  1. It'll be more telling if he can't do that.
  2. I think the focus would be more on who they plan to use in the ruck and what tactics they will use at stoppages (who is likely to be 3rd man up, therefore we need to block his path to the contest). It'd be simple matchups and finding ways to put a spanner in the other teams' works. Also seeing what sort of defence we're likely to have to combat helps. Edit: For instance, the papers have been talking up Grimley - Emma Quayle on SEN today said she'd barely seen him play in the ruck at all when in U18 competition, although she hadn't watch all of his games. Lisle as well is a young defender. The hawks themselves have mentioned Carl Peterson from memory, and last I checked he was something like 187cm. Lewis and Hodge training as 3rd man up would also suggest Lewis will play, as some have mentioned he might not play.
  3. Link: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/matthew-lloyd-cops-four-match-ban/story-e6freck3-1225767970808 Bateman suspended for 1 week. Being the last game of last season he has to serve his suspension Round 1.
  4. Possibly someone saw him, as has frequently happened in the past. If it results in Hawthorn desperately trying to tweak their gameplan in the next few days then I think that would make things a lot harder for them come game day. Considering that is Dunbar's job I have no problem with him concentrating on it. To say we should be more in tune with what we intend to do on gameday, would be to assume Bailey is waiting on Dunbar's info with baited breath. Not a likely scenario. Every little bit helps. It's about gaining whatever advantage you can.
  5. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/90853/default.aspx This kid will come very very close to winning the NAB Rising Star. As the article alludes to, the reason he is so highly rated is that he brings his teammates into the game and creates play. I've already seen him do it in the NAB Challenge matches and it'll become more and more commonplace. I'm delirious.
  6. I'd rather have Jamar dominate the ruck, force-feeding our midfielders. Often if you win the midfield battle you win the game. The more times we pump it forward, the more goals we will kick, no matter who is up there.
  7. Dammit. Wish they'd upload it to youtube quicker! Hate waiting for this stuff... It'll drive me mad for the rest of the day while I keep checking for it.
  8. I wouldn't be impressed, but I still wouldn't be surprised to see someone break it. I thought possibly it was a ploy to increase the feeling of 'exclusivity' of the package, but I do tend to agree with what you have said.
  9. Deliberate omission..? Interesting. That's the reason I asked. Wasn's sure if I was correctly reading between the lines. I'd have been of the same opinion mid-2009 but by the end of the season he convinced me he has something. But based on his preseason form (woeful in my eyes) I'd probably make the same decision at this stage. Injury may have played a part in this, but he'll still need to prove he deserves a spot by performing for Casey.
  10. Don't start this again. There is no way in hell we should have chosen Butcher ahead of Trengove, or any other combination of drafting. If all our players are fit I think we'll have a formidable forward line, given a couple of years' worth of development. None of Butcher, Talia, Black or Carlisle et al would be ready to help us now anyway.
  11. To be honest, I can't see how an intelligent discussion on the merit of Hughes and Healey's position on our list would be anything better for them to read. In fact, I think reading posters abuse of each other is less likely to destroy their confidence than reading a thorough assessment of their ability and shortcomings. I'm happy for a bit of banter as long as it doesn't completely hijack a thread. There's always room to get back on topic... I think they'll both be gone this time next year.
  12. Come to think of it, I've never had it articulated like that, but I suffered the same thing at aussie's age. Since my core has developed these problems have disappeared. Obviously I've only played amateur footy, but maybe there is quite a bit of merit in what Watson said.
  13. Mind you, you have to sign a confidentiality agreement to go along with this package. Bravado or is it serious? Depending on the content, I might be disappointed to see it appear on this forum, but then they'd almost have to expect it...
  14. Like the Doggies, Cats and Saints we should focus on developing our own until such time as we only need a gun recruit to push us over the top (Ottens, Hall and King/Gardiner respectively). We may be able to do it without the recruit, but we won't be able to do it without developing our own.
  15. Wait and see on Aussie. Very early in his career to be writing him off.
  16. Doing his job well. This is good news for us, whether expected or not. We are finally getting the right people in place.
  17. Signed up for it. I'm very much looking forward to it.
  18. I don't think you understand what you are talking about. What exactly do you mean by "developed"? We are definitely not more experienced than last year, after losing Whelan, Wheatley and Robertson for a start. Some players might have more individual experience than they had at the beginning of last year, but as a club we are less experienced. And that counts for a lot.
  19. If the AFL has purposely not released the footage, then I can hardly see MFC going and releasing it of their own accord. It would hardly endear us to them, would do little to really benefit the club and I still believe we're in a position where we are struggling to keep the AFL onside (as they play nice until they feel like screwing us occasionally).
  20. No, they've done it in the past with the Demons' Xmas Message. I've been unable to play it on my mac also.
  21. He's done alright in this area (contested marking) when played in the backline... any reason why you think he couldn't translate that to the forward line?? Some Melbourne supporters' pessimism... Entirely laughable.
  22. Cam has been virtually transparent since he began back at the club. I'm a big fan of his work. To say that "height and weight changes show us progress and development"... I give up. You've won that argument.
  23. I'm happy to persevere with Martin. Spencer at times. Even a small forward line at times, but I don't see the point of having Green as a permanent FF because it would be too easily foiled.
