  1. How many teams in the 8 have an ex-forward as forward coach?
  2. I'd be surprised if we see (m)any changes. Apart from hardly having anyone knocking the door down in the 2's we need consistency. This is a team that has hardly played together and it shows. If Howes is right, bring him in for ... someone (Sharp?). If not, Windsor, but not sure whether he's done for the year after never getting going after his foot infection/injury across the pre/early season. Suspect that Petty will be held back another week at least.
  3. Nope. Not how it works. Mark Neeld was a new coach with a new voice and direction/game plan. How did that work out? Or Dean Bailey? How about the interim coaches we had post Daniher, all of whom also had new voices, most had decent credentials (Riley, Viney, Craig). In fact, in all those cases, the interim coaches had WORSE win/loss records than the coaches they were replacing. How's it working out for North, or Richmond or West Coast? How's it worked out over the last 20 years for Essendon? 6 new coaches with new voices and a new direction/game plan across that period, and what do they have to show for it? Anyone who thinks changing coaches would change something - except to take us backwards - is just deluding themselves and clutching at straws. And the data is out there to confirm it. You want change and improvement? Change the list. Paul Roos understood that, which is why one of the first things he did was to bring in 3 experienced players as part of a big cleanout. Those 3 (Vince, Tyson, Cross) had a bigger impact on the team and the way it performed than any new voice and new game plan.
  4. Just love Demonland. This is the forum where posters are constantly bagging Goodwin (even though all of these decisions are made by a team of people not just Goodwin, but heh ..) for yo-yoing JVT in/out of the team and in/out of ruck/forward - yet when we see one of our younger players developing in front of our eyes to be one of the best key defenders in the AFL, some here want him thrown up the other end of the ground. Because. Also the forum where "just play the kids" and "the season is shot, we should concentrate on development" means bringing in one of our oldest players in probably his last year. If the argument was throw Turner forward (but see above) to bring in Adams, though questionable it would at least be coherent. But Demonland ...
  5. Jesus H Christ. TMac was a decent 3rd defender, nothing more. And Goodwin doesn't have to decide he isn't the future, he isn't the future. End of.
  6. Been kind of the same all year, not the player he was or can be, he missed too much of the pre and early season injured. See Bowey last year.
  7. Story of the season. Can’t hit I50 targets, and then can’t kick straight.
  8. Need some players who can hit targets. Without that everything else is just yadda yadda.
  9. Wanganeen-Milera ... effortless.
  10. We dropped him in favour of Turner, you know, playing the kids and developing them etc. etc. Which was the right decision, Turner is already a better tall defender than Tom.
  11. How do you know he's [censored] off?
  12. TMac hasn't played forward for a couple of seasons and by his own admission, can't jump anymore (feet are shot). Welcome to Demonland, otherwise known as Fantasyland where everything and anything is possible.
  13. No he didn't. Our flag came on the back of 7 years of club-wide hard work and building.
  14. Delusional.
  15. And your selection to replace Petty would be ... ???
  16. I don't know that we are, but with Petty out I'm not sure who else could have come in as a KPF? Fullarton?
  17. 13 marks and 17 disposals is a subpar game?
  18. TMac either. I think I'd take Lever's 17 disposals and 13 (!) marks over Tom's 13 disposals and 3 marks. Equally, can't hurt bringing him in against his old side. But has been ill?
  19. Seriously?
  20. Confirmation bias isn't so much about highlighting data that supports your view — it's more about ignoring or dismissing data that doesn't.
  21. Unfortunately for Mary, we're unlikely to see him again. (you would think)
  22. Just ridiculous, but keeps on coming up here. Pies were in the finals for 3 out of the preceding 4 years to McRae's arrival, and had been in the top 4 for 2 of those, including grand finalists in 2018. McRae took over basically the same list with the addition of (checks notes) 2 x Daicos. Though once again, this ignores all the occasions when teams have changed coaches and either continued to go backwards, or where improvement has been minimal. And that's by the far the majority of cases. Not saying McRae isn't a good coach, but most clubs in the league have "good" coaches, and it's not helping. A solid list where you add a star or two on the other hand ...
  23. Of course you don't. Because that's how confirmation bias works.
  24. Agree. But in the understanding that playing inexperience, young, fringe players we increase the risk that we'll lose games.
  25. You would think Adams would get a run before the end of the year. Lever sick apparently, so not going to help his return. Alarm bells re May, though presumably longer term Petty and Turner can hold the fort, especially if Lever can get back to some kind of decent version of himself and help marshal the troops and provide leadership down back. But perhaps for next season ...
