  1. You got to pick who you like. Thomas and Pendlebury worth reaches for the Pies. Roughead (more so) and Franklin for the Hawks. But they took who they rated. We need talent in every position. So take who you think are the best. It's just interesting the know who the next midfielder off the board will be and to which club. I'm not really buying Laverde as the second best midfielder in the draft but maybe that's the way it goes.
  2. The positive is he is a bit of a jack of all trades: - Strong body - Decent height - Can take a mark - Wins it in close - Can run and link up - Can use it nicely (especially if not under much pressure) The negatives are he's a master of none. Versatility is great but you have to do things well enough to be steady in the side. He got a long period out of the side season. I hope next year they give him a really strong run at it. I'm still glad we have him. But I hope he's fitter and faster this preseason because from there he'll be more successful at being a nice versatile midfielder who can play anywhere through the midfield, half back or half forward. He wasn't all that productive but battled it out against the Hawks and even though he didn't get much of it I thought he used the ball very well in the last game against North from half back.
  3. Pick 40 should get you something like the 25th-35th best player on your list of prospects out of all the eligible players. I can't imagine that's not worth a punt compared to some of the battlers on our list. I know I'd prefer another Dean Kent or JKH to Evans.
  4. Draft videos loaded to Dee TV 3pm Oct 28 - Lachie Weller 3:58pm Oct 28 - Angus Brayshaw 7:07am Oct 30 - Jake Lever Now they are also the first 3 in the 'draft trumps' series on AFL.com.au to be released, the 4th (Harrison Wigg) was released today. But I wonder which of them (all, none or some) will be reposted to the dees website.
  5. Every time I hear this guys name I think of that baby that was mudered - Jaidyn Leskie. I'm not sure I'm ready for another Jayden to go with Jayden Hunt. I'm getting used to Jay and Jesse. Lynden took a while to get used to. I can handle Aidan and Dean's. Not huge on Jordie's and Billy's. A pair of Jayden's including one with pick 3 in the draft. No thanks.
  6. I'd say the rules are super dodgy. And that we should've made a trade earlier in the period - pick 23 for 35 and 45 (just spitballing but I feel a club would've done something like this) and ontraded the latter pick so we had our 3rd pick in the draft a little higher. But yes better we cottoned on late than never. I also feel aggrieved that we had so many high spots in the PSD over the years but being unable to leverage quality players from other clubs.
  7. Geelong? They've had Menzel, McIntosh, Vardy and Cowan on their list for years. They call Cowan MH370 because he's always missing.
  8. There were 11 live picks between ND 53 and Rookie pick 2 last year. 13 and about 5 PSD picks the year before of which several have been delisted and others were mature recycled players. 15 and 5 in 2011. Given that stage of the draft I'm really not sure it's a significant difference. You also get a couple of weeks to run a rule over who's left in the pool and get some to train with you. Pick 53 might be a difference. For pick 63 I'd rather the rookie pick really. Ok well I guess no other club with big salary cap space does take a flyer on Trengove. But I still don't think it's great business to drop him back to the rookie list. Just seems the wrong message for a guy we want back. That might sound sentimental but I'm just not a fan of it.
  9. The club got Aidan Riley last year. I can't imagine they didn't expect at least some unexpected moves in trade week/delistings etc. Simply put I think they value Terlich. That may be even more concerning but I think it's where they are at. We are talking about Ben Newton and pick 53/PSD2 becoming available here. Right now those picks look better than Terlich but there's no guarantee. The club would probably prefer the guy who's managed to play some decent footy over the last two years. Re: Frost. Membrey was delisted by the Swans and so can sign with the Saints tomorrow. They would've picked Frost up in the PSD. So in the end we gave up 23 for 40+ Frost. I had hoped we'd use 53 as well but it seems necessary for us to do that trade now that you see how it worked with Membrey.
