  1. I was also impressed with Stef Martin up forward. Like the look of that.

This is something that Many others and myself have been calling for, for a long time. I had to look twice after half time when he was lining up deep in the forward line. He was easily in the best for the forwards for the 1/2 he played. WCE have only 1 power forward which warnok/rivers would get 1st IMO anyway therefore give him a full game there next week and see what happens.

Great to see DB finally starting to throw the side around a little. Martin has one of the strongest set of hands in the side and hopefully can start to read the game a bit better and really put his mark on the side as a forward/occasional defender!

  2. Forget his disposal for a minute.

Many times he got it under increadable pressure with no support. Even in a game where there were many geelong players fumbling maric was a one touch player all day.

If only we had more of them!

Definately back next week for me. Couldn't have another day by foot like this, we all have a lot to look forward to in maric.

  3. "Their break even point is 12K, and off a crowd of 25K the GFC make a profit of 650,000 clean."

That's even more impressive than I thought. By my calcs, under that deal, we would have made $100k with our 14k crowd.

Interesting that this all of a sudden was on the radio last night. Another interesting fact is that GFC are prepared to give a plain stadium (no sponsor signage, empty corporate) etc. so the potential is extreemly high for a good profit for any one want to "use" the ground

  4. I failed to see the humour in that monty.......if in fact it was a joke. There is already alot of p****d off people with respect to what's happened to Blease.

No Joke, same source that was wrong about the valenti elivation, They were right about the PW LTI. I take big offence to what has happened by being sensered. Why is the blease post not blocked. Lift your game admin!

  5. 20000 at the 'G and we lose money.

20000 at Shell Stadium and the Cats make $500,000. Thats the difference between having a good stadium deal and a bad one.

hence why even if it was 50/50 thats still a min 250k per game more a year the club gets then now. As a member I would have no issue paying an extra $5-10 for access to a members area/reserved seat at geelong for a couple of games ala the old Dome deal.

  6. I actually like the Umpires being miked up. It gives me an indication as to what thought process was going through the umpires mind.

Can't agree, I get angry enough at silly decisions, yes #17 I'm still talking about you!, without having these muppets trying to explain why. Simple you made a decsion and you don't need to justify it. In rugby you don't get that player ref interaction, only captain ref interaction if it is done right and if a player does in the wrong way they can even be sent off. Make the disciplin of the players all that better IMO.

I agree, no numbers, no mikes, hopefully not noticed and they have done the job they are paid to do. Go Jeff has my support on this one! The media has a lot to blame for drumming these guys up IMO as well.

  7. I wished Princes Park would still be an option. I used to love going down there for the odd Melbourne game. We had one of the best records of all teams there in this decade - 4 wins out of 5. We actually played better footy at Optus than at the G, in my opinion.

I couldn't believe all those nuffy Melbourne supporters refused to attend our home matches there in 2002 even though a win was on the cards.

I'd be happy for them to play 2 Princes Park games a year, as long as the break-even crowd was 8-10,000.

I'll take it the step forward. If a ground such as casey/ballarat/show grounds is not developed I would rather us play in geelong then canberra etc. I really believe this is better for the long term of developing local supporter bases etc. Geelong have a perfect stadium for these small games and I'm sure would be happy to discuss a mutually benificial arrangements with clubs such as us, nth and the doggies. I can't believe the AFL have not used geelong as a bargening tool vs the mcc and docklands for better deals for clubs. This in my opinion should happen as of next year for the sml interstate games.

  8. I can't believe this has turn in to a what can garry do?

Simple he has one of the heaviest media schedules around so currently I am lead to believe he does plenty behind the sceens.

A couple have touched on it but I really believe the one we need is Todd Viney. Make no mistake he has been insperational in getting the hawks to a flag as fitness coach? He is the one we need. Tough hard in and under midfield, who better to mold them physically?

But really I think if you look over the modern era most success has been found from outside of clubs.

    Eg Malthouse, Sheedy, Matthews.

I can't believe there have been links with GL and the snr job. Simple wont happen. Would have been happy 3yrs ago for it to have happened though

  9. Now Now Now, Maxwell. You might be Captain of the Filth, but don't let it go to your head.

Collingwood has played Adelaide, Melbourne (hardly ruck competition), Geelong (Otten-less), Brisbane (almost ruckless) and Essendon (Hille-less). So Fraser hasn't been up against much to be honest. Yet he also got spanked by Ryder in the Anzac match.

    Is that All-Australian form?

I think young Nick has the blinkers on. He's obviously unaware of the likes of Jolly, Cox and Co.

I think he has been in all aust form - the big dud to play for the opals!

