tom: Petty hasn’t put a trade request in, although he did once go to school in Adelaide and his sister lives there. Although, he hasn’t put a trade request in, the Crows will still be interested, just in case the Demons do a complete 180 on a player they are basing their forward line around, next year.

    Amazing, Tom.

Staying according to this afl article

Star Dog in talks, Power mid attracts interest, flag Dee to stay - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1048515

MELBOURNE forward Harrison Petty will stay at the Demons despite Adelaide's interest in the premiership player.

The Demons will be in negotiations with the Crows to trade in forward Shane McAdam, with Adelaide having interest in luring back South Australian Petty.

However, despite having a pull home, Petty is locked in to remain at Melbourne, where he is contracted for the next two seasons and highly valued as a part of the Dees' group.

Goes to show that there is no accountability in AFL “journalism” - absolute hackery and bulldust, where the instigators are never called out on their made up stories.

Nuh mate, he wasn't de-listed. One of the conditions of moving a player from senior to rookie list that year was when they came out of contract they would be a FA, just like a de-listed player that was re-drafted

    Ah - thanks for clarifying!

When I started following football, there were 12 field umpires required each round.  Today, there are 72.  I would think the amount of 'accredited' AFL journalists have multiplied by much more. As a result, what we now have in both facets of our game, as in the modern world, is quantity over quality.

More than 1800 accredited AFL journalists according to RMIT website.

  5. Putting aside the reasons for our poor exit from Finals (we know what they are), the AFL media landscape, in my opinion, is at an all-time low. The media view of the game is often so far away from reality and incisive opinion, that it's no wonder coaches like Goody, Chris Scott etc give it such short shrift. The histrionics around the Maynard incident, blown up by an actively encouraged tabloid media is what passes for football journalism today. Of course, the AFL are delighted, because it means more exposure and coverage for them. Meanwhile, 3rd rate hacks can spew whatever opinion they like - it doesn't matter how wrong they are, because the attention will have shifted in a day or two.

I recently went to an event, where the Age's Jake Niall was the guest speaker. It was pretty interesting, but the thing he said that stood out for me was that the consumer decides what they write. By this, he meant that the algorithms generated from online reading/browsing now determine what type of article will be written. So - even though a Martin Flanagan-type piece may have way more craft, truth and research behind it, it will be rejected in favour of a Tom Morris/Tom Browne style gossip/shock horror article.

I'm super glad for the @Demonland podcast - it's the only footy media I listen to now: everything else I switch off - even when I watch games on TV, I put it on Mute. It's actually incredibly relaxing, instead of having to listen to half cocked opinions by loudmouth meatheads, who wouldn't have a clue.

In the end, trust what your own eyes are telling you: with regards to the MFC - you (the supporter) know better than most.

Agree. DD36. He has good skills and poise.
Just need the footy department and coach to show more faith and support. He allows Lever to be a 3rd tall and intercept defender which makes us look better each week.

Ps. Still cannot believe umps got conned by the DeKoning swan dive in the first quarter!?!?! Matthew Lloyd would be proud of that fake.

The Blues were flopping about all game - it’s a bad look and I don’t like it when our players do it.

Bowey is worth trialling as a midfielder for some class and dash.

Has traits similar to Zak Butters.

Agreed - one of those players who seems to have time on the ball. Also, having the defensive side to his game is a big plus as an offensive player. I wonder if he has enough tank for a wing position? Also in favour of giving Rivers more time in the middle.

Exactly and why we need to find a KPF and should've attempted to at the end of 22.

Max doesn't kick many goals.  1 goal every second match (on average).

Jackson had pretty much switched off in the second half of 22.  His mind was in Perth, body in Melb.  I suspect Goodwin learned from this and that's why he refused to play Grundy latterly.

In hindsight, Jackson's disappearing act in the second half of 2022 was very costly for the whole team and club.

We were basically playing a man down in most of the matches he played.

In 2021 Jackson averaged 0.7 goals per match

    2022   0.5

    2023   1.0

That’s a really interesting point - I hadn’t thought of it that way. Maybe explains why TMac was named, even though it was obvious in the Pies game, that he was done.

Let you know after the game.

Going out straight sets in finals two years in a row would be down right embarrassing.

It isn’t ideal, but as @Hawny for Gawny said - we don’t have the full arsenal: we are an A grader down in midfield and our already threadbare forward line is just about on its ‘arris.

I hate Hawkins the footballer, but he’s actually a genuinely beautiful human off the field. Much like May actually.

He went above and beyond for my friend’s little boy when he was diagnosed with cancer (he’s a Geelong supporter). I’ll always be really grateful for how wonderful he was with him all the way thru his battle.

I have heard the same - a ripping fella.

The AFL has confirmed it won't appeal the decision, which means we:

    - Care for Gus. Make sure he is OK. This is #1, for me anyway.

    - Work with the AFL (to the extent they want to, or care) to ensure this never happens again, or at least does not happen again without punishment.

    - FOCUS ON WINNING OUR GAME AGAINST THE BLUES. No other noise. No fugazi, whatever. Our sole and best form of avenging this BS will be to beat the Blues, the Lions... then ANNIHALATE the Pies. Simple.

100%  - COME ON THE DEES! GO REDLEGS!

It's on the front page of the Age as well. I thought it was at a Collingwood function, but apparently it was in a Chinese restaurant and he announced it to the room. How embarrassment - you can even hear his son in the background, telling him to sit down. They are foul, from top to bottom, and they wonder why everybody takes delight in the Collywobbles.

How can we focus on the footy when the AFL has made it clear who are their darlings in the competition?

This stinks of them wishing for a GF that has Carlton and Collingwood.

Let Carlton and Collingwood and their supporters continue to bray and brag. Our club, meanwhile, will speak softly and carry a big stick.

I agree, certainly lot of emotions. And trust me, I'm no saint either which I'm working hard on but last night was almost next level.

Let's not stoop to the level of Collingwood supporters and being absolutely vicious to one another.

100% @dazzledavey36 - we can't do anything about it now. Time to re-group as a great bunch of supporters and turn our collective attention to beating the Blues on Friday night.
