I completely agree, particularly with your point around the lack of opportunity to demonstrate if he can (or can’t) perform at AFL standard/level. It’s a pretty damning notion, especially when you compare it to other players who are played week in, week out.

Reportedly there’s another Melbourne based club very interested in him. Suspect he’ll get another gig. It’s a great example of a lack of selection integrity though, on our behalf.

Personally, I don’t really see the attraction to State of Origin footy, in an AFL context. Potentially, it’s because I was pretty young when the last ‘genuine’ SoO game was played in 1999, but I just don’t see the appeal. I love the NRL product and rivalry, it’s definitely something to behold, but in my limited exposure to it, it’s just never really translated my interest in terms of the AFL product. If it’s back, it’s back. I wouldn’t exactly say it’s a bugbear of mine, but it doesn’t hold any romance or drive any childhood nostalgia or affinity.

Agreed. I find it surprising some have been very quick to trivialise his abilities and place in the side, seemingly in light of him going back west. He's also one of the only users of the ball that I regularly have full confidence in, something we're sorely lacking in totality.

I also think it’s absolutely up for discussion if his traditional role, impacts the contemporary game. For mine, I’m not so certain it does; and yes, that is even with acknowledging his injuries if people want to push that down my throat.

We’ve actually chosen one of the worst times to regenerate our list, given the (likely) introduction of Tassie and the subsequent draft concessions. I’m not saying for a moment we shouldn’t be brave, bold and decisive (think Richmond last season), but the likelihood of having to deal with multiple compromised drafts will make our regeneration all the more difficult. I’m inclined to suggest we need to bring in multiple second rounders and nail later draft picks, in order to have genuine and competitive depth and talent.

Nothing like some of the ol’ Demonland Cheer Squad reverse onus, hey?
