The very, very contentious 50 for Dissent Rule
Dr. Gonzo replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dying minutes of our game last week, Hill called HTB by Harmes. Hill first disputes the decision then gestures towards the scoreboard after viewing the replay. No 50. This is the problem, umpires will rarely pay it now because it is a stupid rule but it is in the book so at some stage some over officious umpire will pull one out and it will cost a team points (and hopefully not a final!) Same with the protected area rule there would be 50 each round that are missed and one or two paid across 9 games. It's amateur. -
What they're saying at … name your heartland

It was hilarious reading while stuck in bed sick on Monday morning, loved it 🤣 Some seriously delusional people on that board. -
They can get stuffed. West Coast are easily one of my most hated club's right up there with Essendon. Perennial whingers the lot of them.

I've been following Melbourne since the late 80s and we've always had a decent ruckman (O'Dwyer, Stynes, White, Jamar, Gawn, Jackson). Hasn't been a weakness of ours.

Why is it inevitable?

You're not wrong, the overwhelming majority of footy supporters want a day game at 2/230pm. The AFL again is selling out it's constituents for a few extra pieces of silver. Disgraceful especially considering this issue gets brought up every year and is continually knocked back due to the lack of support amongst its key demographic. But they'll just keep bringing it up again and again until they get the answer they want. Hopefully the Commission tells Gil to stick it but I somehow doubt it

I know his brothers at Freo but the rest of his family is in Vic so what's the lure? His parents are here and famously have had many Demons players boarding with them over the years. Would that stop if he decided to leave?

That's the Demons board GameDay thread - each teams board had their own one plus one on the main board. Some of them are great reading. -
A couple of Richmond players did 😂

Exactly and we haven't been resting players since Burgess came on board. The philosophy seems to be around getting players match hardened and fit rather than resting them with niggles.
-
And their full-time score was still less than our halftime score.

Weid was 2nd ruck against the Hawks when Dogga was out. Weid played as 2nd ruck either last preseason or this preseason (can't remember). He is the backup for the fwd/ruck role so you'd say Jackson to 1st ruck and Weid in as fwd/2nd ruck

Yep you can already see it rubbing off on Petty during games, directing traffic around him. Invaluable to have that kind of onfield leadership.
-
The goal eventually will be to have fully reserved games with vast majority of seats allocated to reserved seat members as happens in SA and WA (and Essendon games at Docklands from memory). Scarcity may make it more valuable and people may then feel more compelled to turn up for games and use their reserved seats. At the MCG that is about 55k seats once you exclude MCC and AFL Reserves.

I'm hoping some neutrals come along to the Freo and Bris games to see a potential GF matchup - terrible timeslots for both though.
-
Just don't serve them at Richmond or Collingwood games, should be right 😂
-
Nope got served a can yesterday and was beautiful sitting in the sum enjoying a can watching the Demons do their thing.
-
Hmm similar content but distinct lack of font size and colour changes. I'm not sure 🤔

Spargo was brilliant a few times today with repeat efforts and tackling to lock the ball in when outnumbered. I thought Sparrows pressure was enormous too especially early. Never dies wondering, Sparrow.

Returning to Perth for the first game since the GF should get the players in a good mood.

Their injury list pre-round 1 had the writing on the wall. Even without covid they were in for a long season.

Actually I've under-rated him, would probably push out Jordon or take Brayshaws spot if he leaves. Didn't realise he was only 26 still a few good years left you'd think.
-
Not sure about 22 but would replace Baker on the list. Similar situation to Dunstan, securing depth.

Not worried about Clarry at all. Will sign on next year when he needs to.
