So essentially, Healy managed to strike a double blow? First the MFC by setting McLean up in that OTC interview, and now starting to put the boot into the AFL for what will happen to the MFC if found guilty... well, I do see some irony there.

The irony being that he is commenting on a situation that he in no small part helped to create.

Was tweeted by @MelbourneFC just a few minutes ago that "We can confirm that our response to the AFL was definitely submitted last night."

We are a small part of the MFC membership and the only reason "we're dying here" is because we keep working ourselves into a lather here in in these threads. I think you might find that the average member probably feels far less concerned than we do simply because they aren't in constant discussion about the issue. I think Don is doing the right thing by keeping his cards close to his chest.

After the whole tanking shermozzle, maybe the club wants to flag it early in the piece so that they cannot be accused of dodgy player movements later if he doesn't come up fit enough to make a return ;-)

I would think it has more to do with the fact that even if the injury is resolved by round one, he will still probably need to be brought up to AFL levels of fitness which could take a few rounds... so it is a form of insurance allowing a decision to be made on whether to promote a rookie, at a time closer to the start of the season. But I still think it is too premature to write off his entire season.

Did you read the MFC site's article OD? (http://www.melbournefc.com.au/melbourne/news/2013-01-29/gawn-placed-on-longterm-injury-list.workstation) It says: "RUCKMAN Max Gawn has been placed on the long-term injury list, following an injury to his hamstring during training early in the pre-season. Gawn will spend a minimum eight weeks on the LTI list, which ends on 22 March - a week before Melbourne's first round clash against Port Adelaide at the MCG on Sunday, 31 March 2013." They also say no replacement has been considered yet... so it maybe a little premature to be writing off his entire season yet.

Actually, I didn't mind that "Taking Woodstock" film too much, but I really didn't like The Hulk at all. Until "Life of Pi", I had preferred his earlier material like "The Wedding Banquet" and "Eat, Drink, Man, Woman" - and of course I liked "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". Not a student of film, but have always been a fan since my teens - when I was studying at Swinburne in the early 70's, I used to go every Friday night to the late night supper show at the Trak Cinema where you would catch a lot of good European cinema... now I just collect films on DVD/Blu ray... anything and everything ranging from classics such as Metropolis, Cabinet of Dr Caligari, through animations such as early Disney, Bugs Bunny, Studio Ghibli, and current - lately getting into a bit of 3D now we have the big screen LG. I like to accumulate by director as well.. so I have a lot of Fellini, Lynch, Herzog, Kurosawa, Yimou, Tim Burton, Jarmusch, Tarantino etc.

I only went to the first Sunbury 3 day festival and it was, err, interesting. Big Chris Wilson fan all the way back to his Harem Scarem days...voice of an any and the harp from hell.

Saw "Life of Pi" today and have to say it is pretty close to being the "perfect" film. The imagery, the story, the acting...everything about this film oozes class and has restored my faith in Ang Lee as a director. There are a couple of scenes that didn't quite work so well, but overall it struck all of the right emotional chords without being too melodramatic. Not a violent film, not an action film (although there are a couple of scenes that have you on the edge of the seat) and despite it employing a lot of generated effects, it is not even a film that strikes as being effects laden. I loved it, my partner loved it and my 10 year old son loved it. It's hard to describe and do it justice, but suffice to say that it works on so many levels and it had me wanting to see it again before we had reached home.

Fair enough... don't know how old you are Stuie, but if you ever attended music events such as the Sunbury festivals, you would have felt safer on a footy field...and some of the worst offenders were the so-called security people (company run by a Bob Jones if memory serves). Anyway, Robinson got his comeuppance and will hopefully think twice the next time (although somehow I doubt it).

Not sure what you are getting at Stuie... I want to sound tough? Couldn't be further from the truth. I suggest you re-read what I wrote and you will then realise that I was saying that what was caught on that video showed very little more than a bit of a wrestle and that you do see worse things on the field of play. The post I was responding to was making it out to be some sort of major altercation in which lives were at risk. And just for the record, I do not condone violence of any kind and at any venue.

Seriously?? I was watching that bit of video and wondering when the trouble was going to start... it showed absolutely nothing bar a couple of guys attempting some wrestling. Seen worse on the field of play.

I have the double blu ray pack of Death Proof and Planet Terror, but am yet to watch them; will let you know my thoughts once I get a long enough kid-free moment to watch them :-)

I found it a bit strange that the restaurant scene in Kill Bill 1 (The House of Blue Leaves) was shown in black and white because it was deemed too graphic (in a bloody sense) to be shown in colour. I have the Japanese DVD which has the entire scene in colour, and the blood is so unreal that it actually enhances the scene. One of my favourite Tarantino films is one that he did not direct, but one that he wrote (and produced?) "True Romance"... also liked his cameo in the Rodriguez film "Desperado" (another of his productions).

I don't recall saying anything about "social justice"... I thought it was pretty obvious I was coming from an angle of social awareness and the influence AFL footballers as role models (regardless of what we may think of that term) can have.

Perhaps he was concerned that burning flags might give off heavy doses of carbon monoxide?

It can be argued that with its stance on drugs and alchohol, the AFL is indirectly teaching young people about what is acceptable social behaviour and what is not. I think you will also find that the AFL has taken steps to help eradicate bullying from schools, because not only is it a social issue, it is also an issue that affects group/team culture... and guess what, I am pretty sure you will find that there is a strong link between bullying and sexuality. Do you believe the AFL should not get involved in the issue of bullying or helping to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer etc?

Couldn't agree more WYL... but just as the aboriginal flag is not ours (the reason I stated that I believed they might be offended), I do not feel that the union jack is mine either. Anyway, I wish LJ all the best :-)

So can I take it that you would like them to maintain silence on drug and alchohol related issues which are, after all, social issues of the highest order?
