It was part of the 2020-23 strategic plan to commence construction on new facilities within the MCG precinct by 2023.

Well they just bought themselves another 9 months with this press release, right?

I don't necessarily disagree with you, the issue is replacing that revenue. Get rid of pokies, fine, but what will happen down the track when we have our hands out for AFL dollars again? In the meantime will we fall further behind the other clubs who still have pokies cash rolling in? Will we also excuse ourselves from other income received via sponsorship from gambling companies? Will the AFL cancel their sponsorships and "joint partnerships" with gambling companies or companies that rely on that income (ie broadcasters)? We shot ourselves in the foot and now face a giant hole in our income.

It was a stupid business decision, cost us millions and pokies are still rampant. The pokies didn't disappear, the dollars just went elsewhere. Meanwhile AFL and clubs happy to cosy up to gambling companies. I hate the pokies but while they exist I'd rather the money go to the MFC than to Woolworths and Coles.

I seriously doubt that's the case. If he were in line for the B&F and hadn't had the recent controversies you think he wouldn't attend?

How is it an advantage? A proper elite training facility at Caulfield should negate the need for a second one.

We should never have gotten rid of the pokies.

    What concrete plans?

Is it good news or is it chicken feed to appease the masses? They said we should have an outcome on the business case by mid-2025, let's see what they have to tell us come next June.

AFLW, VFL and VFLW can be based at Casey, AFL should get out of their as quick as possible

If we end up with elite training facilities at Caulfield and can [censored] Casey off for good would be even better
  15. Maybe we should change the constitution then. I have an issue with the board "replenishing itself" which I take to mean the old boys club running things without any sense of accountability. That's what got us into the [censored] pre-2013 and it's what has got us back into the [censored] now.
  16. I follow a member based club, with that entails a member elected board. Otherwise we may as well just become privately owned or a franchise operated by the AFL.

Yes but Papley didn't seek a trade again 12 months later. My feeling is Petracca is likely to at this stage but a lot can change in 12 months. If he does I don't think we'll hold him to his contract.

    All 3 preferably
  19. Dr. Gonzo replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
It wouldn't, if a player wants out they make sure their manager can tee up a trade with another club and then go to their current club and for ally request the trade, nominating their preferred club. Clubs have sometimes held players to their contract (Papley, Gibbs, Kelly) but more often than not the player gets their way (Gibbs and Kelly did eventually anyway).
  20. A candidate statement doesn't allow issues to be discussed/challenged etc If you want member elected boards it has to be open, I rarely vote in these things because I wouldn't know one candidate from another. The more information the better.
  21. How do the members know what they're voting for if candidates can't publicly discuss their platform?
  22. Dr. Gonzo replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Nice in theory but that's not how it works. If he wants out and nominates his preferred destination he will get there and we will just suck it up. His manager will help facilitate the trade by making sure the club he nominates has the capital to send us, which is why it's been put on ice for 12 months ,- Collingwood/Carlton don't have the capital now but they may in 12 months.

Had some real similarities to the day Jakovich ran amok at Vic Park, benched early came back on and kicked 7.
  24. Failing to make Prelims in 2022 and 2023 is a failure. We have failed the last 3 seasons. Also losing Semi finals means you didn't finish in the top 4.

Chargers 49ers and dare I say it Jets Stating the obvious but I thought we were really poor today, offense couldn't put drives togetger, struggled to establish the run game and defense was caught napping way too often. Players wide open downfield and couldn't stop the run at all but they were probably gassed because the offense gave them no reprieve. The drive that ended in the Hall TD was nice and Rodgers seemed to have plenty of time in the pocket which was a good sign, it was always gonna be tough beating 49ers at home but hoped with CMC out we may have given it a shake but were never in it after quarter time. The schedule opens up a bit the next few weeks, if we can't deal with a Levis led Titans you can forget about playoffs. Other than that was a greatly opening week of games starting last Friday with KC/Ravens, the Brazil game was good and then 6 if the 8 early games yesterday were live in the 4th quarter. The late games were pretty meh but then SNF went into OT. Love watching Redzone for the early games especially with big plays popping off all over the place. 10 early games next week is ridiculous, I wish they'd even out the games a bit say 6-6 or 7-6 split instead of 8-4 or 10-3. In betting news Cincinnati knocked me (and a third of the comp) out of survivor pool and also cost me $400 in multis! I had one 12 leg multi paying $330 for a $1 bet 11 legs got up and Cinci killed me 😔 I should remember never to get on Cinci or Chargers, whichever way I go they ruin me, tip them they lose, tip against them they win. Lesson is to stay away (saying that after I tipped the Chargers this week above haha - hopefully Harbaugh brings some consistency in their performances)
