2015 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
IvanBartul13 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
The academy bidding is going to be extremely interesting this year. GWS have 8 or 9 and Wagner looked terrific from the Brisbane academy. Looked close to first round quality in addition to Keays and Hipwood who they will want too. -
Delistings/trades at end of the season

Realistically, to get Bennell youd have to give our first rounder and Howe in all likelihood. -
Almost certainly would have taken Lewis Taylor. Would be nice to have Daniel McStay but I don't think it's possible to argue with any effect that trading for Vince was anything other than a masterstroke/best practice.

Dom Barry talks about giving up footy

Funny thing is there is a likelihood Goodes' would have struggled through school in Darwin, ostracised by the full bloods and obviously morally unable to to mesh with the white students -

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 12

6. Bernie Vince - I think there is a fair case to be made that he is the second best player in the comp at the moment. 5. Max Gawn - a colossus in the first half, probably the best individual half by a Demon in a decade, before a solid second half. 4. Lynden Dunn - solid down back and neutralised what could have been Geelong's match-winner 3. Nathan Jones - very good ball-winning game 2. Jack Viney - applied himself brilliantly in his job on Selwood, who by slipping off the leash a few times drops Viney down a vote or two. 1. Angus Brayshaw - terrific half-forward/midfield hybrid game. Unfortunately the flaws in this voting system are exposed following this game, whereby Garlett, Tyson, Matt Jones, Watts and others would have got high votes in other games for their performances today but cant squeeze in today and Jack Vineys game worthy of a 6 in some weeks. One wonders whether in future seasons if we cant give a score out of 10 for every player in each game a la the B+F? -
Hes competing and bringing the ball down to dangerous areas and halving outnumbered contests. His opponent Kolodjashnij is dribbling on him and basically totally focussed on stopping him and not doing anything himself.
-
Max has probably played the best half by a Demon for a very long time.

Not suggesting it should or will happen, but Hunt could be a prime delist and rookie candidate. -

Black was well beaten by Lucas Cook a few weeks ago -
You are aware he is nicknamed Arro and Gancy within the club.

He did a bit round the ground but well was well-held by Lucas Cook up forward. -

Would seem that Newton and Fitzpatrick will be playing as they have not ebeen named for Casey -
Agreed the result wasn't particularly ideal, despite McLean early on playing very good football and beiong just about our best player for a time and Sylvia's career everyone will argue about but we wasn't a bad footballer, but everything has a context and had we not drafted Brock and Col, the alternatives were Farren Ray and Kane Tenace. Pretty much picked the right blokes, was just a poor draft.
-
Gawn was well held by Lucas Cook
-
Well if your rating Jimmy Stynes (in particular) and Garry Lyon as below A-graders then you are a very tough judge. I assume you would trade all high draft picks? And how do you explain that Jaeger O'Meara, Hogan, Crouch and Martin are all set for stardom, notwithstading O'Meara's knee issues.?
-
i rate 10 of the rest at b grade or better the first 25 clearly are b+ at worst, remembering of course that though a dale thomas or marc murphy may have dropped away but they have been a graders or close to for an extended period.
-
Well theres the 25 Riewoldt, Hodge, Judd, Goddard, McVeigh, Cooney, Deledio, Roughead, Griffen, Franklin, Murphy, Thomas, Kennedy (WCE), Pendlebury, Gibbs, Boak, Cotchin, Naitanui, Hill, Hartlett, Hurley, Martin, Cunnington, D.Swallow, Bennell. Just interested in which of them you dont rate above "OK"
-
I dont think you are grading many players fairly, i count 30 at least B-plussers.
-
I wasnt comparing to draft number - the other poster said only 14 of 50 top 5 draft picks were good players, that number is clearly incorrect and misleading. In the context of the expectation Melbourne supporters have for Toumpas based on his draft number, the expectation is rightly high and even more if you draw down and remove key position players from the equation.
-
They all would walk into our side and be in our best 5 or 10 players. Which wouldn't.
-
I find your analysis deceiving. From the 50 from drafts you mentioned came Riewoldt, Hodge, Judd, Goddard, McVeigh, Cooney, Deledio, Roughead, Griffen, Franklin, Murphy, Thomas, Kennedy (WCE), Pendlebury, Gibbs, Boak, Cotchin, Naitanui, Hill, Hartlett, Hurley, Martin, Cunnington, D.Swallow, Bennell. So that is 25 players whop would safely make a big difference to our team and probably at least 15 who would be our best player and close to 10 who are genuine superstars of the competition. Beyond that you are left with Koschitzke, Didak, Ball, Brennan, Walker, Sylvia, McLean, Hansen, Leuenberger, Kreuzer, Masten, Scully, Day, Gaff, Polec. All of whom would walk into our side and be top 5/10 players at their peak and a couple could easily be in the upper echelon above. Leaves us with Polec, X.Clake, Tambling, Ellis, Watts, Ray, Trengove, Morabito, Livingston, McDougall, Walsh, Gumbleton, Morton and Grant. Trengove, X.Clarke, Morabito and Gumbleton have had their careers destroyed by injury. Ellis, Ray, Watts have been useful contributors. Leaves you with Walsh, Morton, Grant, McDougall and Livingston who weren't good enough for AFL and effectively busts. I think Demon fans have a right to expect quality from a top 5 pick. -

I agree hes been disappointing and I would try trade him in all likelihood, my point was more that if the American term bust be used that it be saved for genuine draft busts, Lucas Cook, for example who dont do anything at all.
