Early days and no doubt JT will have some smokies in mind. But I reckon if we want them we might have to pick Caddy or O’Sullivan at what will likely be 8 or they won’t be there. Smith and the fossils as useful depth as Ash Johnson and Frampton - probably not. But with time that can change. In theory Petracca can go forward more easily than De Goey as we have a more explosive midfield mix.

Would like to know where contracts are at for Moniz-Wakefield and Kye Turner. AMW especially I thought had done more than enough for another year.

I reckon some teams will have Caddy in the elite crop, some teams wouldn’t even have him in the second tier. With the likelihood a team in the second tier (8-14) takes him on upside, which could even be us. Either way he’s not really contributing to the ‘super draft’

Pick 10 in this draft (which probably blows out to 13 by the pick) where we already have 6, 11. Versus a pretty solid likely worse case for end of first round compo in 2 years time. And we have a CHF/CHB whilst in flag contention. And I don’t have to cry watching Tom McDonald, Ben Brown, Schache or god knows who play CHF? What are we doing here.

I reckon the Eagles can squeeze North out of another first round pick, Reid really is that valuable. But I’ve said for a while now I think: 1. North: Reid 3. Dees: Duursma (or McKercher) 6. Eagles: Curtin Makes the most sense for all 3 clubs. The concern will be the Hawks or Dogs getting in the way, the same framework of a deal makes sense for the Hawks moving to 3 and the Eagles taking Curtin at 4.

I was always suspicious on it. Apart from the grass is greener effect that happens every year the so called ‘super’ draft was a lot of mid sized or super skinny talls and light on for bonafide mids. Caddy hasn’t fully come on. Archie Reid not at all. Moir fallen in a heap. Mitch Edwards meh. Will Lorenz unremarkable.

49ers, Eagles, Lions

I think they’ll both stay on the list so there’s no immediate pay outs, but it’s only adding rookies once they go to the inactive list. Maybe we stick with Tom and try that heavy load management tactic, ease him in to the year with a delayed start. We tried heavily managing Brown this year, he rarely trained mid week. Did a lot of sessions on the bike or ropes. Once the games started he lasted about 3 weeks.

Otherwise I’m not asking for much more than generic statements, I’d just like a rough outline of where they are at. I’ll take cliches over nothing. Well, I am a paid up member. After the draft we often get more insight from Demonland Podcast interview with Jason Taylor than we ever get from any formal media he does. In the US sports the GMs will do a proper press conference after the end of the year, free agency, draft etc. The AFL media go mad for trade details and Lamb responds about certain deals but what’s ever said about the bigger picture? Even if it’s just generic; ‘we like our kids, the draft was a priority for x reason, we explored key forwards but think our existing group has upside, our cap is in a healthy place’ Teams around the league know who has cash and which players are available. If we were keen on Ben King for instance it’s not going to be a surprise.

If the money was going in the 2023 cap the decision would be public by now, but I get a sense they’ll be on the list in 2024 in order for the money to go in the ‘24 cap. In that sense there’s no rush, we have until March to replace them with rookie train on players. Because it seems like we aren’t getting anyone who’s better than a train on player. But now is the time to let them know we don’t see their futures on the list without drastic changes.

We owe them money, not a list spot. Unless there’s some drastic reason to expect massive health improvements or there’s a special cultural reason to keep meet and 3 veg around we should move on. Its bordering on elder abuse to put them through preseasons just so they can resume the cycle of injuries, surgeries and Casey games.

I never liked the Grundy deal but it was a roll of the dice with little else available and it hasn’t cost much. Otherwise the plan seems to be to focus on 2 quality draft picks and to save cap space. The biggest cost so far is that Oliver has gone from a prized asset to a major concern and Petty has gone from a huge part of the future to someone who’d seemingly rather be in Adelaide sooner rather than later. A couple of pretty big disasters we’ve managed to find ourselves in there. I’d like the club to make some kind of comment on the list strategy once the trade period is done. Are we banking cap or are we just paying the bill for past performance? And I wish it was possible to ask them why they haven’t been more aggressive with list turnover at the back end of the list.

Poor shot creation was a far far bigger problem than accuracy. No one is kicking goals from outside 50 on the boundary apart from somehow Steele Sidebottom. I don’t know why we aren’t chasing key forwards and wings aside from the likelihood the good ones aren’t available. The hope has to be that McAdam can release Fritsch and Pickett to be the marking and speed we need at half forward to create better shots. Time will tell.

No one’s ever said Schache isn’t a good VFL footballer tho! He just lacks the contested ability and athleticism to bring it to AFL level. I’m not expecting much from Fullarton but he’s younger, been in the afl/elite junior system far less than Schache and a better athlete. It makes sense that he has more improvement in him. The last time I saw Fullarton play was the semi final against us last year and I thought for a young ruck/forward he had some promise with more development. Not saying there’s a huge chance he becomes a player but I’m willing to at least see how he goes given it’s been a year (and another preseason with us) since he last played.

Surprised that anyone watched enough Brisbane VFL to have a strong opinion. I like that he kicked some bags. Good athlete. Disposal numbers seem really solid given he didn’t get to ruck much with the Lions so often picking 2 other rucks in their VFL side. I look at the growth in Joel Smith this year as someone with stuff all forward experience but with run and jump in his legs. If Fullarton can provide something similar he can contribute.

Because Petty’s going to spend the next 2 years (if he’s with us that long) attempting the toughest job in football (key forward for Melbourne) knowing he’d rather be sitting at CHB for the Crows making 7 figures next year then 800k after.

Their interest in Chandler was before they had Rachele, Rankine and Pedlar playing well. We know who they want. They want Petty. Sadly, this pursuit of McAdam has backfired spectacularly on us.

If it’s Curtin at 8 it’s effectively the same for the Eagles as 2, 16 and a future first. That’s our best hope. It’s a bit like when we traded from Billings to Salem on our draft order, the fact that a couple of better and a few far worse players went in between means nothing.

The Crows don’t have a second round pick and most picks in that round are allocated to the suns. I reckon he’d cruise to 41, especially if we are offering him decent money

That’s of less value now that Ginnivan messed with the high tackle rule unless you’re Nick Daicos who somehow gets the old interpretation

Good work, 19 + 30 + 38 for 13 reads pretty well. Especially if it’s 19+ 30 when 38 wasn’t worth much to us this year. Id still like a 3rd live pick in this draft and to turn the list over more with some high upside players but I get why the club is prioritising the top 2 picks.

Bowes went to market last year for pick 6 or whatever it is. The Haynes mail has always been that he’s available for no draft cost with GWS paying down his wage. I’ve never seen anything linking Haynes to GWS’ first. If they’re over the cap they’d be in big trouble. But their cap was fine this year (that we know of), no reason it shouldn’t be fine next year.
