You can dress it up however you like but that is plain as day judging by the completely disinterested, dispirited playing group, and especially evident in that first round showing, a day when arguably a team should be peaking in terms of confidence and application to the contest. It was a team that has gone backwards from Round 1 last year, a performance that also attracted widespread derision. So no, I have certainly not forgotten what we were like last year, under Neeld's watch. What is even the point of that question? If anything it supports the notion that Neeld is struggling to coach at senior level. I don't believe we are a great team being poorly managed. I believe we are a mid table team being woefully managed. I will wait til we play Gold Coast in Round 7 to make a final judgement on Neeld, but alarm bells have been set off. By all means, you continue to make excuses and agree with the voice in your head.

They were brought in to provide some leadership off the field. My gut now says leave them there, and use their spots on the field to blood some of the youngsters. Might as well look to a few years down the track cause this one's a whitewash. Won't happen of course. They'll play most weeks.

Speaking for myself, I've called for Neeld to, at worst, be on notice. I'd give him til Round 7 to prove he can coach an AFL team to something resembling success. If not, he goes. I'd be happy if he took Royal with him at that stage. The criticisms of Schwab are well documented and honestly I think his time at this club is done. I do however see where you're coming from.

A couple of things aren't entirely fair but on the whole it sums up the state of the club quite accurately. Normally I'd defend the club against articles like this. I no longer can. The question now is what do we do about it. Some prefer to think it's all being blown out of proportion, even after 6 years of failure. Amazing, though fortunately only a handful seem to think everything is hunky dory. We can't sit by and watch this club die. I feel that is what is currently happening. Without dramatic turn around, individuals must be held accountable and parted with, and the fans have a role to play in calling for that.

Pardon me Mr High and [censored] Mighty, if I may.. 22,000 to an opening home match in which we got mauled to the tune of 10+ goals by a younger, more inexperienced team tipped for bottom four, lead by a coach undertaking his first game, on the back of the single worst season I've seen. If the state of this team and this club right now doesn't alarm you, nothing will. Some of us are sick of being the competition's punch line and Sunday became a breaking point. If you can't understand it, don't attempt to.

That is at the heart of why this has blown up. If it was Hawthorn it would've been expected, but to completely roll over against Port at home says something is majorly wrong.

Arguably there is no-one more passionate about the plight of MFC than Schwarz, certainly not in media circles. He has just recently returned to the club and addressed the playing group, but is it now time to make his association with the club more full-time? Honestly at this stage I couldn't care less in what capacity, whether it be in an FD role or behind the scenes, I just think we need some real Melbourne people around the club. Ones that bleed red and blue. Could he do it? Would he do it? How can he be of assistance in what is a desperate hour?

Yeah, I don't believe that for a moment either. There is enough talent on our list to make a charge up the ladder, or at the very least be competitve against all teams. I think the problems are much more along the lines of those you have stated. This is a team completely and utterly stripped of its natural flair and confidence. I've never seen a team like it in all my years of watching this game. The only area where I differ is that I think this falls on the coach. It's difficult to forge an argument to say that it doesn't. If the team is playing like this in 4-7 weeks time, I'd shed no tears over Neeld going, and hopefully Schwab not being far behind. A completely fresh start is desperately needed at this football club.
