    14th and submerging fast
  2. Losing Rivers is a disaster, we are the Bulldogs of the 21st Century.
  3. Wouldn't it be more like the "Hawbourne Dawks" That brings back memories of the Guest Ridley merger. My contribution was to rewrite the two clubs theme songs to accommodate the new team; "We're a mighty team at WhoreBourne We're the mighty fighting Dorks We didn't play fine in the year 39 Coz then we were Demons and Hawks we don't have too many supporters but we still do really well Red and Blue and Brown and Gold splattered on our jumpers The love child of the AFL"
  4. "Dunn was also a first round, albeit much later, " and that is explaining away the problem.Watts is a number 1 pick,in terms of drafting anything beyond number 5 or so and they start to drop away from champions to good ordinary until you get to the second and third rounders we it takes real skill or luck not just competence ,. The future of the MFC depended on our top picks- the 1-10s and we have been sadly let down.
  5. Oh dear What do you mean by unconditional support? The only unconditional love is your mothers. I couldn't see myself supporting any other AFL club, but I haven't been tested as I never fell in love with a ravishing fanatical supporter from another club. For me football is a passion not mere entertainment. Having said that my passion has been sorely tested and has waned over the years given the incompetence of the club at every level, its lack of success, the tyranny of distance . the wankiness of so many of its supporters and other alternatives to watching a group of incompetents on TV, to mention a few tissues.
  6. And based on the standard of our drafting the club may be done pretty soon
  7. pretty well spot on for a number of reasons -I disagree with the last paragraph but won't quibble about time frames
  8. Well, that really is a really good way of completely alienating an already disgruntled member. A little more understanding of some peoples frustration might be appropriate. The fact is the Melbourne Football Club is really in deep S@#t. And not just because it has had a succession of incompetent administrations,a poor and unbalanced playing list, poor coaching, inadequate facilities and lack of finances, a prime reason that we are in this position is that we have a small and dwindling supporter base. In the fifties and sixties Melbourne had a substantial supporter group. This base has steadily declined while other clubs have thrived- Hawthorn, Collingwood, Essendon and St Kilda are the best examples. They have done this because they were able to take advantage of Melbourne's (the city) growth patterns, involvement in local communities through football and,of course, on field success. By way of contrast, Melbourne has squandered its rich heritage and successful past. Unlike Collingwood and Hawthorn we weren't able to expand into one of the city's growth corridors and membership growth relied on the children of existing supporters. This naturally dissipated as they married with non Melbourne supporters whose clubs were more successful and either changed aliegences or looked to other entertainment. With one or two notable exceptions, our leadership/management group has been either incompetent or more interested in using their positions for their own corporate or social advancement. And what have the long suffering, people like myself and other older members, been subjected to over the journey? We have done it for Robbie, paid for dissapearing bricks with our names on, dug deep for Jimmy and bought countless raffle tickets. We have gone through an entirely unnecessary merger attempt which gutted the club etc. Just when we had an opportunity to set up the club for the long term future we wasted our comparaitive advantage with poor draft picks. So no we find ourselves in a situation where we are playing garbage football and you have a go at a long standing member who has vented his frustration. I for one share his frustration if not his chosen course of action. And where are
  9. i agree I am a platinum member and am seriously considering non renewal There is only so much garbage you can tolerate
  10. And do you know many of these people Sorge? You must have some strange mates. I don't recall ever using that phrase. As I inferred on this particular forum my interest is the MFC and Jurrah the footballer. I am not interested in using this forum to pursue some other agenda,
  11. What is your interest in this matter Sorge? Do you follow Melbourne? This is a football discussion site where the common interest in the fortunes or otherwise of the demons. Obviously froma perspective of human decency there is a sympathy by many to the plight of the other party involved. But my main interest in Liam's fate as he is a valuable asset to the future of my club.
  12. No its not- it may not be entirely accurate but it is fair comment, With a decent legal system like the Napoleonic code the court room theatrics wouldn't exist.Anyway thanks for the comment Justice Jet
  13. and finally ...REASON Perhaps, but some posters are a little ungenerous. I still remember the lead up to the 2000 GF fondly and Bruce figured prominently, as he did for 200 odd games
  14. I am also now a life member, subject to Paypal's eccentricities. Am i allowed to talk to lesser supporters on the site? Seriously, thanks for all your efforts Nasher. It makes supporting the club from a distance a little more bearable.
  15. No you wouldn't His son deserves to be paid what the market deems him to be worth
  16. I hope they contact our long suffering interstate members. It may serve to generate interest in the interstate supporters groups
  17. Oh and by the way I walked out on one cricket club after the yobs started making gas oven jokes when we played AJAX. So now can we discuss the football
  18. And perhaps Belzebub, when you haven't got anyone better toplay you need players who are not quite fit because they still lack match fitness because they have missed through injury
  19. Perhaps three broken vertebrae and a missed pre season might be what's wrong with him.
  20. Goodness Gracious chaps We can't have lads like young Tappy running round hurting people, can we. This as bad as those awful ski boarders who cut skiers and toboggan types off the slopes. Damn dangerous I say. If we allow this sort of thing to happen other clubs might think we want towin. Pip Pip.
