  1. BTW, Hughes is not competing with Jetta for a position.

for the rest of this season I think the reference is valid. Why would have we re-rookied him if the club did not see a potential snr player this year. now that being the case I would see him as a sml-mid sized forward. Currently Wona out, leaving pettard, jetta, robbo and maric. Robbo is robbo so no go there, Pettard is filing in as a tall so strike his name out leaving Jetta and maric. Therefore if hughes has snr asperations he needs to go ahead of both of these guys.

Anyway you agreed with my point so I dont see the need for the reference.

I knew I'd get an answer!

But seriously ignore all stats from sunday, the work he did off the ball and the way he presented and continued to prestent all day was as good/better as most of our snr forwards. A big engine to keep doing it all day and never looked too bad when he came off. This was in a game that was well likened to an u9's scrap where all forwards struggle to have any influance on the game - IMHO being no expert on the matter.

After sunday I am looking more forward to hopefully seeing hughes in the red + blue. If you get a chance pop down and have a look at him, based on sundays game I'm sure you'll like what you see. Nothing better then a forward on a big lead demanding the pill, with a thumping right foot! I see him as a really difficult player to match up on because of his pace and not short either from memory, up around the 190 mark

  2. Unless they are going to select him in the MFC side then why would they elevate a player?

Hughes is not close to selection at the moment.

RR did you watch the game on sunday out of interest? if so there must have been two different Hughes out there? I agree no point elevating any player unless they are really pushing for a snr spot.

He dominated parts of the Coburg game too.

I get the feeling I'm not on my own here. He was a mile ahead of even jetta on sunday. Strong hands, fast, ran all day, continued to present, thumping right foot, I think we could do a lot worse if this continues. Time will tell

  3. Two entirely different players are they not. Bell doesn't have the dogged persistence which Bartram displays week after week.Just can't picture Bell as an effective tagger.

I agree with another poster, that Bartram should NEVER be entrusted with the kickouts

or should he be taking every one for the rest of the year?

  4. Agree whole-heartedly his age and the fact hes been re drafted means this is the year for him to stand up

I thought Hughes had a red hot go on Sunday. If he backs up in the next few weeks maybe the mid season spot is his. I like the idea of holding out and challenging them as a group to win the next spot and not just hand them out because their availiable.

  5. You can be skinny, but still be strong, Muscle mass is a little miss leading. Over the next couple of years regardless if he puts on Weight he will get stronger and more confident in close. His long kicking on the run is fantanstic but the short kick that he balloons up over 20-25m is something he has to work on. His kicking his funny 40m+ his kicks seems to have good height and speed but his short kicks seem to be slow and take for ever to get where it is meant to be going.

Sign him this week to a three year deal

Just keeps getting better every game he plays. Even starting to win the odd hard ball get each week!

  6. nobody seems to be talking about dropping Bate this week. Very strange. I think i'd do a swap, Bate for Green. Put green in the forward six to play on Hodge. Not only does he have the run and defensive skills to shut him down, but he is a legitimate scoring threat.

This has to be a joke post?

Bate = Best forward by 2 straights on SAT. Room for both. But good work its taken 2 days for somebody to get into him.

Green onto hodge would work if hodge was to play. They might play on each other 10 rows back on the HFF.

  7. I have tingles on my spine just thinking about Sunday night.

Sure, it's a twilight game. Sure, it doesn't suit me.

But I wouldn't miss it for the world.

If we knock over the Hawks it would be EPIC.

Just about end of season for them, and the way we went about it on sat through the middle who knows?

Could be hailing and 5deg and I'll still be there.

  8. After a weekend of footy which do you find more depressing?

At first glance it seems like a straightforward query, however taking pp's into consideration and the fact that JW is the messiah it's actually a tough one.

    STOP THE PRESS,

A 17yr/old WAS NOT BOG in a tough contest?

WHAT RUBBISH, not worthy of a vote!

  9. What do we have to do to get our supporters to the game. It was Saturday, the weather was good (albeit they did forecast rain) and the team was a chance after last week. I watched Jimmy look around the stands whilst waiting for the team to come out and I could feel his pain. Even after texting the members to come and they still don't turn up. It is frustrating for us who do turn up but what must it be like to Jimmy who has put his life on hold to build up the club. Against Hawthorn it is going to be worse. It is no good whingeing about the twilight game etc etc. The team need to know that they have support. They need to hear that support and if all they hear is a whimper well if the club gets to that precipice again we will all know why. Why does Collingwood still get its members to turn up despite it playing woeful football. We don't have to act like bogan scum members but some of us could learn a lesson in being passionate about our team and that means turn up whether it is a twilight game rain, hail or shine. JUST TURN UP.

    here here,

I had a good look around as well waiting for the teams to run out. Guess what - Reserved members seats in both sthern and nthern stand on the ground were lucky to be 30% full. Thats our problem people! it is these members that are good enough to buy memberships but never turn up. On sat I was glad to see 4 seats behind us full (1st time in 3yrs), hang on they were doggies supporters! I can't understand the selfishness of buying a reserved seat and never using it, thus locking another member out of this seat. DISCRACEFUL!