  10. who would be able to stop the 2009 Brownlow Medalist ( early call i know) this Sunday, is there anyone who would be able to lessen his impact.

either danny green or Mundine. Problem is ablett has an ability to get straight up.

I really think don't put a heavy tag on anyone from geelong rather attack the ball carrier and pressure their disposal, allowing us to concentrate on our game and be as damaging as possible when geelong dont have it. If we go in negative with tags on selwood, ablett, bartel, etc etc we will get smashed by 100pts like late last year.

  11. Tippet didn't seem to have too much trouble late in the game kicking from a reasonable distance out wind or no wind?

luck, and I think the wind dropped a bit in the last as well.

There was a ball kicked well in front of us that should have traveled at least 50m up the wing to adelaide HF. The wind got it and turned it 20m inside towards the centre and dropped about 3o mtrs away. There would have been times on sun that nobody could have kicked goals. I'm not defending juices accuracy especially that "banana" he tried but really adelaide kicked some really lucky goals from 40+ that could have easily missed due to the conditions. Likewise we missed some from closer that could have been a bit luckier and gone through and who knows.

Going into this season MN was seen as one of our best shots on goal, I wonder what has changed? (CONFIDENCE!)

  12. We'll be 1-10 at halfway. If we were to win one, I'd like it to be against the Pies............and in much the same fashion as the Bombers did on Saturday. Would make my season.

    Close,

I would prefer it to be from a real dodgy double 50m penalty from mouthing off say dids or Rocca with 5 sec to go. Give em something to whinge about for a while! They might even start to eat their own!

  13. whoa.......the reason we have never had this insight before, is we don't need it, a lot of the posters on here have watched football for a long time and can pick a player who is not up to AFL standard,

I try not to bag players out of hand but even to me Newton has no bottle, he needs to throw himself into it, he probably has more skill than Miller but not the grunt,

if we could mix both we might get a decent forward, I like Miller though and we need him in the team, he will be a good foil for Watts who in the couple of things I have seen him in, at least attacks the game,

the coaching staff probably see Newton do things at training and can see the potential, but when the heat of the game comes along he wilts...........anyone who has played competitive sport knows that's what it means you have to compete.you do not have to have a degree in trick cycling to know that........as I have previously stated not being of giant stature I had to compensate with my competitiveness.........a broken ankle, wrist, shoulder, two knee operations, cracked ribs, and sundry other injuries show that at least I was in there.........on Sunday Newton left the field without a hair out of place.

to quote a good friend of mine...

Trains like tarzan, plays like jane!

Hardness at the ball is all I ask. Create the contest - Ala Miller and most would be happy. You don't have to be fancy just do the hard work even if there is no chance of getting the ball. hit packs hard, put your body on the line, make a tacke, chase hard, lay a bump or shepard etc etc. Then worry about kicking goals.

The issue with juice from where I sit seems to be if it is not dished up on a silver platter (lace out on the chest) he becomes a liability. Surely this is something that can easily be addressed off field. Or is he just seen as a stop gap filler until others come through by the club and time is not being spent? I really wonder how much time has been spent by the coaching staff with juice v say watts/jurrah this year? It would be very interesting to know. I for one hope that he is not dropped for the game v geelong on sun even if robbo is fit. We might as well play him until watts and/or jurrah are ready for regular snr football. Who knows we might get something out of him or something for him from QC17 if he starts playing a better brand of footy.

  14. To my supprise the reserved seat area on sunday was quite full. Well done to all who turned up. Just a shame that the game let the die hards down. Still I can't remember a game where a side kicks its first goal well into the 3rd Q and suddenly gets a snif? Adelaide should be ashamed for the way they deliberately put numbers behind the ball when they won a turn over. Deliberate chipping backwards to set up against a full flood. I suspect they were using the MFC as a training run against a heavey flood.

One thing is for sure we don't need to worrie about geelong doing this next sunday.

  15. I'll be honest. Me and my mates were sitting in the MCC right at the front on the 50 metre arc. At one stage in the second half when he was near us, had the ball uncontested with noone near him just standing there waiting for an option to kick to, me and a mate took it in turns yelling 'CHRIS BROWN'. Not sure some people posting here will get it, but it was good fun, and it resulted in a turnover that lead to a goal for us. So I believe we are owed some thanks for setting that play up and putting him/Adelaide off their game momentarily!

I am for one proud of the effort the dee's army put up on sunday against adealide. Showed some passion etc. I can promise where we sit ST coped plenty as well. A supporters line was fantastic... Scotty T had just been dumped in a big tackle by maybe bennell or jetta and got up complained to the ump. silence followed by.....

"You left your handbag lying on the ground as well thompson you girl. Go and stand next to your mate bock and see if he treats you the same as his Girl Friend!"

