  1. The player's name is Pierce Liddle and he's now on the Bendigo Bombers' list which IMO was a bad career move. Don't know about the scholarship. I'll ask WJ.

  3. An interesting write up in the local Cranbourne press: Inaccurate Scorpions rein in Cats
  4. Inaccurate Scorpions rein in Cats Great news indeed. First step to get out of hospital. Next rehab and let's hope we see him back in action soon!
  5. Thanks for your impressions Don. Well put and much appreciated. The Casey Reserves ventured out to windswept TEAC Oval and lost a strongly contested game. 6. Firstly, a great first up win for coach Brad Gotch. The Scorps are slow starters and they nearly kicked themselves out of the game in the first half. After half time however, they were the dominant side albeit forced to play catch up football and, in the end, they caught up in the nick of time. Stef Martin was the team's tall forward playing deep and he could easily have kicked six but for the fact that he was off target early. His goal just before half time when he baulked an opponent and kicked accurately at last was a gem. I'm still not sure if attack is the place for him - he comes from a basketball background and I'm sure he still has a lot to learn. He may be forced to become a forward because of the lack of places in the team available for him. Tom McNamara was solid in defence and was close to Casey's best against a quality opponent. He will also suffer from lack of opportunity as Colin Garland and Jared Rivers are both well ahead of him at this stage. Miller played at CHF and just went. Maric started slowly but was better after half time and kicked a crucial goal. Jack Watts was in Casey's best playing half forward and wing. He picked up around 20 disposals and was both creative and effective. He is growing and bulking up and should be back in AFL ranks within the next couple of weeks if a place opens up for him.

  8. Nine points in it at three quarter time - Casey 6.11.47 to Geelong 8.8.56. Martin 3 goals. To clarify the situation, Garland is the only one of tomorrow's named emergencies not playing. Kyle Cheney and Jake Spencer are both playing tonight so, if there is to be a change in the Melbourne team tomorrow, it will be Garland coming into the side.
  9. Scorps kick first 2 goals but Cats reply. 15 points lead to Geelong.
  10. Goal to Cats on the siren. Half time: Casey Scorpions 2.10.22 to Geelong 6.6.42 Goals: Martin, Spencer
  11. Finally another goal to Stefan Martin on the run.
  12. Casey 1.10.16 to Geelong 5.6.36 Kicking for goal is reminiscent of Collingwood last night.
  13. Big Jake kicks the Scorps first goal for the year from a free kick at 14 minute mark of the 2 nd quarter. Casey 1.5.11 to Geelong 4.6.30
  14. Quarter Time: Cats 2.5.17 Scorpions 0.5.5 Scorpions struggling to kick goals in a low scoring game. Cats getting numbers to the ball and in control. Watts is playing and doing OK. Difficult to answer all queries as iphone keeps disconnecting. Colin Garland is not in the side and therefore the logical first emergency for tomorrow's game at the G.
  15. Cats get the jump. Geelong 2.3.15 to Casey 0.4.4 Martin has kicked 2 behinds for the Scorpions.

  17. Thanks to some of my spies from down at Geelong, the Cats' side has now been updated. It doesn't look anywhere near as formidable as the original published side which had 17/18 AFL listed players.
  18. A big welcome to up to half a dozen possible "newcomers" to the Casey Scorpions line up. Five VFL listed players could be making their debuts tomorrow night plus another who had one game last year as a TAC Cup "guest" under the 23rd player rule: * Cam Purdy 20.06.1989 191cm 90kg (East Ringwood) - comes to the club with a very good reputation in the eastern suburban competition as a versatile key position player. * Mitch Dowse 24.09.1991 176cm 77kg (Heyfield) - slippery customer from Gippsland Power who had one game for Casey last year as a 23rd player. * Matt Fieldsend 14.12.1985 178cm 79kg (De La Salle) - shared the honours last year for VAFA A Section best and fairest (with a De La Salle teammate!). * McDonald Luke 29.04.1990 195cm 92kg (Eastern Ranges) - key position forward from Eastern Ranges who led the 2009 TAC Cup goalkicking. * Danny Nicholls 02.03.1987 177cm 80kg (Rowville) - former Collingwood listed player who has impressed as a busy small over the pre season. * Plummer Ricky 11.06.1991 175cm 73kg (Peninsula Grammar/Mount Eliza) - clever small man could force his way into the team for round 1.

  22. This is from this week's edition of Inside Football CASEY SCORPIONS Coach: Bradley Gotch (first year, replaces Peter German) Last year: 10-8, beaten in elimination final. In: Scott Simpson (Geelong), Danny Nicholls, Luke McDonald (Eastern Ranges), Matt Lillie (Old Haileybury), Matt Fieldsend (De La Salle), Mitch Dowse (Gippsland Power), Will Petropoulos (Dandenong Stingrays) Out: Peter Faulks, Alex Silvagni, James Blaser, Gareth Snow, Nick Scanlon The skinny: The bashing of their inspirational captain and wingman Kyle Matthews two weeks ago unsettled the Scorpions after a splendid pre-season. His head injuries (fractured skull, swelling of the brain) will require constant observation and will presumably keep him out of football for some time. But forget about Matthews the player; Casey is more concerned about Matthews the young man. If there's a coach who can exert calm and a sense of perspective in such a situation, its Bradley Gotch. The little fellow is back at the club he coached to a premiership (in its Springvale guise) after the surprise walk-out of 2009 VFL coach of the year Peter German. His departure created uncertainty for a few weeks, but Gotch and outgoing football manager Craig Lees managed to hold the bulk of the squad together. The loss of Silvagni and Faulks leaves a hole in the backline, although Tim Mohr and Glenn Chivers did enough in the pre-season to suggest they could fill it. Simpson ought be a game-turning key forward once he's fit, Nicholls adds dash to the midfield and Ben MacReadie and Michael Stockdale, so busy last season, should be better in their second years. A greater Melbourne influence would help, but the Demons seem to specialise in serious injuries. Despite the doubt on Matthews, the Scorpions have enough good players to figure in the finals.
  23. While I can't give you the score I can say that Casey won by a few goals. The game was a reasonable hit out for the Casey players with the mood among them a bit sombre because of the viscious attack on their skipper earlier in the week. The Scorpions face a tough game first up next Saturday night under lights v Geelong. They had a slow start last year and will be keen to win for their skipper.
  24. The Casey Scorpions have issued the following updated statement on their website: http://www.scorpions.com.au/
