  1. Good to see Tom Scully warming up for his first game for the season even if it's for Casey and not Melbourne. If he's up to it he'll get more than the obligatory half a game that many get when returning from long term injury. In the ressies, the Seagulls ran away with it in the end. Casey Scorpions 4.0.24 8.1.49 9.4.58 13.5.83 Williamstown 5.6.36 10.9.69 19.11.125 23.13.151 Goals Casey Scorpions Waite 7 Hill Petropoulos 2 Bell Purves Williamstown Gray 4 Conway Cravino Kefford 3 Johannisen Morris Purton-Smith 2 Caruso Carr Fogarty Panos Best Casey Scorpions Waite Riseley Hill Bolton Weekes Salton Williamstown Carr Caruso Cravino Conway Rampe Grossman
  2. Some changes to the Williamstown line up made necessay by the withdrawal from the Bulldogs of Ryan Hargrave and Brodie Moles due to injury. This means that Brian Lake and Lindsay Gilbee come out of today's Seagulls' team. In the reserves Williamstown leads 10.9.69 to Casey Scorpions 8.1.49 at half time.

  4. And Peter German wouldn't be [censored] himself. He's a cool customer.
  5. I must add that the VFL reserves fixture is an absolute nightmare to work out. The Casey Scorpions have already had one bye earlier in the season and have a bye this week and again next week. That's three byes in their first eight rounds. They played their first and only home game for the season a fortnight ago when they beat Frankston by over 100 points. Their next two games after the byes are away from home so they don't play their second home game for the year until the mid-point of the season in round 11. The reserves have played five games this year, two of them against the Northern Bullants and, of course, both of them have been away games. Even in tomorrow's practice game against Cranbourne at Casey Fields there's no home ground advantage because the two clubs share the venue although there has been some controversy locally about that because the powers that be want the Cranbourne team to play on ovals other than the main ground. I don't want to buy into that particular issue but it's good to see the two clubs co-operating in holding this game and I wish that there was more of it in the area. The two byes in a row would have severely hampered the return of players coming back from injury like Jordie McKenzie, Robert Campbell and youngsters Troy Davis and Cameron Johnston so it's good to have a local club like Cranbourne coming in to lend support. Over the years of VFL alignments with both Sandringham and Casey, many players began their rehabilitation from injuries in the reserves sides and rather than dump alignments, we will be better off strengthening the local areas and teams in order to improve the standards of our lists and our support base.
  6. The Casey reserves have a bye but will play a practice game against local club Cranbourne as a curtain raiser to the seniors game at Casey Fields. Kick off at 11am. The Melbourne-listed players featuring in the practice game are Robert Campbell, Troy Davis and Cameron Johnston.

  8. Both Jake Spencer and Jack Fitzpatrick sustained their injuries during the second quarter at Preston yesterday. Injuries are terrible but they're part and parcel of the game. Sad for it to happen this way but the injuries will fast track Michael Evans' career. He played well again yesterday and his pace could be handy in Melbourne's midfield. This will accelerate his elevation from the rookie list and he could get a guernsey by mid year. Dan Nicholson has been in good form at Casey as well but was subdued yesterday. Best wishes to Jack and Jake for speedy recoveries!

  10. Fevola's third from 50 makes it a one point ball game but a reply for the Bullants makes it 7 points. Going into time on.
  11. A goal to Jeremy Howe, his second, gives the Scorps a chance. 7 points in it - Scorps against the wind.
  12. Bullants by 8 points half way through the final term.
  13. Evans and Bennell both have been been playing well.
  14. Three Qtr time Northern Bullants 5.10.40 Casey Scorps 5.8.38
  15. Fev 2 goals this term. Ants by 3 points.
  16. I didn't see much of the game but I notice he kicked a goal. I'm told Max Gawn was outstanding in the ruck in the twos. Given the news about Spencer and Fitzpatrick it looks like an automatic recall for Max next week. Here in the third quarter, the Bullants hold a 9 point lead at about the halfway mark. Brendan Fevola just missed an easy shot from 30 metres.
  17. Casey Scorpions 3.5.23 trailing Northern Bullants 5.7.37 at half time. It's a tough slog for the Scorpions today at Cramer Street, made extra difficult by injuries to the tall timber in the side during that quarter. Jake Spencer went down with a knee and Jack Fitzpatrick rolled an ankle.
  18. The Bullants got the jump on Casey with the game's first three goals but the Scorpions fought it out and the home side leads at the first break by 3.2.20 to 1.3.9.
  19. Reserves with a big 94 point win. Casey Scorpions 9.5.59 14.7.91 19.12.126 23.12.150 Northern Bullants 1.4.10 3.8.26 5.11.41 7.14.56 Goals Casey ScorpionsCleven Purves 4 McNamara Riseley 3 Weekes 2 Bell Campbell Clay Dowse Gawn Lindsay McKenzie Northern BullantsDorman Way 2 Jenkins McLellan Ogilvie Best Casey Scorpions McNamara Gawn Allen Weekes Cleven Hill Northern Bullants Bransgrove Wills Smith Jenkins Carroll Soncin
  20. Big day for the Casey Scorpions today. The winner takes a place in the top four while the loser is left fighting it out for a spot in the bottom half of the eight. Although it's early in the season this is one of those make or break games that the team needs to win. With the Bullants' alignment partner not playing till tomorrow night there should be a decent crowd coming along to see their former beloved Fev.
