  1. Simple the MCG is not a training base for us. therefore we should be looking at developing whatever will give us the best facilities as a training base and location for long term success. <edit> currently the direction is for casey as a summer location, but is it possible that an all year round venue like this proposal is better?
  2. correct, i think the biggest threat would be if the NRL and ARU merged and only played union in a real super league.
  3. you've missed the point, we wont play games at this new dockland development rather using it as a training base for us. Just because we have re-alligned with the MCC doesn't mean we have a training base at the MCG.
  4. just to clarify he was talking about a residential development with parklands attached to an open air oval with basket ball type stadium(s) attached, not another indoor football stadium. Makes good sense.
  5. not at all, what we are going though now will make the taste of future success all that more sweet. Just hope it doesn't take too long!
  6. I was listening to SEN last night and were interviewing a councillor from Melbourne city re Princess Park and Carltank. At the end of it the issue of a Home for the MFC came up out of no where and he suggested a hawthorne type training base instead of a 2nd stadium has his support. I have been a big advocate of the casey move for a summer camp but if this could be a better long term result for the club? A ground, and "facilities" which i would have to read into - indoor stadium for training, presume pool, gym etc. Would save many hrs in cars and assist recovery as well. Worth exploring IMHO
  7. in the last 5 years I would have missed max 2-3 home games and still got one, so cant see that being correct. HT great potential cost saver though, maybe ask the club for 5% of the savings!
  8. reading b/w the lines this is a done deal unless somebody else puts their hands up.
  9. the club would have still existed for three years even though they were not competing. therefore irrelevant!
  10. Does it matter, you could argue for either date and still we celebrated our 150th year last year? correct me if I am wrong but we formed a year before the rules were nutted out (1858) and we played our 1st game v geelong in 1859 a year later? No proof of this but this is my understanding of how it was all started.
  11. Does Anyone have the jumper numbers for our guys on Sunday that are playing?
  12. nothing but the filth doing a dodgey, got caught and we said thankyou very much! can't wait until he kicks a winning goal against them!
  13. standard SMS = 20c 30,500x0.2=6k. I hope this is worth it!
  14. as a power forward yes, but as a mid especially inside mid = N/A
  15. so your happy for the club to hemerage money at the G which we will v port at this time of year, when there is a solution to still play the game in melbourne at another venue and maybe even turn a profit?
  16. I feel the same re docklands. however I really believe that especially this year and in this case the club is bigger then us the individuals. therefore if the club doesn't bleed like HT said, I'm happy to sit in the nose bleed. I would almost guarrantee that any reserved seat member like us will at minimum have a reserved area level 1 and maybe lv2(premium) for the day. If so the atmospher will be good. Not happy but will learn to live with it provided OUR club is looked after financially for the move.
  17. Agreed, surely more rumor then fact at this point. This is one thing the club has done well in recient times, keeping big annoucements quite until they happen. Maybe now that they are not allowed to criticize the afl the need news fillers just like the melb/nth merger. Would love to know their source
  18. Sheedy's supercoach big tip today = Grimes. Word is starting to get around, still a big chance for the rising star this year!
  19. Brad miller is my biggest concern. We need him for the next 5 years and as soon as JW+LJ+..... start coming through miller will only get better. It would be a sad day if we lost the big #7. He is a chance of being captain up there if he wanted it assuming no stars are enticed up north. tall power forwards are hard to come by and GC17 would jump at getting an established one.
  20. I am and have been a big fan of wheels for a long time. How ever I find his inclusion this week a little supprising, has his form with casey warrented the selection? Like I said I'm a big fan but understand he is not apart of our side in 3yrs time when we are hopefully pushing for a flag. Might have thought Mcnamara may have squeezed in for his 1st after a reported good game last out vs coburg?
  21. I wonder if he is being put in cotton wool for next year and allow him to develop further at VFL?
  22. I can't believe that there are those who are only concerned about not having their precious reserved seat for an MCG game. NEWS FLASH - if poor attendances continue we won't be watching these games live at all. refer Hawks + launceston. As a reserved seat member i am more then happy for the game to be moved provided no loss is sustained by the club. It is hardly a game that we will be struggling to find a seat so effectively we will be able to sit just about anywhere for free as MFC members. There is always a members reserve for these games that will be on the wing lvl 1 so i can't see what the issue is. I do feel sorry for MCC members as they are always the forgotten ones, however any that have MFC afiliated memberships should be given same entry and seating as all reserved seat members. Those that have not paid the small MFC-MCC members price SHOULD MISS OUT!
  23. winning 4.5-7 games this year is the worst possible result. 8-10 and a winning culture starts. 4 wins = the biggest prize finishing outside of the top 4. sitting with one win at this stage means that 8 wins is effectively out of reach therefore we have to have a target for the rest of the year i.e., <4.5 wins. Honourable losses like sunday will just do us fine. I could even accept a 1 goal loss v the filth for the greater good. I think penciling in freo for a win at the G is a little prem as they are a lot better then most give them credit. the freo+westcoast+rich games may well go down as reason(s) to change rules for future years ala collingwood's effort a few years ago. Therefore it is the next 2 months we have to look forward to, the MFC will have a real crack at upsetting the apple cart in the middle of the year before putting us out to stud in the top paddock for the rest of the season. I would not be supprised to see rich give us a touch up like we did to carltank in the crusier cup. likewise freo and westcoast will both have more then 4 wins by this stage therefore will have a lot more to play for in terms of winning. Then the real stuff starts for us!
