  2. But the counter argument is that the 'bigger' Vic clubs will pull a bigger crowd v Geelong at the MCG than the 'smaller' Vic clubs. E.g Collingwood/Essendon/Carlton/Richmond v Geelong at the MCG; will bring a bigger crowd than; Melbourne/Nth Melb/Western Bulldogs/St Kilda v Geelong at the MCG
  3. I agree OD, we need tall forwards to hit the score board in finals but I also think we probably only need 3-4 goals that way to be successful. Those goals could come from any combination of Brown, Weid, JVR, Gawn or Jackson. If we can get that I'd be confident we can find 8-10 from other avenues. 11 - 14 goals will be enough if we are at our best defensively
  4. Agree with many on here. I like the thought of experimenting with either Tomlinson or Petty forward and this is probably the week to do it under the roof at Marvel and against a side with a history of struggling defensively.

LH, agree lifting those guys out of Perth might be a challenge, but they don't need them all to shift. 1 or 2 will do the trick, $$$ talks as does loyalty (in respect to staying and leaving for shared benefit, where applicable - think Isaac Smith & maybe Dusty at the end of this year). Regarding interest, in my view, Barrass and/or McGovern to the Bulldogs would meaningfully reinsert them into premiership calculations (just one example...)
  6. WCE has a better pot of gold for us I feel, if LJ was to leave. LJ is young enough that the Eagles could afford to spend 3 - 5 years building around him. History tells us they've been a lot more efficient than that rebuilding teams in the past. If the eagles are realistic about rebuilding with honesty, they'd be looking to improve the draft positioning by offloading some players that may have value to other teams, thinking McGovern, Yeo, Darling, Sheed, Barrass, Gaff (for example). Packaging some of those guys could net them a bounty of picks, to add to the likely No. 1 they get this year and another top 5 pick next year.

  8. Agree. In fact it almost surely was. But i also take on face value that they've both manned up, admitted they've made major mistakes and have buried the hatchet. If you've read Max's diary from last year he spent quite a time describing the way the whole club has tried to lift the way they talk to eachother. With more respect and less denigration. He says its still not perfect but it's a lot better, and he referenced that in the press conference today. The whole club has matured, a lot, this is a setback no doubt, but also a teaching moment. Let's see what they do with it...

  14. What May said is brutal but in my view not something a reasonably well adjusted adult and father should consider punchworthy. Particularly when that somebody is supposedly a close mate. Bizarre and I suspect more to it than just that sledge. Hope I am wrong and for now will assume I am.
  15. Great video, enjoyed watching that immensely. I remember DC bursting onto the scene and then fizzing out pretty quickly but I am too young to recall any details. Why is it that he didn't last and go on to have a lengthy career? Also, how good was the barrell from big Darren B, an NFL audition piece right there.

  17. That is a bizarre tweet from sayers. Quizzical human from the limited amount I've seen. That said I also the blues have got some potential to rise. Walsh, McKay & weitering are outstanding. Need a better game plan and some pace through the middle will be competitive week in week out, at the very least.

  19. Saints second best in terms of coaches votes! It really is bizarre they'd let him walk. Definitely could've attracted something in return the Saints, maybe not from us, but from someone. Seems like very good fortune for the Dees
  20. Great pick up. Puts a stack of pressure on JJ and Sparrow to grow and secure their positions long term. The quality and commitment of the blokes picked 20-28 are what drives the quality of 16-22. If there's little pressure coming from underneath, e.g. players likely to steal your spot if you perform poorly players could become complacent. This was definitely a factor this year, Sparrow, JJ, LJ, Rivers, Spargo they just didn't want to lose their spots to Jones, Hibberd, Melksham, Jetta, Weideman etc.
  21. Fritsch more than just A grade goalkicker for mine. Hands are elite, in the air and on the ground and rarely if ever loses his feet. Almost like a cat, even when jumping at the high ball often finds a way to land on his feet and stay in the contest. His goal in the third where Max inadvertantly spoiled his marking attempt a prime example. Also can be quite elusive with the ball in hand in general play. Tackling not a strength and I will admit he looks more A grade with both BB and TMac in the side allowing him to get the third defender, but you can only beat who you're up against (most of the time). .
  22. Toumpas a big miss. Could have gone Wines i think. Hundreds of stories like that I know, but the fact that Ollie and Jack are best mates & Todd Viney was in the footy department makes it worse
  23. Agree Rocky. He's pretending that he actually analyses anything and puts names in columns knowing that only fans of the team , or real footy heads, will know any better. The vast majority of readers won't care. Langdon and Gus are great, but not A grade for mine. Neither is Viney IMO. Fritsch definitely A grade.

  25. Pretty much every move the football department has made in recent years, whether players, picks or both (in or out) have netted a positive outcome. Very proud to say they've earned our confidence and justified their salaries! .