  10. I think you'll find the club has a high opinion on Spencer. Barry just signed a 2 year deal. I think they consider him much like a new draftee anyway considering how raw he was. No point dropping him back just to fit in another depth player or late pick up. Terlich, the club seem keen on him. He is a willing tackler and hard at it I guess. He also is probably our best half back flanker behind Grimes and Lumumba (sadly I rate them all between 3 and 5 out of 10 or C graders to use another term). But the plan seems to be to cut from the bottom not players who regularly play games. I also can't see us stuffing around Trengove. For 1 someone might take a punt on him in the rookie draft. But also it's just the wrong message for a former captain. We stick by him and he goes on the LTI list. We do have the second pick in the rookie draft as well remember, so no huge hurry to get a late national draft pick instead.
  11. There was talk the saints could sign Membrey as a delisted free agent (if Sydney filled their list early thanks to academy selections etc then not offered him a contract he would have been a Delisted FA). In that case the saints would've taken Frost. The positive in the trade (besides securing Frost) is we could potentially use picks 40 and 53 instead of 23 and PSD 2. If we favour kids instead of mature pick ups then we have a combination of 2 picks. But so far we only have the list space for 1 of those guys anyway.
  12. In what world is Liam Anthony a regular? He played 4 games this year, 5 the year before. Hasn't been a regular since 2012. He turns it over. Is soft, non defensive and slow. McKenzie can at least tag. Evans, I think he'll get the chop, but even if he doesn't Anthony isn't better than him really. If either of them played we wouldn't be getting any better.
  13. We can take 2 mids with later picks, plus Brayshaw and Billy Stretch. It will come down to best available. If there was a second very good mid to take we'd take them. But just because Roos is suspect on drafting young forwards doesn't mean he won't let the recruiting staff do their job. I don't see Roos complaining about us getting Hogan. If McCartin is rated high enough we have to pick him.

Nope division winner makes it. I'm happy with that. But I do think the team with the better record should host the wildcard game. The 10-6 wildcard should host the 8-8 division winner. It would certainly be an interesting coincidence if Seattle finished with the better record and had to go play the Saints as the reverse happened a few years back and Seattle as heavy underdogs at home got the win.
  15. That would be Josh Mahoney on the left of screen
  16. If you can't kick, you can't play - Coach of the last 2 premierships/ Also how old is he? 40? Makes 18 year old Nathan Jones look young
  17. Also due to the away games early against GWS and Adelaide I'm very worried if we don't win round 1. All of a sudden we go on the road for 2 weeks before 4 home games against finalist. 0-8 start coming up. We certainly finish the year after the bye with more winable games. Better not fade out this year.
  18. No problem playing away games but we should play 0 home games at Etihad. I get in the overall picture Essendon away at the G probably makes up for GWS at Etihad. But I'd prefer it the other way around really. Just hate home games there
  19. Why always the bye before the Darwin game not after it. Does my head in. Seriously how much promo work do our players need up there compared to how stuffed they are the next week. We'll get flogged by Essendon on the back of the Darwin game, after having the bye the week before. Any momentum our season might have will be shot.
  20. Can someone please at all explain why Carlton get 6 Friday night games. Seriously. They were awful this year. Not much better last year. They'd be close to bottom 4 for teams I'd want to see on FTA. They get commercially looked after every single year.
  21. 56 second mark. Sam Blease's attempted tackle. And you wonder why he was delisted.
  22. Trengove - Navicular - Season Gawn - Meninscus surgery - ?? - A great unknown, you can play 3 weeks later after a clean up or miss several weeks Vince - Shoulder surgery - ??? - Depends if it was a full reco or some other surgery. Given Vince's high fitness base it shouldn't be significant JKH - Mystery demonland injury - return date unknown
  23. Nope pretty sure it's a continual 8 week block after the season followed by a 2 week block over Christmas. It's in the AFL CBA which you can google if you want to confirm. The things for younger guys, especially if they are living or back in Melbourne at this time of year (down for the races if nothing else) then you'd want to be fit for the start of preseason I could imagine. And it's much easier training with friends anyway so I'm sure a lot of them would be out running with each other anyway. Why completely ban them access to clubs (as happens in other sports)? I know I'd actually prefer to get some earlier direct fitness oversight from the staff as well as being in the right environment for it.
  24. This thread seems ripe for a bunch of memes letting the AFLPA know just how much we care about their ridiculous rules.