The sooner a members reserve is opened the better!

So to all those fairweathers who didn't turn up on sat = suffer, you missed a great performance and get used to more sunday games next year.

  10. I think its a valid tactic and we'd actually be remiss to leave those players on the ground.

Leaving the player on the ground only invites a rollercoaster type performance when we should be seeking consistency

    Mid field yes agree,

but forwards, especially KPF's if they are dominating leave them out there. Miller nearly got us over the line v WCE, had have he been taken off after his first we may have been run over the weagles.

  11. interesting point. But grimes also didnt play well in his last game at casey, yet he got promoted and he seemed to go okay. I saw both the reserves and the seniors today and unfortunately there were no highlights. Bells tackling was really really good...that was the best highlight. Jurrah, Watts and Strauss all did nothing...and I mean nothing. Even Jordie Mckenzie had a disappointing game.

Well called freak, one point I would make on watts from yesterday was his defensive pressure was good. Tried hard but struggled to make an impact from a very, very, very scrappy game. Only those hard in + under players and jamar had any impact. It was one of the worst games of footy I have watched in a long time, I actually think the 2's was a better game to watch even though casey got smashed. At least there were clean passages of play to watch.

I actually thought jamar was close to best as he was the difference in the 1st 3Q especially his marking and around the ground work. Its to be noted he spent a lot of the last on the pine when the game was there to be won. Huges's opening 10min was fantastic, thumping kick and presented all day. Could be a find. Jetta tried hard all day but his disposal let him down a bit. Strauss had a shocker for his 1st game and spent a lot of time on the pine but moves well and should get a lot better. Buckley also looked very rusty but should improve, on a side note he has really bulked up as well. I doubt we will see any changes this week unless they are forced. maybe bell has earned a spot down back but anyone from the snrs would be stiff to miss. jamar did enough as well but myself personally would like to see him have another week to get more miles especially with how PJ is playing atm.

    the 2's....

Made the treck down early just to have a look at LJ and strauss if he missed on the snrs.

Jurrah is a long way off. Great skill but defensively he makes newton look like a star. A lot of work to do, he constantly seemed to be wondering around in no mans land after a contest almost lost. However he did present very well on the odd occasions casey had a clean run into the forward line.

The other really disapointing thing from yesterday was spencer in the ruck in the 2's. Fail to impose himself at all and at times just didn't work hard enough off the ball. I hope he watched jamar's game in the snrs. Zomer+Healy were both good without being great, but hard to judge them in a side that was getting smashed in the middle.

  12. not long after that, a doggies player took a dive on our HHF trying to get an in the back or high free kick, was tackled didn't get it out and suprise suprise ball up. That was the icing on the cake from those yellow @#$%ers.

Voice box is still very sore. even cold frothies havent helped!

  13. EDIT: Apparently he's just said he wants to stay at the club until they win a premiership...

I'm not sure how he would go with a walking frame! Their window is closing, they will loose their best forwards in the next couple of years. He would be better at MFC, we will win a flag before them!

  14. correct me if I am wrong but when players are drafted they are given a standard 2yr deal.

Therefore he is out at the end of this year and not next year so the only way GC17 can get is if we trade or only sign him for 1 yr. I can't see either happening. He will get a 3-4yr deal before the year is out.

  15. To win or not to win, that is the question.

We have the most exciting group of young players and add the next 2 best in the land at the end of the year and we will be a new super power!

The crowd was by far the most dissapointing part of today. Lot of empty reserved seats again. No excuses today people the weather was fine and no aus kick. POOR

  16. Ah! Rightio. Is this the one that we'd potentially share with Victory and Storm? Or was that another plan? I'm horribly informed on this topic. The reason I even bothered posting was that I was thinking the thread meant the Dome itself.

    OK.

The MC Counceller was talking about a totally new development and used hawthorns training base at waverly as a model. Residential property right up to the edge of the sporting complex.

the "bubble dome" is where the victory and storm are and this would be a seperate entity to this in the docklands area which has a lot of empty space at this time
