  1. Will the Rev. Ken Melville, a team mate of Tiger, be coming over from Perth to do the service? Does anybody know? I know Ken did the service for Norm Smith.
  2. What a prospect is Jack! High marking ,pace, agility, nouse. Leaves Naita for dead! Loved his left foot goals and his ability to break away from the opposition. We would be MAD if we didn't pick him at # 1. Can't wait to see him in a Melbourne jumper. Thanks for the great video Morts.
  3. My sentiments exactly WJ. He was so gutsy and skilled and so small in stature. We gave him the affectionate nickname of 'tiddles' which was a cross between Ridley and Tiger. I too can see him grabbing the crumbs in the goalsquare and cleverly slamming through yet another goal. Most times it was Big Bob Johson providing the crumbs. What a pair to have in our team's forward line. My deepest sympathy to Ian's loved ones. You were so lucky to have loved a real man like Ian Ridley. He will be well remembered by all of his adoring fans of the fabulous fifties. A wonderful Demon at rest.
  4. Read the excellent book, 'The Red Fox' for full details.
  5. Apart from from watching our premierships in '55,'56,'57 '59,'60,and '64, my best moments would be: Our brilliant comeback against Carlton in 2000 qualifying final. My bragging Blues supporting neighbour hid himself away for months. This win was all the sweeter since Carlton had beaten us by nearly 100 points earlier in the season. !987 Round 22 we are in the finals after a long bleak period. We not only had to beat Footscray but hope that the Hawks could beat the cats. Both happened. !987 Our truly magnificent wins in the Qualifying final against North and our Semi Final V Sydney. Huge margins. Most devastating moment. Hearing on the radio that Buckenara had kicked a goal after the siren to lose to Hawthorn in the 1987 Preliminary Final. Never been more depressed about a footy result.
  6. Welcome to Demonland 'Scorpinhell'. Very clever name you have chosen.
  7. Ray Biffin was tough as nails and a feared man in football. It has been said that opposition 'hard men' were transformed into polite ball players when Biff was around. He also , like Rod Grinter, displayed good footy skills and he was named as one of our 150 Heroes.
  8. Frankston is hardly a long way from the southern suburbs mentioned. We have left the horse and buggies behind.
  9. I'd be interested if I was still living in nearby Frankston (30 years ago). I now live in faraway Perth which is just a little too distant to be a Casey Demon! But your idea has merit. I hope you can get a little band of loyal supporters going there. Great idea. I am by the way, a member of the Western Demons over here.
  10. Just heard it from BB himself that the boys are progressing well in the fitness stakes. He reckons that in his part time role he has much more 'hands on work' (less impromptu meetings to attend) and that he has achieved 5 weeks progress in just two weeks. Very encouraging indeed.
  11. Jaded, (at least I address people), thank you for the courtesy of answering my post. I did not however receive an answer to the question, " When did I mention Bruce's name in my post?" Never mind, let's be thankful for small mercies. You are the one who gets on your high horse when anyone dares to challenge your opinions. That you can't deny. As far as pulling on a Melbourne jumper my answer is 'never' but I pulled on the Ormond jumper when they were in A Grade Amateurs for quite a few seasons. By the way I will read what I wish and not be directed by you as to what I should and shouldn't read. Very bossy conduct.
  12. Where did I mention Bruce's name in my reply. You had better read posts more carefully next time. I assumed you meant ALL senior players on our list and that's how I answered.Your comment that my defending of Bruce is abusive is very illogical indeed. And I thought that you were a student of some kind. So by defending him or any other Melbourne player I am being abusive? Can you please tell me which of my posts I have done this? I don't expect an answer but one never knows. I also wonder about your actual experience in PLAYING the game of footy. All the theories in the world won't be a substitute for experience on the field. I only wish our umpires had been former AFL players as is the case with many of our cricket umpires. Knowing the rules is simply not enough!
  13. Strange that you didn't mention my SCHOOL analogy. Maybe that had no substance,eh? You obviously have a younger boss at work.
