  1. we all know that is the truth, but in the official proceedings it's not like anyone is going to say 'hey but they did it too! no fair!' that's like getting arrested for a crime and citing some other case where the guy got away with it
  2. we have 11 good players not including anyone arriving this draft/trade period, so we need about 15-16 of the others to get good. Simple as that
  3. yes I am with you, there is a sentimental value to following the same player in the same number through his career - I think what really turned me off all this promoting was when Jurrah got moved from 48 to 24, and hardly fired a shot after that. A curse!
  4. they wanted 33 and the lions wouldn't budge, 33 would have been stomach-able. They should have told them to go forth and multiply, instead they just said 'here take him'
  5. ok fair call, we won a final. we weren't a laughing stock. we had something to cheer about. I revise my statement to six years of irrelevancy
  6. you'll get a few 'likes' for this complete speculation though Overall I disagree with our specific Ins and outs, but I do applaud the plan of action to change the culture. 8 years of irrelevancy is plenty.
  7. YES! That's exactly my point - at the end of 07 we started a rebuild with draftees, the idea was that they would all peak together from now over the next few - what we have effectively done is trade peak-entering players for past-peak players, essentially skipping the part of players' careers that is supposed to be the most fruitful . again, if we are talking about players like Bate and Dunn, for whom the window has clearly closed, it is a different story.
  8. who are they though? they are players drafted at the end of the draft, that statistically speaking have about a 1% chance of making anything out of themselves
  9. what would we have lost by investing another few years in these players? Three spots on the list for some 5th round draft picks that will never take the field for Melbourne. If they ended up being Newton and Millers so what
  10. again, like so many others, you are talking about these players as if it is 2017, they are not 'spent' yet and these other clubs will be licking their lips. If it was Bate and Dunn in discussion I would share your opinion
  11. so in your mind Viney is a locked-in superstar - just like everyone said about Cale Morton this time 5 years ago. Will we laso be trading him for nothing in 3-5 years time if he hasn't set the world on fire? Surely you appreciate the contradiction in your logic
  12. they are 21,22 and 25 - you can join me in stewing in a few years
  13. so Carlton officially beat us in the FHead McLean situation. That makes me feel fantastic.
  14. Mate the facts are that we have given up 3 good young prospects for some mediocre types in the twilight of their career. We currently have 11 good players at this club - those 3 were not amongst them but they were certainly high on the list of candidates to get there in the next couple of years. Bloody hell we are in trouble.
  15. Martin, Gysberts and Morton gone for nothing. Neeld, you just lost me.
  16. experienced head around the club at no loss for us, why not? He is every chance to earn a spot in the side
  17. how do we know CIP's photo is the only thing behind this 'story'???
  18. Viney might give us a small something to cheer about as an 18 year old, Hogan cannot even play until '14. In all likelihood he is 3-4 years away at least of having a real impact. If you are looking at the types to puts bums on seats this year it is Clark, Jones, Grimes, Trengove, Sylvia, McDonald, Blease, Watts, Frawley, McKenzie and Howe. 11 bloody good players if you ask me.
  19. each of them has the potential to be a quality player for us. We are not flush with an abundance of others that the same can be said for. If we are talking swapping them for something else potentially useful, that is one thing - but it appears to me at the moment we are prepared to throw these guys out with the garbage which would be downright stupid. I already have a bad taste in my mouth with Moloney and Rivers gone for basically nothing, we are treading on dangerous ground if you ask me
  20. normally love your work Chook but it's your own comrades you're trolling here
  21. I agree we are doing well this trade period.. but if we end up losing Gysberts, Morton, Martin and Petterd for half-of-stuff-all I will not be as pleased that's for sure.
  22. I'm sure this must have been posted before: The Puzzling Case of Cale Morton I really am surprised at the apathy - joy even - that I am seeing in this thread. There is no question after his first 2 years he looked like a real goer, when he had 40 out of a possible 44 games to his name. Everyone seems to have forgotten he racked up 97 disposals in 3 weeks in the middle of 2009, and rounded out year with a very healthy average of 23 per game, in a side that got back-to-back spoons. He also showed aptitude as a player inside 50 at both ends of the ground. He then copped a big injury in a praccy match at the start of '10. As mentioned in the article, he has hard a hard set of circumstances so far in his career - what is not mentioned is that he has also had a number of injury problems. The guy is still only 22, that is nothing - there are 15 others between 21 and 23 on the list, by my count at least half of them have done less damage on-field than Cale has. We are trying to develop a unit and his a pick#4 with 5 years experience, he should be persevered with. It would be very poor of us to let him go now, not yet.
  23. and it was from a free kick by our skipper that was such an 'us' result
