I know what a false economy is hot shot, I just don't prescribe to your theory that Port's impressive performance on Sunday can be dismissed as such and I've outlined why. When was the last time you saw a Melbourne team perform like that? Certainly not under Neeld. Their pre-season form also broadens the sample. Hinkley provides a legitimate means by which to assess Neeld. Please don't try taking the intellectual high ground. You're not equipped to do so.
-
Hehe..just when you thought things couldn't get worse.
-
23 games actually. Nice retort. Resorting back to Plan A I see, name calling and no substance. You are a useless contributor.
-
Staggeringly delusional. Hinkley's success is a false economy?? What garbage. The state of the list does not lie and your vitriol can't dispute it. Younger than us. Less experienced than us. A team no-one wanted a bar of at the end of last year. Hinkley and Koch have walked through the door and as the early evidence would suggest, completely transformed that club. They made us look fourth rate. Another case example can be found with the McCartney and the Bulldogs. Is that also a false economy? As for your barrage of questions, half of which you don't really want an answer to, I'm not going to answer them all individually. Putting someone on notice is fairly common terminology, far from "emotive guff". The culture at the club has gone into decline in the past 12-18 months. You can dress it up however you like but that is plain as day judging by the completely disinterested, dispirited playing group, and especially evident in that first round showing, a day when arguably a team should be peaking in terms of confidence and application to the contest. It was a team that has gone backwards from Round 1 last year, a performance that also attracted widespread derision. So no, I have certainly not forgotten what we were like last year, under Neeld's watch. What is even the point of that question? If anything it supports the notion that Neeld is struggling to coach at senior level. I don't believe we are a great team being poorly managed. I believe we are a mid table team being woefully managed. I will wait til we play Gold Coast in Round 7 to make a final judgement on Neeld, but alarm bells have been set off. By all means, you continue to make excuses and agree with the voice in your head.
-
Lol, whose spearheading the intelligent discussion? You? With your accusations of everyone being stupid and RR being someone who takes sick pleasure in the demise of the club? Please just leave.

They were brought in to provide some leadership off the field. My gut now says leave them there, and use their spots on the field to blood some of the youngsters. Might as well look to a few years down the track cause this one's a whitewash. Won't happen of course. They'll play most weeks.

Speaking for myself, I've called for Neeld to, at worst, be on notice. I'd give him til Round 7 to prove he can coach an AFL team to something resembling success. If not, he goes. I'd be happy if he took Royal with him at that stage. The criticisms of Schwab are well documented and honestly I think his time at this club is done. I do however see where you're coming from.

What a pathetic viewpoint. No-one is revelling in this and everyone here is fully capable of thinking for themselves. What a turnip you are. Go and derail some more threads with your condescending [censored].

A couple of things aren't entirely fair but on the whole it sums up the state of the club quite accurately. Normally I'd defend the club against articles like this. I no longer can. The question now is what do we do about it. Some prefer to think it's all being blown out of proportion, even after 6 years of failure. Amazing, though fortunately only a handful seem to think everything is hunky dory. We can't sit by and watch this club die. I feel that is what is currently happening. Without dramatic turn around, individuals must be held accountable and parted with, and the fans have a role to play in calling for that.

What happens if we lose to GWS by 60 points rpfc? Hypothetical question. Do we still wait until October?
-
Pardon me Mr High and [censored] Mighty, if I may.. 22,000 to an opening home match in which we got mauled to the tune of 10+ goals by a younger, more inexperienced team tipped for bottom four, lead by a coach undertaking his first game, on the back of the single worst season I've seen. If the state of this team and this club right now doesn't alarm you, nothing will. Some of us are sick of being the competition's punch line and Sunday became a breaking point. If you can't understand it, don't attempt to.

Jens, all you seem to do is be critical of other posters. Just an observation. You're like a poor man's Ben Hur. Any chance of contributing something to the topic?
-
Neeld still deserves a chance. Just. I'm not so sure this bloke does.
-
In all seriousness, if the final margin is less than 100 points I'll be surprised.
-
That is at the heart of why this has blown up. If it was Hawthorn it would've been expected, but to completely roll over against Port at home says something is majorly wrong.

Arguably there is no-one more passionate about the plight of MFC than Schwarz, certainly not in media circles. He has just recently returned to the club and addressed the playing group, but is it now time to make his association with the club more full-time? Honestly at this stage I couldn't care less in what capacity, whether it be in an FD role or behind the scenes, I just think we need some real Melbourne people around the club. Ones that bleed red and blue. Could he do it? Would he do it? How can he be of assistance in what is a desperate hour?
-
Yeah, I don't believe that for a moment either. There is enough talent on our list to make a charge up the ladder, or at the very least be competitve against all teams. I think the problems are much more along the lines of those you have stated. This is a team completely and utterly stripped of its natural flair and confidence. I've never seen a team like it in all my years of watching this game. The only area where I differ is that I think this falls on the coach. It's difficult to forge an argument to say that it doesn't. If the team is playing like this in 4-7 weeks time, I'd shed no tears over Neeld going, and hopefully Schwab not being far behind. A completely fresh start is desperately needed at this football club.

Boy who cried wolf. Couldn't give a stuff what he has to say. Talk about fair weather supporters, Lyon seems to fancy himself as a stormy weather administrator. Either buy in 100% or [censored] off.

Ripped apart on 360 tonight, rightly so. Whateley described it as "diabolical", with the scorn being leveled at the club to possibly increase if the team beats Essendon, because it would mean they need something like this to get motivated. Robbo said Neeld had a month to save his job. Whateley disputed that, saying the coach shouldn't be first to go and the blame should be levelled at the CEO for the state Melbourne is in. Questioned his leadership and labelled him "the invisible CEO".
-
You don't get points at training. Ah that's right. When we don't have an opponent we look like world beaters. How many of our leaders are chosen for how well they train? We need leaders on game day when it actually counts.
-
End of the year? You're kidding mate. A year of performances like that and the club will have 15,000 members and play to empty stadiums in 2014.
-
Big call. Whether he is or he isn't, he's the one ultimately responsible for how they perform.
-
Why indeed. Byrnes was hopeless. Rodan showed glimpses. Both should be depth at best.
-
2318 points for the mighty Dom Barrygnon FC. At least I'll have one team celebrating a win this year.