    GOLD!

  16. Anybody on this forum that says that Morton was a better pick than Palmer at number 4 has obviously got very little footy knowledge.

Do you actually watch footy or just look at supercoach stats??? Youve got to be kidding!! Everytime Palmer gets the ball he butchers it. He went into his first season with a mature body ready for afl. He has not and will not get any better than last year. Imo same as Daniel Rich hence him going at no.7 as well. If your after a ready made player Palmer and Rich were it. Morton is a totally different player, shape and size. He is going to take longer to develope and will be better than both of them. His football knowledge and disposal is already better than theirs. At least he takes a bit of time to size up the situation than just putting it on his boot and letting the next bloke deal with it.

Cale Morton will be a star for our club. While he is fit and willing he should play snr footy. Maybe if he is a bit stale, give him a break later in the year for someone like strauss or blease when they are ready. A lot of water to go under a few bridges first though. ATM I would rate morton in the top 5 players at the club. Not so much a refelction on CM as much as the rest of the list. As a player his value (descision making, hardness etc) should double in the next few years. Much to look forward to.

  17. Petterd & Davey, It's great to see these two step up further.

Frawls has taken his first step @ this level.

Meesen has retrieved the lost ground last season & is encouraging so far.

Moloney, welcome back, with better use.

This years team, would beat last years team by 40 odd points.

I said 10 goals better at the start of the season and right now I still hold to that. Although this sunday v geelong should be a good indicator.

Spot on re the players that have taken a step forward. Add to that Bennell and Jetta that had their best games in the last 2 weeks. Maric, Grimes, Strauss, Watts and maybe blease all to get thier go as well this year. Plenty to still look forward to.

  18. I rated Adelaide until yesterday. They were good against St Kilda and Geelong for most of the matches. But they were awful yesterday. Crap game plan, poorly executed. With horrible opposition they only managed 7 goals, two of which came in 1 minute. But at least they won.

Last night it was almost impossible to kick a goal at either end outside of 40m due to the wind. I think we kicked 1 and they kicked 5 or 6 from memmory. Very lucky to win that game crows. Very luckey indeed, we out scored them, out bodied them.

I'm glade that everybody else gave that "CRIMINAL" Bock what he deserved. What a big man, can belt his wife but never once looked like taking on miller. COWARD comes to mind!

  19. I actually believe adelaide had much of the blame for the 1st half. Just about every time they won the ball on half back they chipped backwards to setup an 18 man zone. Then player like rutten and the other bloke who due to his action outside the game deservese no mention played keeping off. Just a shame we could not finish otherwise I really thought we were nearly a 5 goal better team then the crows today!

Not sure why we are concerned about 14.5k turning up as this was apart of the payout we recieved from the MCC/AFL this year.

All up I went away from the game quite happy with the loss (15 to go), and 10 or 12 MFC players clearly as good or better then their crow opponents. Bennell had his best game for the club and our midfield continues to improve. Our backline was great, frawley also had his best game and is starting to look like a snr player.

  20. All the MCG seating is letters M=Lvl 1, N=Lvl 2, P=Lvl 2A Q=Lvl 3.

Yeah it's at the Dome where there is Lvl 1 Section 21 or something like that.

Anyway I think that's a good idea for smaller games for Melbourne members, rather than sitting in General admission if they don't have a reserved seat.

I think Hawthorn members have some reserved thing there.

Got a feeling the "M" reserved seats might be sit anywhere seats this week anyway especially undercover! Hope the new MFC Jacket does the job out in the open though!

  21. maric has to play in these conditions and drop juice. he would be shocking in the wet me thinks.

i said the same before on another thread. The only thing is if I remember correctly one of the best games juice played for us was agianst geelong last year in the wet under lights. Kicked one of the best goals from the pocket you'll ever see. I seem to think he did a few other good things too but can't say for sure. but I do agree Maric in. maybe leave him picked and maric as an emergency to keep the crows guessing and put maric in last minute before the game. Juice gets a bout of the windy hill flu that DB has brought with him!

  22. It was great to see the form of Miller and Newton on the weekend against less than spectacular opponents. But this week Rutten will probably go to Newton and Bock will go to Miller. Tough assignments for both. Miller will be under the spotlight more given his form and Newton did enough to draw attention to himself.

How these guys play will be a barometer for the result of the game and also an indication as to where each of them are at in their careers. A big test for both!

Last week yes, this week no. 14 deg, rain, hail etc. If either of these talls have any impact we will be lucky. I have a feeling newton may be left out for maric at the last minute so we are a bit smaller and more mobile for the wet? Well at least thats what I would do
