It's bizarre isn't it.. I guess you could say Trenners and Blease were having their first run since injury and were probably going at 60%, but still. McKenzie is a spud, pure and simple. Yes he can tag and tackle but he is a dead weight otherwise. When a player of his ability is a depth player at best, we will have moved forward.

I love all of these suggestions. -

You know things are bad when MacDonald's name keeps popping up on the basis that he has a dip. He was the worst performed player in the NAB. The single worst. I'd have literally anyone ahead of him. -
Both Kent and Davey MUST play. They can run and spread and kick. We did none of those things. Those two along with Blease will be an injection of skill that is desperately needed on yesterday's showing,
-
I never want to see Gillies out there again.
-
You're missing a third tall. Dawes to replace Sellar, who replaces Pedersen? I agree they were both shockingly bad but you have to keep one of them. I'd probably keep Pedersen but it's a tight call.

I agree with those who were floored by the repeated "we didn't see it coming". Christ, I saw it coming, and I can't have been the only one. I can somewhat accept Grimes looking completely dejected and without answers at the presser, but for Neeld to have the same look about him is worrying. Nothing in the pre-season indicated we were going to be up for this. The first team, even something close to resembling it, did not play together once during the entire NAB Cup. It was a bunch of mix n matches. To me, for a team at our stage of development, that is madness. The heat is on him now, and rightly so. On the face of it, his moneyball approach bringing in names like Byrnes, Rodan and Dawes has attracted widespread derision from opposition fans, but has been defendable. Yesterday the two senior recruits became invisible on the field and their skill execution was at times very poor. They would rightly both be dropped but we need some maturity on the field, and they're it. In time, these are the decisions that we may look back on in a different light to now. As someone else pointed out, if we get smashed by GWS in Round 4 and then GC in Round 7, it will be difficult to defend him remaining as coach in my view. Things are at a critical stage for this club.

Yes it is. I was not saying Blease shouldn't play, I was being facetious about dee-luded's reasoning to leave him out. Blease must start next week.

Two of the more embarrassing things I've seen on a footy field. The Pedo non-mark in the third quarter was so ridiculous it was comical. Just outside 50, not another player within 5 metres of him, and he opts to slap at the ball instead of marking it. Nicholson did the same thing in the first quarter. I've seen Melbourne players do some strange things but that's a new one. It screams zero confidence. As for that Gillies kick..wow. Why was he playing ahead of Terlich? Does anyone have an answer?
-
I was hanging my hat on Mick's vote of confidence as well, but what's the expiry date on that? Supporters are running Ron. They've had enough. You and I might not be but others are.

I'm not contemplating a 186 against Essendon, of all clubs. Microwave would be put into use, that's for sure.

So in other words there are exceptions to your rule. Maturity which is not necessarily attached to age, ala Kent (how you've come to this judgement based on a couple of NAB Cup games I have no idea). I would question how a 1 gamer has a mature head in AFL terms (Jones). Mature body yes. Your system is confused. Just pick the best performed players. Reward effort. Don't confuse it.
-
I actually thought the most telling stat was 38 scoring shots to 14. Against Port [censored] Adelaide!!
-
Assuming that going with a "mature bodies and heads first" is the right approach, why do you have Kent and Strauss ahead of Dunn and Sellar? Kent is yet to play a single game and Strauss has been off the park for donkeys. Why is M Jones up there? He's played 1 game. Because he was good today? You choose the BEST team, not the oldest team, even your own selections comply with that theory. edit: I agree that Kent and M Jones should be in the team next week, but your theory has major flaws and you yourself are not sticking to it.
-
I completely agree.
-
By the looks of his list, they get judged on how they went today. If they weren't amongst the worst today, they make the grade as first choice until further notice Blease goes to Casey because he came on as the sub, so wasn't on long enough to be judged. After a day when our best player BY FAR was an 18 year old, he wants to go with an oldest players first approach. Joel MacDonald ahead of Blease. Seriously no words.

So there were mistakes at the selection table, we should NOT have had 7 debutants, and there's a problem with confidence.. but it's not the coaching. And here's me thinking the coaches make the selections and instill the confidence. But all along the culprit has been "panic". I'm going to have stern words with that "panic". He/it has alot to answer for.
-
Yes, 1 game in. It's not like it's his second year with a list and gameplan of which he takes full ownership. I'm not even going to elaborate further on such an idiotic reply. I've done so throughout this and other threads. "Cracked"? I'm showing some of the passion you constantly bleet on about Melbourne supporters supposedly lacking. It would appear many others feels the same way as I do anyhow.

No-one is saying sack him now, and if they are they are fools. But there is nothing to put in the bank that says the guy can coach at AFL level and all eyes are on HIM as well as the players this season, as they should be.
-
Not sure he was right about Jack Watts to go All Australian this year, but he's on the money there.
-
I think that's putting it mildly. But money does talk.
-
Useful input, ta.
-
I didn't think he is, yet has the audactiy to label someone raising a call to arms as a "dip [censored]". This is the most dip [censored] post I've seen all day.
-
Post of the day. Shut the gate. Yep, those two kicks that Watts had sure were promising. I was more a fan of the first than the second one. Sellar was very clean, other than that chest mark he spilled which I'm pretty sure my grandmother would've taken. I'm all for positivity but complete delusion I will pass on.

That answer tells me absolutely nothing. Again, can you provide specifics on why you think it's one of the best coaching panels in the league?