  14. Brilliant, non thinking Jaded! So we appoint a younger player to preside over the seniors. Try that in the Armed Forces. Admiral of the Fleet goes to a 22 year old. Yeah, that would inspire all the older, longer serving sailors. What about appointing the school Head Prefect from Year 9? That would really impress all those in Years 10, 11 and 12. This might seem nonsense but basically that is what you are suggesting. Your boyfriend Brock will get his turn IN DUE COURSE. (When he has earned his stripes.) To maintain team harmony you must give the captaincy to a more senior player in the group. Can you think of any really young AFL captains at the moment? I certainly cannot.
  15. Don't tell US how good you are YM. Tell Bailey and Co. It's no good telling us as we can't influence MFC thinking. Go on mate ring ,email all those coaches and FORMER PLAYERS who know so liitle about the game of football and give them your gems of wisdom. Be direct and don't hide behind your Yze Magic tag. It would be very interesting to hear their response to your bleatings. Not very favourable I'm afraid. Also, WATTS going to happen when we make our draft pick # ONE? Be prepared for more disappointment. But then again, we only accept mediocracy according to YOU.
  16. Yeah, his record over the past 9 seasons is pretty poor. Considering he was drafted at a lowly no.64 he has underperformed. Just look at his poor contribution to the MFC. 2000 Rising Star Nominee, 2002 Runner Up B&F (in a year that we made the finals), 2002 Best TEAM player, 2003 Best CLUBMAN, 2004 4th B&F, 2006 Runner Up B&F ( We made the finals again), 2008 Winner B&F. He was also voted as Melbourne's Player of the Year by Demon supporters. This year he was elected captain (together with Junior) by the PLAYERS themselves! They should know Brucie much more than any of us. Just what does a bloke have to do to satisfy you and a the other Bruce knockers on this forum? Get real!
  17. Wow! The Leafs haven't made the finals since 1967. At least we can top that one and we have an even better record than a few other unfortunate teams. Interesting.
  18. Many thanks Nugget. We didn't see much of Michael Clark,Shannon O'Brien (who?),and Steven Pitt did we? One trade that was bad was Mathew Bishop for Clark. As we all know Bishop was a great defender in the strong Port Adelaide sides. Also James Cook was a bit of a flop. I thought Paul Wheatley was around this time but had forgotten Matty Whelan. Just goes to show how high number drafts can be so valuable. eg Bruce- Twice runner up B&F, and now B&F. Also remember Dean Kemp of WC being in the 70's and what a great player he was. We haven't been too lucky with our EARLY draft picks recently ( with a couple of exceptions of course). Let's hope that this year will be vastly different. Once again thanks for your research.
  19. Brad Green and Cameron Bruce were picked up in the 1999 draft. I was wondering who the others were and if anyone out there knows the actual order of picks. I know Bruce was a late pick but I can't remember where the others sat in order. Thanks anyone!
  20. Did you read Mono's stats on a comparison of CONTESTED POSSESSIONS between Bruce and Green? If you did you would have to give the edge to Bruce. I don't think Cam would have been too shocked as he was named on the MFC official website some weeks ago as the favourite for this year's B&F. Also won the Melbourne supporters player of the year.
  21. No, he wasn't very brave. He only played a whole season suffering from shin splints. Try doing that Jaded in your netball games. Have you ever suffered the pain associated with this condition? He was one of our top tacklers, but in your eyes, he displayed no guts at all. Admit it Jaded, you DO hate Cam Bruce.
  22. Agree wholeheartedly! Many of those so called errant handballs were the result of some of his teammates not reacting and thinking quickly enough. Well done to Cam. He was certainly the Best and FAIREST. He was in our top 3 for tackles, but never did anything untoward to an opponent. Come to think of it, in 184 games has Cam ever been reported? That's being a pretty good role model for the kids I reckon. Captain next year.
  23. No, not because Greeny didn't win but because Cam did!
  24. [ Get over it YM! Go and have a big cry and join up with the Hawks next season since MFC is such a 'pathetic club'. What a ridiculous comment about the coaches (EX PLAYERS WHO HAVE PLAYED THE GAME). But the GREAT YM and othern Bruce bashers know much much more about football ability. Get real mate.
