It still takes some getting used to seeing oppo fans drop his name alongside Dusty, Danger, Bont and Fyfe. He’s now in that bracket and he’s far from done.

Seems like throwing the baby out with the bath water from a Saints perspective. This season the dude averaged first for inside 50s, second for clearances, third for disposals, contested possessions and tackles, behind only Steele and Crouch. Odd decision.

I actually teared up watching that. I remember it so distinctly. And it now means that little bit more as a marker to where we are now. Not to mention the names running around that are suddenly yesteryear… Pedo, Watts, Tyson, Kent, Garlett... they have all played a part. Also I have to say, as a long standing critic of Derwayne, his over the top commentary style was perfectly suited to that game.

The entire game three times, but “bang! bang! bang!” I must’ve watched at least 50. I’m not sure it’s physically possible for a Demons fans to not smile ear to ear after Clarry smashes through the third goal and points to the crowd. Not to mention Dogga’s assist after his clean pick up running out of the centre, and then his reaction to the goal afterwards. It’s a thing of beauty. The Trac dribbler/Kozi shepherd, the Sparrow roost and the Clarry full stop. That minute of football is now part of Demon folklore.

Shouting at the top of my lungs “I love you Nev Jetta!” during the 2018 final against Geelong when he was within earshot on the wing was a nice item to tick off the bucket list. Would’ve got an AA nod if there was any justice. At his peak there was no small defender better at executing their most critical role. All the best to him.

A bit surprised by this but equally happy with it. He’s solid backup.
