  1. He was solid in all facets but rarely stood out I would say. Pretty sure he took a good defensive mark near the end of the game. As said above, good return for his game time. I don't think he's a star, but he showed a bit.
  2. Just watched the replay again. It really was great to see some structure in the midfield. Also the effort at running and giving options was great, in particular the guys who weren't getting the ball and just kept on running hard to give the option every time. Pedo and Barry both did this really well for little reward. It was also interesting to see Vince setting up behind the pack quite often. This is the spot I expect Watts to be taking up when he's fit, to get the quick dish and distribute. Vince played the role really well last night. As everyone keeps saying, it was only NAB, but it was pretty damn good to watch a win against a decent team like that.
  3. When was the last time we had the top five players in a match? Even if it is the NAB cup, I'm celebrating tonight.
  4. Keeping a lid on it already
  5. Tommy Mc just laid three tackles i succession
  6. Front-on tackle called in the back. Classic.
  7. I am amazed at the improvement here. A few of the new guys are killing it, we're seeing run and effort from guys who normally coast, we're seeing tough play from guys who were known to be soft. I can feel my hopes rising for the season, especially when we add some genuine key forwards at the pointy end so Howe isn't carrying the whole load.
  8. Unamused with the refs. That free is in about the same spot that Grimes was grabbed with two hands to the face and eye-gouged. Plus I can't count the number of times I've yelled "You can't DO that!" at the screen, only to be amazed as the umps say play on.
  9. Interesting listening to this. I'm hearing Trengove mentioned a few times. Good to hear that we're matching them through the middle.
  10. They said today that he has pinged the hammy again and is on rehab for another three weeks. Not a chance of playing round 1 I'd say.
  11. Yeah, I saw the scores of tonight's game and thought there may be a new whipping boy in town, but then I saw the lists. Sure the Hawks weren't at full strength, but the Lions played their 2nds tonight. Seems they're more interested in getting a look at the kids than competing at this stage.
  12. From the look of things, there are three who won't be up for round 1. Garland, Riley and Clark. That's a pretty decent start to the year, although at least two of them hurt to have out.
  13. We could always put Grimes forward to play on Grimes.
  14. Depends what they had. Norovirus can remain contagious three weeks after the symptoms have stopped. I think the game on Friday will be very interesting with the three big forwards missing. We'll get a very good idea of the difference our new-look midfield can make with the B Team up forward. Will superior delivery make them threatening or will the ball just rebound out again?
  15. Will the club be putting footage up on our website on the weekend? I have no chance of making it to the game.
  16. Anyone know if the club will be putting the game up on their website after Friday?
  17. No, I haven't. I would say if you're using a show from 1972 as your source, that counts as pretty obscure these days.
  18. So one of us sees a martial art and the other an obscure term for a person of a particular mixed heritage. I know the conclusion I draw from that.
  19. Adelaide - Whingers. Complain to the AFL at the drop of a hat. Still not forgiven for Trengove's ban. Brisbane - Faded out after being a truly dominant side. They need to clean out their board and rebuild the club behind the scenes before they'll threaten again. Carlton - Hate them on pretty much every level. Their busines practices are as crooked as they come, they have repeatedly been given special dispensations from the AFL, they tanked far more obviously than we ever did and their players tend to be pretty nasty pieces of work as well. Collingwood - Dislike mixed with grudging respect. Essendon - Scummy club before the drug thing, scummy club now. The fact that they are still refusing to admit any fault and are planning on carrying on as if nothing happened after this year is just further proof of their arrogance. Hope the breach notices fly. Fremantle - No real feelings on them Geelong - Respect. They have bee a great side for a long time. They did away with their thuggish culture and built a benchmark team in it's place. Gold Coast - They are building a really good side. Respect tinged with annoyance for the generosity of their concessions. GWS - A disgrace to the competition on so many levels. The team that should never have happened. Hawthorn - Like Geelong, respect. They have a strong side, a great game and will be able to soak the loss of Buddy pretty well. I just wish they would grow their own defenders instead of poaching. North Melbourne - Just so sick of them beating us every bloody time. Port Adelaide - Meh. Richmond - Bit of a measuring stick for us, but not much else. St Kilda - Meh. Sydney - Not much really. Think they are on the way out of the 8. West Coast - See Sydney Western Bulldogs - Pretty much the least noticed club in the league.
  20. I expect Fitz to play a fair bit this year. For a start Roos has repeatedly said that Hogan is not an automatic starter and will have to earn his spot like any other first year player. Then there is the injury record of our key forwards. Jack is in fact the most durable of the bunch based on their last couple of years. I agree that he is probably behind a couple of the others in the pecking order, but don't dismiss him just yet.
  21. Do you actually know what Sambo is? How is it in any way racist to have a username referring to a form of martial art? For all we know he is a practitioner.
